In which we can consider the firing of a man for- I lack a better, more accurate term- politically incorrect clothing.

The case of the sweatshirted stagehand.

mnottertail -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 2:09:16 PM)

same as you would do, and have done on slimmer evidence.

but its breitbart tv so its asswipe in any case.

As a long time producer of video and film projects.

Fuck the stagehands and the union.  They are all a pain in the ass.

slvemike4u -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 2:49:52 PM)

Perhaps he was fired/dissmissed for refusing to acede to a reasonable request.....turning his sweatshirt inside out.Though it  was actually a sweatshirt for the USS Bush,that fact would not have been apparent at a distance....something I am sure he was aware of when he chose to wear it on the way to work that morning...knowing as he had to that he would be working in setting up for an Obama rally.
A confrontational asshole who succeeded in his attempt to provoke an incident...shame on him for using his son's service in this partisan manner.

A pretty fair example of the dissonance that is liberalism; I will forward it to Dr Rossiter for possible inclusion in a future work.
A perfect example of liberal love for free speech, too.
You are a fine representative of your kind.

Breitbart story. Video must be assumed edited to distort or hide the facts.

That's what I was thinking.

Source is not exactly the pillar of truth.

Are you actually putting forth a theory that an employer asking an employee to turn a shirt inside out is a violation of free speech?
Please do not trivialize such an essential right.

truckinslave -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 6:18:51 PM)

You are saying that firing a man for wearing a t-shirt with the name of an unpopular President on it isn't a violation of 1st Amendment rights.
And I agree. But...shame on him for using his son's service in this partisan manner... is just snarky.
You know that our servicemen believe in freedom, right?
Which means they voted overwhelmingly both for Bush and against 0bama0, right?

slvemike4u -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 6:20:38 PM)

This is a contrived issue....and you are doing your part to promote it,So suprises here.

I doubt you'll look at the link since it is the Huffington post, but if you do you might want to rethink that OVERWHELMINGLY IN FAVOR OF RHETORIC.  The writers results are interesting to say the least.

truckinslave -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 6:47:07 PM)

I looked at it. Didn't mean too much to me. It doesn't/can't separate out the votes of actual service members but instead looks only at the votes of the broader communities....
Also, of course, when soldiers are deployed to cambat many families leave those communities. Young wives move back to hometowns to have help with children, etc etc.

Seven of the 15 communities studied were in the deep south and presumably had both large Afro-American populations and huge black turnout.
Of the other 8, one was "insufficient data", two showed an increased Republican vote, one showed a D pickup of less than the national average, two were from the two arguably bluest states in the country......

The data is reaaalllly, professionally, cherrypicked, and doesn't even measure military votes.

Typical HuffnBlow spin, imo.

So now you don't believe employers have the right to fire people at will? You some kinda Commonist or sumptin?

Jeffff -> RE: You're Fired. Revisited. (10/22/2010 6:51:06 PM)

Typical bull shit from someone who claims to have fired people for how they voted.

But you don't see that do you.

LOL,after a certain point some of these right wingers sort of blend together.....what a singular case of chutzpah we have here heh....brag about firing someone for exercizing their franchise.....and bitch about a man being asked to turn his sweatshirt inside out.
Brass balls award.

Really? And here I thought I've several times supported their right to fire the guy. I just wondered if those who condemned me for firing 0bama0 would condemn people who fired Bush supporters.

Well, that's not exactly right. I didn't really wonder. I knew very few libs are capable of that kind of consistency and intellectual honesty. A belief in liberalism requires a certain lack of intellectual vigor/honesty.

IIRC you fired someone for the way they voted? When they were off the clock?

I think employers absolutely have the right to regulate a dress code for employees while on the clock. I think that what employees do in private off the clock (ie voting) should not affect their job, and I think that what employees do in public off the clock is situationally dependent.
