i was told by a friend that she had heard a rumor that if you get a tat that shares your name with a man name it will cause you to break apart. Has any one ever heard of this myth that by putting your lovers--boyfriends-masters-doms name on your body then in a few months or whenever he will leave you. thank you for any information on this rumor.

i tattoo as a hobby, and yes i've heard this myth. In fact, after inking a guy's name onto a woman, i witnessed the two break up that very afternoon.
Like Greedy said, it's all about the people. For good or bad, getting someone's name tattoo'd on you shows that they've made a mark on your life.

That said, i think if two people have bought a house together, had some kids, and know in their hearts that they want to be together the rest of their lives, having or not having a tattoo won't be a factor in that.

I have a friend who felt safe having his wife's name tattooed on him after 29 years of marriage. They were divorced before their 30th.

My personal opinion is that it is unwise to have names tattooed unless they are your parents, children, or grandchildren.

My dad had a tat of a young woman in a sailors cap when he entered the military. After he married my mom, he tatooed her name beneath the picture.

They are still together, still going strong.

never heard the myth, but I would personally never tattoo anyones name on me unless they were passed away. I have tats and one is my fathers name. Nor would I ask someone to tattoo my name on themselves.

I've heard this myth, I place it in the category of the "Band Photos" myth, which states that if a band has promotional photos taken, the band breaks up about 6 mos later. Even quicker if they're pro photos and the band has to pay for them.

Superstition abounds, but I'd say there might be something to it, psychologically. A tattoo is pretty permanent, and it's definitely a lot easier to get one than to get rid of one. This might be the heart of the myth. People can feel subtly "trapped" by anything which remotely suggests permanence.
They get the tat, then bail.

I remember when I was married, my ex husband and I were going to get tats which were sort of conceptually interlaced. I was very reluctant to do so. And now I'm very,very glad that didn't happen. In my case mythology had less to do with it than insight.

I saw an ad on craigslist where a woman was looking only to date men named Bob. I figured that she had a tattoo...

The general intelligent rule regarding tattoos is don't get anything that isn't forever or where your feelings toward it aren't forever. Your kids are forever. Your parents are forever. Your pets are forever. Sadly, interpersonal relationships are not and more often than not, the feelings associated with them aren't either. So, names are generally a bad tattoo idea.

Injecting ink under your skin does not impact your relationships. However, your relationships could impact how you feel about the ink you injected under your skin. Given how often relationships change and end, the rumor isn't surprising. But it is just a rumor.

I've heard the myth and while I don't usually believe in myths I've seen this one happen more times than I can count...plus I think name tats are just plain ole tacky.

People break up a lot. But that happens with or without a tattoo. Nothing causal there, just the fact that you shouldn't put someone's name on you if you've only been together a short while. Wait till after the seven year itch is gone.

That is kinda of hard to believe. If i got a tottoo Master and i would have problems because he expressely ordered me NOT to get one. I don't think just getting one woud cause a break up. Maybe there were problems before the tattoo and the tattoo was maybe a way to shore up a bad situation. Sounds like an urban legend to me.

i had 3 friends who got their guys name tatooed 3 months later all had to get cover up tatoos. everyone that i know who has done this has split. my then parter got mad cause i didnt get his name tattoed like the others but we split up anyway.

I wouldn't call it a myth. I'd call it a supersititution. And, quickly frankly, it's one we both hold with.

Neither Val or I will tattoo each other's name or symbols on onto our bodies. We love each other, we wear our wedding bands. This how we see it: Why the fuck tempt Fate? The bitch causes enough trouble as it is!

It's superstitious, yes, but I got a tattoo of two gold, intertwined wedding bands put on my left shoulder in January of 2003. Four months later, we were signing our separation papers. I went back to my tattoo artist several months after meeting DB, and had her change the wedding rings into handcuffs. When my ex happened to see it one day, he asked why I had it changed. I told him that he made marriage feel like a life sentence, so..... yanno, it seemed fitting. (That's the story I tell the nillas, but it was actually to memorialize my new beginning into this new life with DB.)

I have two large tattoos, one is a really big asian dragon on my back and another dragon on my shoulder but I would never get a tattoo of a person on me unless it was a memorial of someone that had passed, that is what the first large dragon was for my Papa because he always "had my back" but I would never do it for a romantic relationship, I was with my ex-husband for 22 years and I wouldn't even do it for him. He put on on himself for me that had the date of our wedding and I am willing to be he wishes he didn't. The other dragon on my shoulder is for my ex-husband's mom, he was Korean and when she passed I did it for her, it is a duplicate of a dragon statue she brought here when she came fro Korea that she had and loved, and I loved her.

I don't know if there is a curse or not, but I just don't want something that I would ever regret in any event and no matter how much in love I am, things do change. Call me cynical, but when I get ink, it's going to stay for life, and I don't want to have to change it if we break up.

I've heard the myth and owned more than one slave I had to have other people's names removed from. I just refuse to fuck someone while staring at another man's property mark. There may be something to the myth eh?

Names can be hard. The names I have on my body are of my deceased pets. I have my Master's initials on me but they also stand for something else to me too so I am covered either way and the tattoo that his initials are attached to no one would guess those initials are for him per say.
