Greetings....

I wonder how many people know which two future presidents of the US worked for and with McCarthy? <grins> There were a number of people on the lists which actually named names who swore they were not Communists or Communist sympathizers who thirty years later came out and said that of course they were. Zero Mostel come to mind as one of those who did that.

Regretfully, both sides on issues like this have too many people who follow the party lie without doing any checking for themselves. The truth is much more interesting in most cases.

Be well....

Malkinius

It has nothing to do with political sides.

It has to do with a paranoid, power-hungry alcoholic who ruined the lives of a lot of innocent people.

Proofiness is another unfortunate American neologism nobody in the UK would dream of using.
("Poofiness" is an abstract noun mined from the adverb "poofy", which is Limey for "gay". The spectacle of Americans -who can often seem a little homophobic- using a very similar sounding term as a positive thing is pretty funny...)

Besides, EVERYONE knows McCarthy never existed, that the hearings were filmed on a grassy knoll on the dark side of the moon where the government hides the UFOs and the ray guns used to melt the twin towers.

It's the same place they balance the budget and grow the economy by cutting revenue and increasing spending by giving money to pet industries instead of putting people on the government payroll.

Oswald thought it up, acting alone, by checking Nancy's astrologer and listening to his magic bullet.

NY Times book review

How bullshit numbers are used to sell, for instance, the Bush tax cuts, and other dishonest uses. There's an excellent example of McCarthy and his completely made up list of 205 communists in the government.

I have GOT to read this book.

Since the bulk of McCarthy's "completely made up list" has since been verified by other sources, you might want to rethink whether the book is worth the trees it killed.

Bullshit.

To start with he never made a list of names public so there is absolutely no way to say that the bulk of the names on it were spies. He wasn't even consistent with the number that was supposedly on the list. He made at least 3 seperate claims (in the speech, to reporters the next day and a much smaller number in the letter to Truman soon after) all with a different number of names claimed to be on the list.

His later list of communists in the Army was conclusively proven to not exist.

Right. As any fule no, Kennedy was actually assassinated by somebody who tried to shoot the pope last week, but the bullet went back in time because it bounced off a satellite and reached a significant fraction of the speed of light. Which means, of course, that Kennedy was killed by a muslim...
