She isn't saying that to you..She's saying from my take..Mind your own business we aren't enemies..In her usual nice way.

Hopefully you realize that people use words and phrases like that as a creative way to say they don't agree with it..I've seen it many times on this forum and others as well.

It's not the phrase I have an issue with, it's the sentiment. I've been using the word 'imagine' for consistency with his choice of words and for dramatic value, you know that [8D]

When I was fairly new to the forums Nihilus said to me that he thought a lack of pictures showed an unwillingness to engage. That stuck with me. What I object to is the OP trying to legitimise a refusal to engage by saying that a career is a good enough reason not to post a photo-the fact is that if you want to engage then you come up with a photo that doesn't compromise your privacy.

Just saying don't be so sure that's what he's saying..I think he's been fairly nice and has just been making some observations about what he's seen and wanted to talk about it.

Sure, he's been nice (except to Red, but I guess you could say Red started it [8D]). I'm not saying he should be hung, drawn and quartered, I'm saying I think his reasoning is invalid.

You think he'd have bothered making this post at all if it had occurred to him that he could just post a non-identifying photo and have done with it? I don't.

Well that I do agree with..Much like many discussions that go on  as well.

Sure but either choice for either reason is legitimate though..I can understand why some people wouldn't want a photo because of work just as I can understand why some don't mind.

Well there we disagree. I can understand why people wouldn't want a headshot because of work, sure, but that's not a good enough reason not to have a picture at all IMO. What, your colleagues will be able to pick out your torso on a kink site? The curve of your upper lip? You as a teeeeeeny tiny figure next to a waterfall? Didn't think so.

I value artistic skills. I value an interest in photography, composition, light. I value lolcatz, humour, a well-constructed joke. I don't value a 'sorry I can't post a basic photo because of work and I can't be bothered to come up with more than a basic photo' attitude.

Actually..it is possible..I wouldn't suggest that everybody could do this but I did and have before done things like that.

We had a thing at church when I was younger where we had all of the women get behind a curtain. You couldn't see anything..Not even silhouettes and each man that was attached to those females had to pick out their loved one with only a nose showing.

I was able to do that. So it can be done [8D] Forgot to mention the amount of wimmens..There were 30 I had to pick lisa out of with just her nose lol

I will agree though that some and maybe even a lot use that as an excuse for one reason or another. I don't think I'm pretty..I'm too lazy to take a picture and load it up..I don't know anything about computers...I'm afraid of everything under the sun and then some..I work for a top-secret government agency that uses face and body recognition software to do internet scans for dirt on them.....I could go on and on. There are some though I would think have legitimate worries.

The government line was a joke..I sure hope they don't! (Where's my tin hat..)[:D]

Icarys -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 10:41:05 AM)

I must take off for now..Although I do have tons of energy...I don't have enough time at the moment.[:D]

VaguelyCurious -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 11:20:26 AM)

Lol-sorry I disappeared, I had to put a roast in the oven [8D]

(That is not a euphemism...)

I would point out that you had to pick out your *loved one*, not Joe from across the office.

Also, if that story is true, you're kinda freaky. Either that or she had a distinctive nose (just sayin' [8D])

If you're suggesting that both of our noses stood out from our bodies by my saying that..You'd be dead-wrong on both issues.

Granted..I knew her well and maybe I am a freak..I have trouble putting names to faces but I remember very well to this day even the smallest details about her as well as other people I've never been "intimately" connected with. I don't think that's so odd nor do I suspect that there aren't others that can do the same..Including people they work with.

I am not total sure this is true or not but there's someone local to me that I could have sworn looked just like someone at a court house when I went for my business license and she only had a torso shot..We walked past each other in the hall and I thought damn she looks familiar...When I got to the end of the hall..I turned and she was bent over drinking from the fountain starring at me..She had what looked like the same dress on as she did in the picture...When she got done and made it to the end of the hall she turned and looked again. I think she recognized me from the site.. If she hadn't been wearing that same dress then I might not have thought anything.

I never said anything of course..She was at work and it would have been in bad taste.

Nor would I have contacted her on the site with that info either...if she was trying to be all incognito..I may have upset her. I figured if she had wanted to say something she would have.

Back to work...[:D]

switch2please -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 12:04:43 PM)

I have to agree with VC - it is absolutely possible, but it takes some creativity.
For example, look at mine: you can see my body without it being explicit, it is slightly out of focus to be more discrete, and hopefully it communicates some kind of interest in artsy-fartsy pursuits which I very much enjoy. It is a good representation of me. I have to thank the ex who took this photo, but the choice to use it, instead of something easy to recognize or something absolutely irrelevant, is mine. He could recognize it...but then again, he already knows I'm kinky... [;)]Actually I think I'm more likely to be recognized from the text in my profile than this photo...and no one reads those things anyway, right?

sweetsub1957 -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 1:38:02 PM)

~FR~
I guess I got here kinda late. There's already four pages. But I've written to plenty of people who don't have any pictures on their profiles. Also I've written to those with identifying and/or non-identifying pictures. After a few letters, I do expect them to send me a face pic privately if they don't have one on their profile, but I think that's reasonable. Myself, I have multiple non-identifying pics on mine. My profession has rules against "moral turpitude" and we all know a lot of folks don't approve of WIITWD. I for one don't want to find out if my employers or patients' families do, because I could easily end up unemployed if they don't. Also, I happen to know for a fact that there are guys in my apartment building (who would recognize a face pic of me) that frequent this site and Fet, and my personal life is none of their business. If someone wants to see a face pic of me, I'm more than happy to send one privately.

The one's I find interesting are the one's who do not have a picture on their profile but then expect you to have a picture on your profile.

No no no. For example there's this:

but when I saw it (some months ago now) I thought "They are too cute-looking -- they must be fake"[8D] I would need a "kneel bitch" cat.

tewy01 -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 2:46:19 PM)

I don't answer profiles or send messages to profiles without a pic posted. Some pics are professional and that tells me they are fakes/scammers and I don't even deal with them.

switch2please -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 2:56:48 PM)

Not all professional pics are fakes.
I have a few modeling pics that I don't post (discretion, ya know) but they are both professional, and yours truly.
Besides, I'm accused of being 'fake' often enough as it is...maybe they know something I don't? [sm=couch.gif]

Nnytheangel -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 2:59:28 PM)

I wouldn't make any assumptions based on a picture. I've been on the internet far too long to assume even a full series of photos are real or fake. I try and take all of them as..pictures. About the only time a person becomes real to me is when we meet face to face.

rubyrain -> RE: The issue of pictures in profiles (10/16/2010 3:06:56 PM)

Pictures don't mean anything. PHOTOSHOP plus you can steal pics from anywhere and pass them off. Now if they can use complete sentences and fill out their profile... that's saying something. I know some feel that it is a waste of time and they only get asked for money so they don't want to take the time... well then they don't want to truly take the time to get to know someone either. Fill out the profile.
