Seems many employers are willing to drop their health care coverage under obama care.

Says that the employers will have to give employees raises to cover the missing benefit, but I have never heard that requirement in the law.   This is a right to work state.  You don't necessarily deserve a raise because you lose a benefit.   It's the law.

Dont you think this is alarmist?

KenDckey -> RE: Employers looking at health insurance options (10/24/2010 5:12:30 PM)

Some people see the new health care system as being alarmist   (least that is the way I hear it from real people)   Personally, I don't care if it is alarmist or not.   IF it is factual that some employers are looking at it, then reality may outweigh alarmism.   But, who knows.   Maybe the WHOLE world may accept it someday and that there will be no desinters or it might be illegal to desent or something

If it is, I hope it is not contagious.  Lost two VIP plans last week within a couple of hours each other.  Regular plans stayed, but I only work VIP plans so I admit that I am alarmed.

I definitely would not count on a raise to cover lost benefits at my organization.  Performance bonuses have been completely phased out over the past few years except for the sales team and any time someone mentions the yearly cuts to health benefits in a site meeting we are strongly reminded that they are benefits and we are lucky to have them at all.  Consumer-driven health plans is their name for it but "taxpayer-subsidized insurance" is definitely their vision as a company.  They believe that since "the industrial revolution is over," job-based coverage should be obsolete.

The article said "could even afford to give workers a raise...," not that they had to by law.  I do agree with the article that it will be an erosion of benefits and not a wake up to all company-based coverage disappearing overnight.

I think the reform is a mistake.

I think parts of it will be struck down.

I am actually interested to see which employers don't go this way...I am wondering if unions will be able to hold out against it or not.  I do not belong to a union anymore, but at my job I always feel pride in those that make it part of their contract that their claims/phone calls cannot go out of the country.  I'm not against globalization, just some American pride (and thanks) happening while I do my job.

ETA:  I do know the idea and groundwork for phasing out of company-based coverage began before President Obama.  Its been discussed in meetings since I joined my company seven years ago.

they goofed.   RX pushers need to be made 501c.

as long as it is for profit-  then that pie will be expected.

I worked for Nynex....great company, great benifits....curious thing ,for as long as I can remember, and a contributing factor to every strike I went thru ,was the companys attempt to have us contribute via payroll deductions to our medical plans. We naturaly resisted this loss of a negotiated benifit
Now this was for the last 30 yrs....do You suppose Nynex was anticipating ObamaCare ?

Thank you for being honest. The phase out of benefits and the lowering of health care coverage by companies has been an ongoing situation. Not something that all of the sudden happened this year.

My friend went for shots in her back.   They cost over 6k each visit.

The hilarious part is that companies SHOULD drop their health care and save the money. If it would make them feel better to do this as a way to get to single payer than just going ahead with single payer as a plan then ok.........We can back into National Health Care....

Sometimes i just adore waiting for that moment when someone other than myself realizes exactly what is happening!

there is no provision mandating a raise to cover the benefit. However, you will find as more and more companies do drop their health care (nobody wants to be first, but there are millions of employees employed by companies willing to be second to drop their coverage), that many will replace some or all of that compensation just to remain competitive in the labor market.

The fun will start when people that are dropped realize how much more Obamacare will cost them than the wages that replace employer coverage.

We will go to single payer. The people on Wall Street and Corporate Boardrooms are too prideful to admit that they are totally wrong. Going to single payer is going to save them a pantload.

Yup, and cost Americans a pantload in the form of higher premiums and reduced standards of care.
