If he were coughing, would it be the reason there is so much disease on the planet?

Hello G,

Don't be silly.  There are a lot of people who are interested in in-depth analysis of a particular thing.  I mean, look at all the different people who can quote particular books or who do re-enactments of some ridiculous war or who spend all their time pumping iron and can tell you the differences in nautilus machines versus free weights.  This geeky guy is into a video game.  WoW has created a huge community where shy people, introverted people are able to *and in fact required to* interact more.  And where was that kid?  He was at a convention, interacting with like minded folks, talking with people who were creating the thing he has a hobby in, AND he challenged the inventors. That is no small feat for a young person to do.  Kudos to him!

Nothing wrong with understanding the underpinnings of something you're interested in.  He's a kid.  LIfe is hard when you don't "fit in" with the cool crowd.  I say good for that guy!

best,
sunshine

Have to agree - the kids shy and socially inept (or appears to be) but he had the balls to stand up and say his thing, he deserves some credit for that, not to be ridiculed more - which I suspect he has already had his fair share of.

Lucylastic -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/29/2010 6:26:51 PM)

I have to admit, I would rather see a kid who is passionate about something, even a computer gamethan see dead eyed kids on a street corner looking to score a fight, dope, and or bored out of their skulls

LadyPact -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/29/2010 6:31:58 PM)

Have you ever watched these kids play WOW?  Some of them are pretty awesome.  Little hint.  Don't run battlegrounds right after school gets out.  They'll kick your tail.  [8D]

The kid's not on drugs, committing crimes, and certainly doesn't seem to be a trouble maker.  While he might be very thorough in his knowledge of the game, I don't see why that's a bad thing.

Big MUAH!!!!!

ShaharThorne -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/29/2010 8:17:40 PM)

Hey, the kid is just knowledgeable about a game.  I am just up there with my crocheting.  If I am not doing something with my hands, they tend to get a bit shaky.  Just don't ask me to do the dishes (mom rags me on that..)

Hell, I just finally got my closet arranged.  I will be working on a ladybug afghan in the morning.  Tonight, I got a game going on (Runescape, a hell of a lot cheaper than WoW).

Catch you on the other side...

DesFIP -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/29/2010 8:21:22 PM)

He's got a hell of a career doing continuity in some form of media if he stays this observant.
I wouldn't be surprised if they don't offer him a job when he finishes school. Game designers, like tv and movie directors, need people who are this detail oriented. Because you don't want your product infamous for stupid mistakes.

Oh and I don't think it's fair to call him socially inept because he's nervous about public speaking. Lots of people are.

DomMeinCT -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/29/2010 9:14:48 PM)

This is not exactly indicative of a nation falling like the Roman Empire.

Everyone has their "thing".....meanwhile, you're here posting on a BDSM message board. That's not exactly adding to the GNP or solving world hunger either, is it? [;)]

SPIT00N -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (10/30/2010 1:47:20 AM)

Surely it's MasterG2kTR who needs to get a life.

No, that's not my opinion but would surely be the opinion of as many people who share his opinion of this kid upon seeing MasterG2kTR on this site.

Would also be their opinion of me and anyone else on this site.

Some of us are just too busy looking at others and judging them to consider how ridiculous we look to others ourselves on the same scale.

Friend speaks my mind.

What the hell is wrong with knowing all the ins and outs of something you love? When people love something, they like to talk about it and they like to know about it. What the frick does it matter if it's a computer game or cake baking or sewing or knitting or history or ANYTHING.

The kid has a life. As long as he is happy with it, more power to him.

I know this is an old thread, but I only recently learned what happened next, and it made my heart kind of burst with pride at the "Red Shirt Guy". Not only did the makers fix the mistake, but they created a character in the game as an honoring of the fellow who spoke up about the error. Good on them! I'm really impressed with how they handled this mix up with such grace and decency. It makes me actually want to check the game out.

Here's an article about it. The pertinent info is:

"The Developers responded they will fix this. Barely two weeks after BlizzCon 2010, the developers replaced Kurdran with Falstad Wildhammer in beta patch 13245. In addition, as a nod to this loyal Warcraft lore fan, the developers added a new NPC to the left of Falstad Wildhammer at the Ironforge throne room. The NPC is tagged as Wildhammer Fact Checker and wears a red shirt. A reference to the now famous Red Shirt Guy."

Nifty! Go GEEKS!

littlewonder -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (4/19/2012 12:01:09 AM)

He'll be the kid who will be programming all your computer gear so I'd say he probably has a life more than most.

What she said. As I'm working with kids where some of them committed disgusting crimes before they reached the age where they are legally responsible for their actions (which is 14 here) I'd wish they would "tick" in such a way[:o] That would actually give them a much better chance of a good future than the way they are ticking at the moment...

ResidentSadist -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (4/19/2012 1:10:01 AM)

LMAO.. that's the "red shirt guy".
He's famous in the gaming world, so famous, the game maker put a likeness of him in the game. Fans paid homage to the red shirt guy in this video which shows him a slightly different light . . . it shows him in the light his fans see him for what he did to fix the game:
Blizzcon 2010 - Red Shirt Guy Auto-tune Tribute!!!!!

Blizzard (the game maker) paid homage to him by creating the "Wildhammer fact checker" (picture / wiki) who now accompanies the returned dwarf Falstad Wildhammer (wiki). BTW, the "Wildhammer fact checker" wears a red shirt.

The red shirt guy returned to the 2011 Blizzcon and was welcomed by game designers with a hug. He thanked them for putting a likeness of him in the game: The Red Shirt Guy - Blizzcon 2011

The red shirt guys sounds extra nerdy because he has aspergers as explained in the video: The Red Shirt Guy Speaks Out!

So this kid may be a nerd but I don't think he needs to get a life. He has quite a life, millions of views and fans on Youtube, 14,000 pages on the web and international press exposure paying tribute to him.

Personally I am glad he spoke up and the game maker corrected their mistake putting the missing dwarf back in the game. Falstad Wildhammer is an important quest giver in the game who is linked to a lot of the lore. It is something any gamer who has leveled more than once in the game would notice. Imagine that someone you normally go for quests suddenly disappears? wouldn't you think WFT?

So to the red shirt guy, here is yet one more page on the web that at least in my part, pays homage to you. Thank you for overcoming your nervousness, casting aside your ego and aspergers be damned, speaking up about a mistake made by the designers of the worlds largest online video game. You go boy!

Marc2b -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (4/20/2012 12:41:59 PM)

I'm with MasterG2kTR on this one. Why is that kid wasting his time on such nonsense when there are far more important issues in the world to deal with? Like... wasn't it kind of incestuous when Lee and Kara banged each other? Yeah, I know they weren't really brother and sister but Kara had developed a sort of father/daughter relationship with Lee's father so that kind, like, made them brother and sister. I dunno, it just kind of creeped me out.

SexyLilFannie -> RE: This Kid Needs To GET A LIFE!!! (4/25/2012 7:43:20 AM)

How many times do you think that poor kid was told to "get a life" while he was in school??? Its the geeks, the losers, the ones that get wedgies from the asshole jocks that end up being CEOs, and game designers and have kick ass jobs like that where the jocks that made the winning touch down end up being Al Bundy and a poor misserable shoe salesman. I'm happy for this kid!! I'm not intelligent enough to make video games, but some day, he might. And I will be greatful since I love to play them. Way to go kid. Don't give in to people like this that say "get a life!" and then hand you a joint or a beer. Don't give in to peer pressure!! Haha

I know. I get off topic. Lmao sue me
