the threat of SDI was instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet Union...Reagan was a master at playing the bluff card...would have rendered the Soviet Missle arsenal useless....sobering to say the least and not at all impossible....

Not really. When even bloody science fiction writers are dismissing something as a pathetic joke, it's unlikely to be very seriously by anybody else. The bluff card was all Reagan had, and the Soviets were hip to that by the time Andropov was sworn in, never mind by '89.

Companies outsourced to get away from the lawyers, greedy politicians, unions, and regulations that prevented them from profitability.... its what companies do...they are responsible to their stockholders first and foremost.... its simple....

We only have your word for that, and given the bullshit you talk in here, that's very hard to take seriously.

So why weren't they fleeing the country in droves when that Democratic liberal Carter was wrecking the economy, then? Why did they wait for Reagan?

GM imploded on Union Retirement obligations and a non competitive workforce...let em go down into the failed land of union failures worldwide... we don't owe those workers anything...they wanted it that way...and they got it....too bad...so sad...fuck GM.... who cares who goes down with them....

We didn't bail out the workers. Even with all the mismanagement at GM, they were the least expensive element in all this.

We bailed out the financial speculators who gambled on GM's corporate prosperity. That is where the BIG losses for the taxpayer were to be had. We were facing those losses because private sector AIG was an irresponsible bookie and took on way too many unregulated bets without the cash to back up their bookie operations.

Instead of buying up those GM bets as "toxic assets" (like we did with the mortgage securities), we simply used taxpayer pocket change to fortify the company and avoid the bets (insurance) from being triggered. It was the cheaper path.

This is the reality of our economy going forward, where everything is tied to gambling done by unregulated Wall St elites.. This is why the economy on Main St never recovers.

Sure--quadruple the debt again, we'll get this economy moving!

In 8 years, Ronnie turned the largest creditor nation in the world into the largest debtor nation in the world.

See, I think that's a bad thing...

Regan could not control a democrat congress, and rebuilt our military that languished under the peanut idiot from Georgia... but created 22 million new PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS.... and his tax cuts actually INCREASED REVENUE to the government...a FACT that democrats refuse to accept...but a FACT nevertheless.... Reagan was the greatest president in my lifetime and that is now acknowledged by the majority of those that lived thru that time.... not like this piece of shit we are currently enduring.... this jerk has TRIPLED the biggest debt in history... no one is even close to this idiot....

tazzygirl -> RE: What is the Republican plan? (10/25/2010 9:01:09 PM)

Obama has not tripled the debt.

Learn to read.

It’s true that deficits have grown under Obama, but not even close to as much as Hensarling claimed. The simple fact is that Obama inherited a federal deficit of $1.2 trillion on the day he was sworn in last year. Barely two weeks earlier, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued its regular "Budget and Economic Outlook" document, stating:

CBO, Jan. 2009: The federal fiscal situation in 2009 will be dramatically worse than it was in 2008. Under the assumption that current laws and policies remain in place (that is, not accounting for any new legislation), CBO estimates that the deficit this year will total $1.2 trillion, more than two and a half times the size of last year’s.

That $1.2 trillion projected deficit — the result of bills signed by Republican President George W. Bush — grew substantially after Obama signed his stimulus bill and submitted his own budget. But even so, by the time the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, the actual deficit was $1.4 trillion, CBO said.

Musicmystery -> RE: What is the Republican plan? (10/25/2010 9:02:21 PM)

Reagan didn't HAVE a Democratic Congress--I've shown you that multiple times. He had a mixed Congress.

Bush II doubled the debt.

When Obama took office:
$10,699,804,864,612.13

To triple that, we'd have to be at $30 trillion.

This story that two or three other posters who can produce evidence that they've served think is horseshit you keep coming out with?
