No. No more quelling. Let Iran be.

"Afghanistan will revert to type within 3 years of the pull-out, and Iraq will taken maybe another 3 years after that, tops."

Iraq will be 3 years after the Iraq pull out, or 3 years after the Afghan pull out? Can't help but disagree with you at least about Iraq. There's no real reason Iraq can't be stable....it's just a question of whether it's more an Iran or an Egypt.....I reckon if Taliban & co did 'win' Afghan the eager'd be more likely to head for Somalia than Iraq.

The first Queen Elizabeth class carrier won't be completed until 2015 (plus how ever long it takes to fit the catapults and arresting gear). The F-35C's being bought to fly off it are due in 2016.

It seems likely that the first F-35C's will be arriving in the UK just as the Queen Elizabeth finishes her shakedown cruise.

I would not count the US puppet government as legit, so thats how I come up with 8 years.

Ah, well that measure kinda dents the whole 'record breaking' nature of it.

Like that's going to happen. The second you lot are out of there, the Iranians will walk in and take over. The way the current government are behaving, they'll probably be invited in.

The Kenyan's going to be well pleased about the defence cuts, I suspect. None are being made that'll interfere with us supplying him with expendable cannon fodder to fight his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ya, and while they're at it the Pakis will invite the Indians in to squash the tribal areas, and us Brits are bound to get a letter from the French begging us to rule them and end the fuel shortage....

Turns out I was in fact almost completely right after all...

October 2010 - Ark Royal, the last of the current carriers in service to be mothballed with immediate effect. HMS Ocean, the helicopter carrier, will also be mothballed - the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious will be brought back as a helicopter carrier.

2014
- Crew of Illustrious transfer to new super carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth for sea trials and Illustrious will be decommissioned. HMS Ocean will be brought back into service.

2016 - HMS Queen Elizabeth brought into service as a helicopter carrier and HMS Ocean decommissioned.

2017 - HMS Ocean crew transferred to new super carrier HMS Prince of Wales for sea trials

2019 - HMS Prince of Wales launched as a helicopter carrier and HMS Queen Elizabeth mothballed after four years and never carrying a strike fighter

2020 - HMS Prince of Wales becomes an aircraft carrier with a scaled-down cheaper version of the new joint strike fighters. Its catapult launch system design will also be adapted to allow US and French strike fighters to be launched from it.

One of the two aircraft carriers will most likely never see an actual aircraft - not that there's much time for it to do so because it will be decommissioned after 4 years. £6bn for 4 years. Look out for bargain unused aircraft carrier on EBay.

I also heard there might be as many as 12 (yes, 12) lovely basic model F35s to go on the last of the two carriers (the 'keeper'). By all accounts they are going to be fitted with supermarket RF tags to make sure they don't get misplaced when they are parked up on the Prince Of Wales.

I feel safer already.

The slightly worrying thing is that you probably believe that.

Oh wow. You can't read either. That's going to make it hard for you to keep up with the adults.

Shame.

I am....quite surprised....you're still sticking to your guns after the posts made in this thread Hertz. Agree to disagree doesn't really seem to fit in such a situation....

Do you really think Labour would not have had to make cuts ? If yes, would you be happy to pay the tax needed to fund their spending, currenctly costing £120 million a day in interest alone ?

The bunch who were at war with Iran was the sect Hussein was a member of. You know, the lot the Americans wiped out who were at war with the Iranians? The shi'ites are keeping the insurgency going now that Hussein's foot has been removed from their throat...

This isnt quite true Moonhead. The Iraqi Shia now control the Government, after being installed by the Americans. They can hardly be insurgents and government at the same time can they......except they can and have been. The new Iraqi police force were known to co-operate with the allies by day and the insurgents by night. Bremer royally screwed up when he kicked all the Baath party members from the government. Many of these didnt support Saddam, but joining the party was the only way they could get good jobs ( Much like joining new labour in the late 90s..lol )

Try and catch "Secret Iraq" I think it was on 4OD or BBC iplayer. The episode about the insurgents is a bit of an eye opener to the lies being dished out to the press.

I'm sure Labour would have needed to make cuts. Hopefully, though, they would have forgone the ideological attack on the state and included some measures to help encourage the wealthy to pay their fair share as well. If they were really sensible (and they are not) they would have scrapped Trident, and started looking for someone to buy a second-hand carrier (with no aircraft).

I seem to be in the minority on tax though. I'm more than happy to contribute to the community I live in through taxation. Does that make me a Swede?

What a character. Hertz did the same to me which resulted in quite a few of my posts being deleted a few weeks ago.
