ORIGINAL: joether Thanks to Mass Health (put in place during the Romney Administration in MA), a buddy of mine was able to get through a very serious health issue, when he was unemployed, due to the illness. The state paid for the tests, operation, and hospital stay. joether you seem like a nice guy. But you have no idea of what a Government is supposed to be or what it's responsibilities are. The State did not pay for any of that. Government never does pay for anything. You did. quote:
Thanks to the goverment, I got a college degree. Thanks to the goverment, my uncle started a successful business after getting out of the US Army. Thanks to the US goverment, we have this technology called 'highways' that allow Americans to visit relatives in distance places. And without the goverment, we wouldnt have the best ***-kicking special forces in the world! Without the goverment, we wouldn't have a better fireworks display in Boston, MA, then those folks down in Washington, D.C.!!!! Well here you have a couple things close to right. No matter how you got your degree, the Government did not pay for it. Now as for your Uncle? I assume he got some kind of grant or loan to start a business? Once more the Government did not pay for any of it. Even when a Soldier gets a loan to buy a house, VA Home Loan, that is because one of the benifits for serving our nation by being part of that Kick-Butt group, or any branch of the service, is pay and some types of benifits. Same as any job you have. Now two things the Government is responsible for is maintaning the roads and keeping a standing army for defense of our nation. Though the technology for highways came from the private sector as does all the equipment for the army. quote:
Without goverment, we wouldn't have NASCAR, NASA, and the NSA. Maybe you should, you know....get out more, in to real life. There's alot of stuff that is good, because of the goverment. Its there, when people work together for the benefit of all Americans, not just the upper 2%. There's these buildings in most communities, called 'libraries'. Just go in to one of them, and talk to the people in there. Tell them these exact words "Show me a history book about the Internet". After I stopped laughing about NASCAR, I finally decided to write this reply. NASCAR of course is completely privately owned. NASA could be privately owned but since it is tied so strongly into our National Defense issues, it probably will never be privately owned. NSA? Most people had never heard of them till recently. FBI or CIA sure. Now as for your idea about those sorry no good 2% people, they already pay most of the Taxes. Maybe the problem is not they don't pay their fair share, they already pay a heck of alot more than you do pecentage wise and as for dollar wise, it so far out of your league that it is not even fair to consider it. Maybe the problem is the Government is simply mispending the money it gets? Actually thats just a simple fact. If any corperation in the country was run as badly as the Government runs itself, they would be in jail longer than convicted killers without parole. As for the Internet? If the Government had its way you would not be on it. The original concept was for a secure way to transmit scientific data so we did not fall behind the Soviets again. Only after 1973 when funding was cut to anything not directly defense related did many people start expanding the internet into the private sector. Over time it took off against the Governments wishes. If the Government thought it could, it would close down a great deal of the internet today. So be glad they did not realize how much personal computing would change the face of the net or you would not have access unless you were a scientist working for the DoD. MV
