I don't understand why everyone is trying to twist this word away from it's definition. cuck·old n. A man married to an unfaithful wife. tr.v. cuck·old·ed, cuck·old·ing, cuck·olds To make a cuckold of. Word History: The allusion to the cuckoo on which the word cuckold is based may not be appreciated by those unfamiliar with the nesting habits of certain varieties of this bird. The female of some Old World cuckoos lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, leaving them to be cared for by the resident nesters. This parasitic tendency has given the female bird a figurative reputation for unfaithfulness as well. Hence in Old French we find the word cucuault, composed of cocu, “cuckoo, cuckold,” and the pejorative suffix -ald and used to designate a husband whose wife has wandered afield like the female cuckoo. The definition speaks NOTHING to whether or not the husband knows, cares, wants, desires, participates, is bothered by, takes action against, joins in, or gives a flying shit. These are all variables that are simply added into a specific person's preferred method of cuckoldry. Those variables hold no value on whether or not the act in itself meets the definition of cuckoldry. If the wife is fucking someone else, it IS cuckoldry, regardless of all other variables. By definition, Hot Wifery is a form of cuckolding. Adultery on the part of the woman is a form of cuckolding. Wife swapping is a form of cuckolding. Swinging is a form of cuckolding. The male talking her into it is a form of cuckoldry. Her doing it on her own is a form of cuckoldry. Any time a wife is unfaithful to her husband, it is cuckoldry. Whether or not one wants to place their own personal preferences into the equation, does not change the definition of the word, or the act.

IMO, IMHO, YMMV, AFAIK, to me, I see it as, from my perspective, it's been my experience, I only speak for myself, (and all other disclaimers here).
