If you really want to try this, and have investigated the electric usage, then I suggest you take a free class at Lowes or Home Depot on tile setting. Yes, many people claim you don't need to embed the mesh in thinset, even the sales people at the stores, but when you get the box home and read the instructions, you'll find that is the way to do it. You can't just stick tile or a floor on top. However it will make this one section of floor much higher than the rest which isn't safe either.

About the elastic of the socks cutting in, buy diabetic socks in the pharmacy.

But I cannot recommend enough buying a merino wool rug. Has to be a merino, other fleeces aren't nearly as warm. Much cheaper than buying the smallest section of mesh. http://www.sheepskin-rugs.com/

Socks and slippers don't help, I've gone that rout before, usually what happens is my feet will still freeze and ache, despite heavy wool socks, or the socks will annoy my feet and leave huge squeeze dents in my calves where the elastic of the sock sits.

I have similar problems. Don't wear heavy wool socks, wear two pairs of thinner cotton socks. I wear trainer socks so that they don't cut into my legs.

I have yet to work out why this is effective, but it does seem to be. At least for me.

DomKen, I thought so too and I tried to ask my dr, and she automatically rejected it. She said I am to young to have cirulation problems. Though I may broach it at another time with my new dr.

All though the concrete is a cold bitch to have near your skin, also lol.

It honestly sounds like it might be a problem not so much with the warmth of the floor but in the circulation in your feet.

concrete is certainly a cold media in the wild....it sucks up whatever its given...

and ain't you pre-diabetic?  and somewhat overweight?  I'd fire that goddamn doctor, too young my ass...........

Also......sheepskin slippers. Those fuckers are HOT! I cannot wear them because I have too efficient of an internal heater. I often go barefoot in winter on cold, hard surface floors, in Iowa. But I've known people that swear by their sheepskin slippers.

I have a pair of crocs with the fleecy lining---I wear them OUTSIDE in the winter, but they are good house shoes in the basement. (where I go sometimes, the laundry is there. not like I live there, for those who are keeping track. )

You obviously didn't read where I said socks do no good, they either irritate my feet, cause huge painful dig grooves so I have to take them off , or,  my feet are still bloody cold and I am wearing the socks, and sometimes slippers, and my feet are STILL cold WITH THE SOCKS ON.

Socks don't do jack diddly shit for my cold feet, only heat does.

I'm more to the liking of getting an electric blanket throw and keeping it an a pillow or something soft down there for my feet.

Maybe I can find heated slippers or something.

It's more practical, and instead of being secured to one spot, I can take my throw an my slippers with me all over the house.

Yes. Mn I am.

She just wasn't interested in considering the fact I may have circulation problems, she asked me two questions, did I have restless leg syndrome type events happening and I can't remember the second question, but based on that she dismissed my concern right away.

Thing is, I have good reason to think I do I believe, cause my legs lower/ extremities are always cold, or feel cold to the touch at night, they ache, they hurt, and not in a oh you're fat need to loose weight way because you're stressing them, It's a different quality hurt of oh you're just fat an stressing your body. It's like the bones ache or something, it's deep inside and getting my legs elevated or getting them rubbed only soothes an warms them up while you're rubbing my skin, but stop rubbing my skin an it's back to being cold.

No joke my feet are like ice some nights, an I've been in bed  for hours an the rest of me is warm.

One of the magazines my mom has, they sell diabetic bootie cut socks, and they're very reasonable I'll try this I think, because it's not the wool socks that annoy me, all though they do cause they're baggy, it's the  top of the sock that hugs your leg in normal socks.

The socks are too small/narrow and you are putting them on when your feet are already cold.
You need bigger socks and you need to put them on before your feet get cold.
A suggestion: Get shoes that are one size bigger than you actually wear and that are comfy for your feet. When you get out of bed in the morning, put on your warm comfy socks and then your shoes and leave them on until bedtime.
If your feet sweat, then make sure you get socks that wick moisture away.
A place like Dick's sporting good store would be a good place to go... or a place that sells diabetes supplies. You may actually need two pairs of socks and layer them.
Also, ask your doctor to check your circulation. If your feet/ankles are swelling, you may need a diurectic medication.

You don't put the socks on when your feet are cold. You put them on before.
If the socks make marks they are too tight.

Des, my parents used to have two lovely big white rugs, wasn't sheep skin I don't think, I think it was some other kind of natural fibers, cause I remember as a kid I used to lay there an braid the fibers in the rug,  but it was so soft an nice and lovely, the moths also thought so and ate holes in their rug.

Also, the fibre content in the sock is very important. Most like cotton, poly, etc.....once they get wet, either from sweat or otherwise, lose all ability to keep you warm. I only wear wool during the winter because it does not lose any of it's insulating property if it gets wet.

If you can get a hold of those ugly as sin green wool army socks, they are the BEST. I've stolen GD's from him for years. Since he retired they were beginning to fall apart. Last year for Xmas I asked him to use his contacts and get some for me. He ordered an entire case. I think I have enough ugly green wool army socks to last the rest of my life.......YAY!!!!!!!!

A military surplus store might have them...

Tfb,
Just because she was dismissive one time doesn't mean you can't make an appointment to talk about it.

So, call them and make an appointment.

I may need specialty socks then, cause I wear mens socks, and I get the biggest size I can get from the store shoe size 10-12  and they still dig in if they're normal length  socks, the   I have also worn Daddies socks and his shoe size is a 13 - 14, and those socks are also to tight in the neck of the sock.

, only way I have found to lesson this, is buy the bootie cut, that barely goes over that large bone in your ankle on the side. THOSE don't cut in so deep because they're not so high up on the shins.

My feet get claustrophobic if you will an shoes just eventually drive me insane, and I am dying to take my shoes off, even if they are comfortable, but then  cold aching feet drive me insane too.  So I think it'd be a trade off huh? Would I rather have feet that are ice and hut, or feet that are begging to be free of the shoes cause they like the air and freedom.

Given a choice I'd learn to like shoes lol.

angelika, I have a new doctor too,  and she'll probably just tell me to loose weight, it's her suggestion to all my problems, but I can still insist on being heard, and just keep on insisting if they try to fob it off as " looseweight"

I've had ankle problems since I was  a very small child, an I was skinny my entire life up till I was 16. So I know the ankle problems an shit are not an issue that loosing weight will cure.

Though it certainly will help I won't deny.

Maybe for in the house you could make do with men's sports sandals?
As for socks: these should work well: http://www.bigmen.com/socks/index.html
They come in larger sizes.
