Here you go Republicans, one of your best and brightest in action.

I wonder how well it is going to sit with those struggling financially to be told they are being forced to accept food stamps?

Gingrich brands Democrats 'party of food stamps

MINNEAPOLIS – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is advising Republican candidates on November's ballots to frame the choice for voters between Democrats as "the party of food stamps" while selling the GOP as "the party of paychecks."

With a month to go before the election, Gingrich brought his branding effort to Minnesota on Wednesday. He raised money for Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Emmer and the state GOP during a private fundraiser.

He told reporters later that Republicans can campaign as the party of opportunity.

"Most Americans would like to get a paycheck," Gingrich said. "Most Americans would not like to be forced to have food stamps handed out by liberal Democrats."

The only problem is that the GOP has become a party of "Ship jobs overseas so that loyal GOP voters now need food stamps"

ORLY? Who signed NAFTA? How does it benefit an economy to overpay for domestic goods and services?

As to who signed NAFTA:

quote:

Following diplomatic negotiations dating back to 1986 between the three nations, the leaders met in San Antonio, Texas, on December 17, 1992, to sign NAFTA. U.S. President George H. W. Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexican President Carlos Salinas, each responsible for spearheading and promoting the agreement, ceremonially signed it. The agreement then needed to be ratified by each nation's legislative or parliamentary branch.

Now I am sure you conservatives are going to say it was Clinton, or some other democrat, but the facts are that it was signed by President Bush in 92.

So, if NAFTA is so bad as the Repubs are saying it is, why wont they admit to who in the hell signed the fucking treaty and quit trying to blame the democrats.

Sad.  The GOP is bankrupt of ideas, so they denigrate the Dems instead of trying to find solutions.

The Dems have no really good ideas, so they try bad ones and blame the GOP.

The GOP's panacea is to cut taxes and expect a strong economy to appear magically.  While ballooning the deficit.

The Dems' answer is to spend like crazy and expect a strong economy to appear magically.  While ballooning the deficit.

JLF, "ceremoniously signing it" isn't *signing it into law* like Clinton did. They can "ceremoniously sign" anything they wanted to but that doesn't make it law. What, they sat around a table with a ouija board or something?

The Demos are the party of the "99 week unemployment checks."
"It's the Economy, stupid!"

Who says its bad? And if you know the history of the legislation you know damn well it was pushed by the Dems. One of the few business related things they did right.

The key word is "ceremonially" signed the bill. Bill Clinton actually signed it into law in Sept of 1993 and it was ratified by Congress that was controlled by democrats.

Most Americans would like to get a paycheck," Gingrich said. "Most Americans would not like to be forced to have food stamps handed out by liberal Democrats

I think it will resonate with people who have been raised better than those who figure welfare is an entitlement way of life, and want the economy to get better so they can go back to work.

But Newt ain't my guy, RML.

For your own sake, STFU when you dont know what your talking about. From Clinton's autobiography:

"November offered two examples of sound policy and questionable politics. After Al Gore plainly bested Ross Perot in a heavily watched TV debate in NAFTA, it passed the House, 234-200. Three days later the Senate followed suit, 61-38. Al and I had called or seen two hundred members of Congress, and the cabinet had made nine hundred calls. President Carter also helped, calling members of Congress all day long for a week. We also had to make deals on a wide range of issues; the lobbying effort for NAFTA looked even more like sausage making than the budget fight had. Our whole team had won a great economic and political victory for America, but like the budget, it came at a high price, dividing our party in Congress and infuriating many of our strongest supporters in the labor movement. "

Well, no, Rich.  You have a brain.  There are many better people to choose from than Gingrich.  He's a has-been with no ethics and a mean streak.

IS there anyone actually slow enough to not notice that Lucy changed her terms.

No one said GHW was not involved in NAFTA.

Some are trying to pretend it was all GHW/Republicans. They are lying.

Jilf for example says,

"Now I am sure you conservatives are going to say it was Clinton, or some other democrat, but the facts are that it was signed by President Bush in 92.

So, if NAFTA is so bad as the Repubs are saying it is, why wont they admit to who in the hell signed the fucking treaty and quit trying to blame the democrats. "

Which is clearly and factually false. So deserved to be corrected.

The center of both the Republican and the democrat parties supported NAFTA, while the fringe end of both parties opposed it.

INMHO NAFTA is not the problem with our economy, and things would be worse without it.

They are already the party of food stamps. And it won't ( hope and change ) anytime soon.

"The number of Americans receiving food stamps reached 39.68 million in February 2010, the highest number since the program began in 1962.[4] As of June 2009, the average monthly benefit was $133.12 per person.[5] As of late November 2009, one in eight Americans and one in four children[6] are using food stamps and the program rate is growing at 20,000 people a day.[7] Recipients must have at least near-poverty incomes to qualify for benefits.[8]"
Rounding to simplify, 40 million people get an average of $133 a month x 12 = approx %64billion. 1/4 OF THOSE ARE KIDS.

Meanwhile, Corporate Welfare is about $170 billion a year
Ya gotta dig for it, rightards

And that DOESN'T INCLUDE tax abatements (which end up being covered by property owners) or other indirect subsidies of "Capitalist" corporations.

KILL THE KIDS FOR CORPORATIONS! You sick soulless motherfuckers. Die.

You're certainly doing a lot better out of it than Canada or Mexico are. I'd be interested to know how Wilbur thinks you're being diddled for the cheap lumber and electricity you're getting from the Canucks, for a start...

Bush wasn't president in 92, but don't let a little fact like that get in the way of your rant against the right. If you and owner don't keep the hate alive, who will?
