Man was fired for wearing a USS George HW Bush Hat and Sweatshirt which his son is assigned on.

KenDckey -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 1:26:33 AM)

Have the unions gotten so powerful that they can now terminate someone because of what their son does?   Are we back in the 60's?

Charles6682 -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 1:35:52 AM)

I'll be fair here.I bash conservative's when they do stupid act's.Well, this is a liberal stupid act.The Union's at one time actually stood for something. It's because of Union's that we have worker's right's on the job. However, the Union's these day's seem to only care about themselve's and to hell with the rest of the people. This is a pathetic example of a Union having too much power.Firing someone because of a hat and a sweatshirt. This is why there is an anti-union additude in America right now.I can't say I blame them either.

????

You can't be fired by your union.

That's management's call.

You don't work for the union. This, is fact, is something for which he should file a grievance.

Not buying it, video or no.

KenDckey -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 1:46:16 AM)

When I was h ired by a union shop in Cali I was given a choice   be in the union or be unemployed.   That is because management was limited by their contract    If you are thrown out of the union you are fired.

Musicmystery -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 2:05:11 AM)

Not in a right to work state.

Anyway, you don't get "thrown out of a union." Especially since your dues presumably come out of your check.

Moonhead -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 2:31:53 AM)

That's interesting. I didn't know you still had closed shop jobs where joining the union was compulsory in the 'States.

Yes, we do. In fact when my youngest got a job at Meier, they made her join a union. Not sure why the union was needed for a min wage stock job, but they had no problems taking out part of her pay for dues.

KenDckey -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 6:27:57 AM)

Even tho I have been a union steward I am not pro union.   I only became a steward because the union sent me a letter saying I had no right to speak at a general membership meeting.   It pissed me off so I went to my very first meeting.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 7:13:37 AM)

Its company that has dress rules not the union

pahunkboy -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 7:39:49 AM)

Unions are now an agent of Satan.

Notice that GOVERNMENT workers are UNION.

Think jimmy Hoffa.   That was the turning point.

The CEO of NPR(someone Schiller) apologized to NPR staff for the manner in which she fired JW, but she said he had been clearly warned several times about other comments he made.

They talked about that on NPR today.

Said- he had a a series of mis-steps.    and they errored by not talking to him in private first.

Moonhead -> RE: Fired by union for supporting son (10/25/2010 9:01:56 AM)

Talking to people in private probably doesn't come naturally to talking head broadcasters.
