Poll: Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire

While leaders in Washington remain divided over whether to let the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthiest Americans, as President Obama has proposed, just over half of Americans think it is a good idea, a new CBS News/ New York Times poll shows.

The Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year, and Mr. Obama has strongly urged Congress to extend them for everyone except for Americans making more than $200,000 or households making more than $250,000. Republicans and some moderate Democrats, by contrast, have called for an extension of all the tax cuts.

Nice, factual I would presume and to the point. However it is no revelation, nor is it news by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm having trouble recalling the last time the government did anything to actually benefit the people. Perhaps someone can find an example somewhere. I, however am at a loss to do so.

I'm having trouble understanding why 38% of the population want the top 2%, who have benefited the most by the Bush tax cuts, to continue to reap dividends at their expense.

Thanks to Mass Health (put in place during the Romney Administration in MA), a buddy of mine was able to get through a very serious health issue, when he was unemployed, due to the illness. The state paid for the tests, operation, and hospital stay.

Thanks to the goverment, I got a college degree. Thanks to the goverment, my uncle started a successful business after getting out of the US Army. Thanks to the US goverment, we have this technology called 'highways' that allow Americans to visit relatives in distance places.

And without the goverment, we wouldnt have the best ***-kicking special forces in the world! Without the goverment, we wouldn't have a better fireworks display in Boston, MA, then those folks down in Washington, D.C.!!!!

Without goverment, we wouldn't have NASCAR, NASA, and the NSA.

Maybe you should, you know....get out more, in to real life. There's alot of stuff that is good, because of the goverment. Its there, when people work together for the benefit of all Americans, not just the upper 2%. There's these buildings in most communities, called 'libraries'. Just go in to one of them, and talk to the people in there. Tell them these exact words "Show me a history book about the Internet".

Previous post submitted over the internet, another evil Big Government project largely created by DARPA.  That evil government again, making the tea partiers - who would rather keep passing their information on horseback like good old Paul Revere - miserable.

joether you seem like a nice guy. But you have no idea of what a Government is supposed to be or what it's responsibilities are. The State did not pay for any of that. Government never does pay for anything. You did.

Well here you have a couple things close to right. No matter how you got your degree, the Government did not pay for it. Now as for your Uncle? I assume he got some kind of grant or loan to start a business? Once more the Government did not pay for any of it. Even when a Soldier gets a loan to buy a house, VA Home Loan, that is because one of the benifits for serving our nation by being part of that Kick-Butt group, or any branch of the service, is pay and some types of benifits. Same as any job you have.

Now two things the Government is responsible for is maintaning the roads and keeping a standing army for defense of our nation. Though the technology for highways came from the private sector as does all the equipment for the army.

After I stopped laughing about NASCAR, I finally decided to write this reply. NASCAR of course is completely privately owned. NASA could be privately owned but since it is tied so strongly into our National Defense issues, it probably will never be privately owned. NSA? Most people had never heard of them till recently. FBI or CIA sure.

Now as for your idea about those sorry no good 2% people, they already pay most of the Taxes. Maybe the problem is not they don't pay their fair share, they already pay a heck of alot more than you do pecentage wise and as for dollar wise, it so far out of your league that it is not even fair to consider it. Maybe the problem is the Government is simply mispending the money it gets? Actually thats just a simple fact. If any corperation in the country was run as badly as the Government runs itself, they would be in jail longer than convicted killers without parole.

As for the Internet? If the Government had its way you would not be on it. The original concept was for a secure way to transmit scientific data so we did not fall behind the Soviets again. Only after 1973 when funding was cut to anything not directly defense related did many people start expanding the internet into the private sector. Over time it took off against the Governments wishes. If the Government thought it could, it would close down a great deal of the internet today. So be glad they did not realize how much personal computing would change the face of the net or you would not have access unless you were a scientist working for the DoD.

Sanity -> RE: Poll: Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire (9/16/2010 4:54:17 AM)

Leftist zombie mantra for years has held that no one got tax cuts EXCEPT FOR the rich, now Obama wants Bushs tax cuts for everyone to continue except for the wealthy?

How are these things reconciled. Do leftists just hope that people forget the old propaganda?

Sanity -> RE: Poll? Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire? (9/16/2010 5:04:31 AM)

CBS is a far left organization, here are some polling results from a more reliable source:

quote:

AP-GfK Poll: Nearly half oppose tax cuts for rich

WASHINGTON — A new poll shows that almost half the country opposes tax increases for the richest Americans, indicating that congressional Democrats are taking some risk by backing President Barack Obama's plan to boost levies on the wealthy.

So what we are hearing from the far left loons once again is propaganda instead of facts.

Sanity -> RE: Poll? Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire? (9/16/2010 5:27:58 AM)

Hmm. What does the real writing on the wall reveal... [;)]

quote:

More House Democrats call for tax cuts for all

WASHINGTON – More Democrats joined Republicans on Wednesday in calling for the preservation of tax breaks for Americans of every income level, bolting this election season from President Barack Obama's plan to preserve cuts for families who earn less than $250,000 and let taxes rise for the wealthiest Americans...

Nervous Democrats are among those with concerns about the president's plan. "We should not be raising taxes in the middle of a recession," Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., who's facing tough odds in his bid for a fourth term, wrote in a terse letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"It is essential that we keep things as they are in the short term," said Rep. Travis W. Childers, D-Miss., another conservative incumbent in a tight race, whose district, like Marshall's, voted for Republican John McCain in the 2008 presidential race.

The real writing on the wall reveals that these news and blog polls are good for pud pounding, but not so much else, if they are accurate, it is after the fact and that by serendipity.

This far left loon is far from rich too, so honestly?  Maybe we should break out the tiny little violins for the wealthiest in this nation and cry them a river, eh?  Just for the record, Obama's income is among those who will be affected by the tax cuts expiring.

As far as raising everyone's taxes, I think that will eventually come.  First I think a balance has to be restored and the middle class re-established.  Right now it seems you're either filthy rich or pathetically broke.  But if we don't raise taxes how else are we going to pay for everything the "tax-payers" pay for?

Class warfare is penis envy, for socialists.

And mob rule is no way to run a nation.

You've been talking in nothing but soundbites ITT. Particularly moronic soundbites.

Huge deficit: cut taxes.

Good luck with that.

Sanity -> RE: Poll? Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire? (9/16/2010 5:54:19 AM)

In a recession the wise thing to do would be to cut spending rather than spend more (as per the Obama plan).

Remember how Obama bragged that his health scare plan would save us money?

Hes now admitting that was a lie:

Government spending is out of control, and it has been for generations.

Why is a person who makes 249k more entitled to keep their own money than a person who makes 251k?

percentage wise they were given a larger share in the break, so their reduction should come some years down the road.

edited because what I took out is now not at issue (friends helping friends make their best argument and all that.)

Yes, I do remember that.....I brought up the same point in another thread and was told that I'd misunderstood the Dem propaganda......but that isn't anything to do with this thread, and this:

"In a recession the wise thing to do would be to cut spending rather than spend more."

Is fucking retarded.

You clearly do not know shit about macro economics, yet you spout off stupid things you've presumably heard somewhere as if they were fact. Would you go into a thread asking for mechanics advice and start giving instructions on how to fix an engine? (this thing falls down if you've ever been a mechanic of course, but ya get my point).

"Government spending is out of control, and it has been for generations."

US government spending is....tricky, at a federal level it's much lower than other developed nations.....but you also have a lot of state level stuff, and I don't know what that adds up to....obviously it'd vary from state to state. Perhaps it would be a good idea to just scrap every fed thing but the general governance embassies, whitehouse, etc stuff...and the military, and leave everything else to the states. But I don't see you or these tea guys suggesting that......I see you lot going on about a balanced budget while proposing policies which are (retarded and) the exact opposite of helping to balance the budget.

Yeah, as per usual, I audited your cite, and nowhere in there does Obama say he was lying.   Could you perhaps point it out for me?

I am having a little trouble with your visions thing.

Youre a retarded little cockroach. My turds have forgotten more about macroeconomics than you will ever know in your entire life, bug.

When youre broke and times are bad spend less, its as simple as that.

Macro, micro, its all the same,

Now scurry back to the shit filled sewer from whence you emerged.
