quote:

TARP was supported by the president – who, at the time, was George W. Bush, a Republican. While Connolly and the other soon-to-be lawmakers targeted by the NRCC were busy campaigning, certain incumbent lawmakers like House GOP leader John Boehner were making emotional appeals to get TARP passed.

Boehner, Sept. 29: These are the votes that separate the men from the boys and the girls from the women. …These are the kind of votes that we have to look into our soul. And understand and ask ourselves the question: What is in the best interest of the country. I believe what’s in the best interest of our country as I stand here today is to vote for this bill.

Now, who was saying the GOP did not vote for TARP?

luckydawg -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/19/2010 6:39:34 PM)

Jilf, just post the party breakdown of the Vote.

No one has said no Republicans voted for TARP.

It has been pointed out that Bush Proposed it and got it through the Dem controlled Congress with a coalition that was mostly democrat.

If you have any sorts of facts to dispute that, plase post them.

Vote totals....

Not isolated quotes with your own BOLDING emphasis.

jlf1961 -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/19/2010 6:42:00 PM)

Might I point out, Dawg, that Boehner has sense come out as being OPPOSED to TARP, after his impassioned plea to drum up votes for it.

I stand corrected, the vote by the GOP was split.

Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008
As for the votes, which dawg wants posted, in the house, Democratic yea 172 nay 63
Republican yea 91 nay108

The Senate Vote was 74 yea, 21 Nay.

And the whole thing was introduced by George Bush, a Republican.

However, the fact remains that the Party Leadership at the time, both in the Senate and the House were pushing for the act to pass. They have sense gone on record saying they were against the bill.

Kinda proves the hypocrite point concerning the vote.

Now care to answer the million dollar question?

How can someone vote FOR something and be against it?

luckydawg -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/19/2010 6:51:55 PM)

You can if you think that is your best tactical derail jilf.

Though it is consession to everyone that you were wrong.

Because they voted for it when their party was in power, but know in their hearts that the second the other lot come to power that if they should keep doing the same thing, then it automatically becomes a great evil that must be opposed. That partisan thing American politics are big on, dig?

I already did post that, but you tend to ignore everything and everyone that doesn't agree with you.

Seventy-four Senators voted for the bill,  forty democrats, thirty-three Republicans, and one Independent.

Hardly a Democratic coalition.

JLF,...."I voted for it before I voted against it!"

Who said that?

tazzygirl -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/20/2010 11:55:59 AM)

Kerry. I love trivia. But just because he was a democrat doesnt mean every democrat voted for him,

This is typical of some of the slow minded here.

Jilf edited his comment and added the numbers, after I called him on it.

After!!!

Now Jilf, acknowledged and pointed out that he was adding the numbers in an edit.

No foul there, though it smacks of dishonesty. PLus it confuses the slower posters. It would be better to make a new post with the numbers.

Though I must point out that the numbers agree with me.

And the majority of democratics in a democrat congress voted for it.

While a majority of Republicans in a democrat controlled congress, voted against it.

Its the very definition of a Democratic Coalition.

Bill written by Dems, Passed with a majority of Dems voting for it, and a majority of the Aye votes were Dem.

But you can pretend otherwise if you like.

jlf1961 -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/20/2010 4:30:43 PM)

What Dawg doesnt want to admit is that in the Senate, the vote was split, he also does not want to admit that Republicans that voted for the bill are now claiming to be against it, INCLUDING John Boehner.

But it is okay for them to make the claim they were against something when they voted for it.

luckydawg -> RE: Dems to voters, "You may hate us but GOP is worse." (9/20/2010 4:35:25 PM)

The vote was split?

Of course I admit that. never saidIi didn't in any way.

Do you take stupid pills or something?

It was a majority of dems voting for.

Majority of Reps voting against.

I have no comment on Bohner at all.

Its like your 4th derail. It is such a weak tactic, really kind of pathetic.....
