http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/10/gop_paycheck_politicking_gives.html

The owner of a franchise in Canton, Ohio enclosed a handbill in employees' paychecks that threatened lower wages and benefits if Republicans don't win on Tuesday.

"As the election season is here we wanted you to know which candidates will help our business grow in the future," reads the letter. "As you know, the better our business does it enables us to invest in our people and our restaurants. If the right people are elected we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above our present levels. If others are elected, we will not. As always, who you vote for is completely your personal decision and many factors go into your decision."

The note ends with a list of candidates McDonald's believes "will help our business move forward." It names Republicans John Kasich for governor, Rob Portman for Senate, and Jim Renacci for Congress. With the letter was a biography of Renacci.

To be fair, Macdonalds didnt do this and the hap has apologised, but seriously, can this election season get any more ridicuous???

So if Dems get elected, then jobs at McDonalds are in danger?  If fast food jobs are on the line, the economy is in terrible shape.

You want ridiculous????  Try this on for size:

From the Wall Street Journal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303341904575576192201885522.html

Ballot Initiative 300 would require the city [of Denver] to set up an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission, to "ensure the health, safety and cultural awareness of Denver residents" when it comes to future contact "with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles."

And here's the real problem.... most are checking "YES" just to see what will happen.... :::SIGH:::

I have had a couple of employers on both sides, try and get us to vote one way or another. I just ignored them. If they want to give me their opinion on an upcoming election that is fine, as long as they can't follow me into the booths, why would I care.

The owner should be looking at criminal charges. This definitely violates Ohio election law.

I don't see how that can possibly be true.
You don't see even a teensy weensy 1st Amendment conflict if handing out leaflets and saying certain candidates are good for business is illegal?

If this was illegal then every union official in the country should be in jail. This thread is ridiculous. You better fucking believe that if the GOP doesnt take control of the House the economy will tank even further and jobs, including fast food jobs, will be in jepardy.

So yes, it is definitely illegal.

Something about having recieved said electioneering along with one's paycheck might/perhaps/could be construed as undue influence/pressure on the employee.
Of course one would need to be an idiot not to see that.

Of course one would need to be an idiot to think such speculation trumps the First Amendment.

The idea that this is untoward, much less illegal, is ridiculous.

Really? The economy is tanking right now?

All the reports I'm seeing is the economy is getting better (leading & trailing indicators). May not be at 'light speed' as you demand, Mr. 'Instant Gratification-olic', but the economy is improving. Fast food jobs, like many other low paying wages, are not in jeopardy right now. If they were, this economy would be in a depression!

Maybe you just want the economy to stay bad, willbeurdaddy?
