I'm late, I'm late for
A very important date.
No time to say hello, good-bye,
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late
I'm late and when I wave,
I lose the time I save.
My fuzzy ears and whiskers
Took me too mych time to shave.
I run and then I hop, hop, hop,
I wish that I could fly.
There's danger if I dare to
Stop and here's a reason why:
I'm over-due, I'm in a rabbit stew.
Can't even say good-bye,
hello, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late.

(Alice In Wonderland - I'm Late Lyrics)

The billboard’s tagline, “Vote DemocRAT–Join the game,” is littered with every conceivable meme that has been leveled at President Barack Obama as four iterations of the President–as Muslim/Terrorist, Nazi/Fascist and gangster, Communist/open borders supporter, and a supporter of gay rights–play cards, ostensibly “gamble” with the Statue of Liberty, a figure of blindfolded Justice, the Holy Bible, an American soldier, Uncle Sam, and a bald eagle. As they play, grinning vultures bearing the labels “$oro$” and a blue U.N. helmet look on, while several rats lurk from below, variously labeled “trial lawyer,” “IRS,” “EPA,” and “FED.”

So, what is the problem?  Have we canceled freedom of speech?

I do believe that this is legal.  Just like the Ground Zero Mosque.  Or portraying former President Bush as a chimpanzee or Hitler and a movie showing his assassination.

You were not outraged then.  Why now?

No, I'm enjoying myself reading all the lefty hand wringing, whining too much.

You do seem to be awfully excited by it.

Are you sure you're not doing some hand-wringing of your own?

Ummmmmm BULLSHIT, the movie was not made by an American, nor made in,  nor fully released (it was a "limited" release) in the United States.  Since when do we concern ourselves with a foreign made film??? While it is against the law in this nation to make such a film, it obviously is not in Britain.  Oh and BTW there was some considerable disgust from both sides of the political spectrum over this in 2006.

Care to play Double Jeopardy, where the scores can really change?

From the Washingtion Post:
LONDON, Sept. 1 -- Nearly every British newspaper on Friday carried photos of the "assassination" of President Bush -- or, rather, the eerily realistic depiction of it from a new documentary-style television film that is causing an uproar in Britain. The film, "Death of a President," has been alternatively derided as a tasteless publicity grab and defended as a serious look at a plausible event that could have dramatic ramifications for the world.

Ummm. . . no.  It is not against the law to make or show such a film, write or read such a book, make a cartoon or comic or picture of such.  Actually planning or plotting such is illegal but requires two witnesses for prosecution.

LMAO after 8 years of what bush did to your country and its citizens , you are not enraged, I wonder why....
After two years  of a black president, and this is the level of discourse.
I WOULD explain in depth from a non american point of view, but then it would be a waste of breath.
Im so sorry you dont understand.

It's a cartoon. Lighten up. With the mid-terms closing in, it seems that the left has lost it's sense of humor.

Have you lost your fucking mind, Lucy? The level of discourse is way up over the last few years of the Bush II administration. Need me to post the link to an American TV reporter calling the President of the United States a monkey during a live national broadcast? I can Google it up in a few seconds if you like.

Enraged?  Not so much.  It is a political billboard.  The only reason that I found the story interesting is because of WHERE the billboard is.

As far as the level of discourse goes. . . you do realize that this is nothing new, right?  This kind of thing has been going on since before Guttenberg.

From your comments it seems that you are only upset because it was President Obama being portrayed.  Had it been former President Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, or Cleveland, you would have been fine with it.  And that is very telling.

I also find your race comment very telling.  Skin color is very important to you.  I wonder why this is.

Lucylastic -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/14/2010 6:57:30 PM)

heheheh I meant about this particular president.
After sending people to die in wars both  the armed forces and civillians over a fucking LIE, you dont get the difference between hatred for what Bush Co did and the constant   hate since before day one of this president? because he is ........omyfuck BLACK,and unqualified and has the balls to be democrat(he is not a liberal or a socialist or a marxist)
Doesnt surprise me.

Lucylastic -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/14/2010 7:04:22 PM)

oooooooh such lovely assumptions dear  lady...
hahahhahah I dislike racism, I despise it, but it isnt because I have skin of colour.
interesting that you should imply that tho

TheHeretic -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/14/2010 9:22:46 PM)

The US going into Afghanistan was based on a lie, Lucy?

Yes. We get it. Bush was evil, so "whatever' is just okely-dokely, but Pres. Obama's heart is true (well, not really - see the subject and quotes from him on a thread with a similar name), so anybody who thought he was wrong for the job, anybody who thinks his approach in office is wrong, must just be a racist. Does "shove it" translate roughly the same on your side of the water?

Need me to post how Sean Hannity derisively and constantly refers to Obama as "the anointed one"?

Oh what the hell, why not?

Kurtz calls out Hannity for his 'deceptive' editing of Obama's ...

But don't let me interrupt your conservative paranoia.

I know how much you folks like to play the victim.

Lucylastic -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/15/2010 4:36:07 AM)

Rich, I believe all war is based on lies, but  I should have made myself clearer I meant Iraq more specifically. Granted.
However, you are projecting assuming and putting words in my mouth about my own opinion ..not very clever. I obviously touched a nerve, but thats fine, its not often you give yourself away.
Now I gave several options  and you picked on racist. I can see why you might I dont think everyone is racist if they disagree with him. If I think you are a racist, I will call you one. I never have and never will, but on that note are you denying much of the hatred IS racist?? seriously?
You are way to bloody intelligent to fall for the "promises" made by politicians, so your attempt to stir shit is more than noticeable. I applaud your comments to people who call him oscumbag etc etc, however denial just puts you back on the "smart but lost" pile.
As I m on the same land mass as you, I know exactly what it means... ..you first...........BOHICA.

BoredAsHell -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/15/2010 4:57:13 AM)

a lousy administration is a lousy administration, democrat or republican, white or black. i couldn't care less about race, i do care about my country being run into the ground. i'm thinking this particular president pretty much takes the cake from all the things i've been hearing from the people in my neighborhood. my sister in law was a rabid obama supporter, now she'd personally like to be there to hold the door open for him when he's voted out of office. she went so far as to change her party affiliation she's that mad. there are alot of factors that add in to whether or not history regards one president as great or not, it will be interesting to see what the books say about this president in 20 years.

I meant to get back to this sooner, Lucy, but life happens while we are making other plans.

Yes. I am going to deny that "much" of the anger and opposition comes from a root of racism. If unemployment was in a steady trend of decline, I think we would be looking at a very different sort of situation on Nov. 2. Does race play for a role for people who care about race. Of course. Do racists like him? I guess that depends on which flavor of racist we are talking about.

In fact, if we want to talk about responses growing from race-based attitudes, why not ask how many of those expressing "strong support" in the polls are cutting him slack because he is black?

ps
Sorry. I always think you are in England for some reason.

Aylee -> RE: How low can they go part 2 (10/17/2010 6:50:18 PM)

Well, Lucy, you are right.  It was not near as hysterical as the death threats phoned into to the property owners of the bill board and others.

The bill board has now been taken down.

Once again Freedom of Speech has been suppressed because of threats and fear of violence from those on the left.

Maybe we can now have an "Everybody draw a caricature of Obama Day!"

I think anyone in the public eye is a valid target for satirists, humorists, comedians and artists. I think it is a wonderful sign of equality when all are subject to the same level of derision. If you cannot take it, then perhaps a public office is not the choice for you. (I use 'you' in the general sense here, not in reference to any single individual.)
