Boy, this is nothing new. Back is '78, if you were working in the scenery shop, you had to clean it at the end of the day. Usually that meant at least 2 people were using push brooms. I had classmates who had no idea how to use a push broom. When I was a kid, we'd use a push broom in my grandmother's garage for fun. (What can ya say, it was a novelty, like roller skating in her garage. At the time we lived in the country.) We also tried to get the old-school water pump going. It had a dried out seal so you had to pump the living shit out of it to get it primed. I think we were mowing the lawns (ours and the old folks lawn across the road as part of the rent) around age 9 or 10, and were working in the garden around age 7. Nonetheless, I paid to have someone take care of the lawn when I lived in NY. (this could easily evolve into "The Four Yorkshiremen")

I think that this is all just over-rated. I am reminded of those tests that get forwarded through Internet mail. A different skill set for a generation does not make someone an idiot. A 15-year old may not know how to pop out ice from a tray, but they do know where to get the information for doing it. Not coming across something before does not make him a moron. How many of us go to the ice house and dig the ice out of sawdust? Frankly I am much more concerned about the lack of literacy than I am about then and now skill sets.

I think it would be fun to reconstruct a sawdust ice storage shed. It would be perfect for power outages in the summer!

Okay, since Im of the generation of apparent nincompoops... How many of you that can use that wonderful little ice cube tray and that can opener thing magiggy, Can wire your house completely on a home network set up wireless encryption that runs well on several different operating systems that only allow one type of encryption or another....... or type at 90 words or more a minute while having your head turned? How many of you knew how to tie your shoes the first time you EVER put them on and had to tie them. Sure we have push buttons to get ice in most freezers, and we have easy pop tops on most cans and crys sarcastically they didnt....it doesnt make us stupid.... Each generation adapts to the technology at hand, Sure our smart phones make it easy for us to access google and do that awesomeness google does. But someone still has to load those webpages and those domains on google..... is that YOUR generation thats doing that or us nincompoops? Oh thats right, those poor kids who cant pop ice out of ice trays and didnt know to not put a special piece of metal in the dishwasher, will be the people netting millions of dollars a year.. The person who invented facebook didnt know how to use a can opener.... hes worth over 2 BILLION dollars...... Why because its not necessary to know how to pop out ice, its a dead skill set, 9/10 fridges have push buttons to make ice,

Yep, this hit close to home in more ways than one. I hate what technology is doing to people around us and particularly the young ones. But it's not just the young. I mean, ask yourself, does ANYONE know how to set up a time and place to meet today without making twenty calls and sending thirty texts? GPS units make map reading an ancient art. It's gonna suck is theres some sort of natural disaster or third world war that obliterates the religion of tech and everyone has to go back to the manual way.

I work in an area that relies mainly on computers to do our job. We have all these cool bells and whistles...you should hear the bitching, whining and complaining that goes on when the system is being taken out of service for upgrades. And heaven forbid that it crashes! I can remember doing my job when you used run cards and hand written, yes, hand written, radio logs. Things have changed alot, there is too much reliance on the technology.....very few people can read one of those street map books anymore....the ones where you have to turn pages to map out a complete route.....let alone a plain old map. And Rosa, yep, I do know how to set meetings up! One call or IM or e-mail, and it's done. I hate my cell, it's a necessary evil, so I have it. Half the time, the battery's dead, the othe half I have no idea where it is and have to call it just to locate it. Another quick story.....the first foray into the Internet for me was done on a Web-TV unit.....my son came over after I got it, he had homework to do, and couldn't get on to a computer at school. I was showing him how to work it, and he's looking all around the TV stand for something. I asked him what he was looking for, he replied "where is the printer?" I handed him his notebook and pen and said "right here! This is how we did it in the Stone Age!" He rolled his eyes and whined "Mooo-ooom!" And I don't think kids are any dumber than adults are...trust me, after having dealt with the public for 20 years in my job, and hearing the absolutely moronic questions I get from ADULTS, I often wonder how a lot of people function in their every day life. Kids today are just a product of a high tech environment.

I go on my smart phone, and i look up my fridges owners manual, and I fix why it didnt give me ice..... The point is stupid people tend to not be able to be sucessful in life because they are stupid. People who dont know how to use a can opener can net millions of dollars, because their intelligence lies somewhere other... then using a can opener.... Second..... Cast Iron skillets are made differently they are called cast iron because a) the way they are cast (seriously and Im the stupid generation) b) the metal quality/content. and C) how they are washed. ( by the way is Just fucking GRODIE......) So Yes Cast Iron anything is much different then the pan you bought at walmart. there for "special" and finally Our generation uses technology, yes your generation or some very smart members of your generation might have made, but many of your generation cant grasp.... I should put out the lecture of the lack of intelligence of the older generations every time im asked to defrag a hard drive, or program a remote, or change the cartridge in the printer because they cant seem to grasp something THAT SIMPLE I mean you click a few buttons, If you grasped the can opener... why is clicking a few buttons SO hard? the point is, You can do shit I cant.... I can do shit you cant.... instead of degrading OUR generation for your "special skill knowledge that we dont seem to have" realize we have knowledge you dont, and we think that your just as stupid for not knowing how to defrag your hard drive or install a printer.

How they are washed has nothing to do with how they are made. Wallyworld sells cast iron. Once properly seasoned, it outperforms teflon. People have been using cast iron for centuries. Nothing "special" about it. I don't know what "grodie" means. Seriously, I thought you knew how to look all this shit up. Seriously.
