hertz,

I wasn't trying to belittle, but seriously interested.

We are all guilty of confirmation bias in our thinking, and how we interpret what we see.

Obviously, I see it on both sides of the political spectrum, but it seems to me (confirmation bias, perhaps), that something that would cause a moral outrage from the "left" if done by the "right" gets nary a whimper of attention when something this egregious is done for the advancement of a "lefty" meme.

Apologies for my response - I misunderstood.

In the interests of moving the debate forward on an evidenced footing, can you provide a recentish example of this, please?

I think we need a new forum on CM where we can explore and discuss the confirmation bias fetish and all those who are confirmation biased can gather and share.

Don't we already have that safely embedded in all the forums? Actually, damn it - maybe that was your point...

Sure:

The lack of mass progressive protests and outrage over the Patriot Act.

The lack of mass progressive protests and outrage over the non-closure of Gitmo.

The lack of mass progressive protests and outrage over the false accusations of racists remarks directed to some members of the Black Caucus.

I'm sure that other posters can name many, many more.

Caveat: Do not confuse "all" with "some" or even "many".  Some progressives have complained about all of the above.  The majority are silent.

Compare and contrast to the actions of progressives during the tenure of GW Bush, on many of the exact same subjects.

I see what you mean. It sounds like you might well have a very strong argument. All the areas you mention are basically unchanged from the Bush era, when there was much outrage and upset, and yet the protest now does seem, well, 'muted', at least...
