Fox isn't reporting too much different than what MM said.

Actually, the lame duck Congress is our only hope of getting anything done for the next two years.

Republicans only want to prevent Democrats from accomplishing anything, including areas where they typically agree.
And Democrats are terrified they might somehow offend a voter by taking a stand on some of these issues.

Actually, I'd point out that having a government where nothing gets passed unless 85% of the voters want it isn't all bad.

Worked out pretty good during Clinton, for example.

The economy's been getting better for a year.  Gridlock is certainly unlikely to change that.

From the Pledge to America:

An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Rising joblessness, crushing debt, and a polarizing political environment are fraying the bonds among our people and blurring our sense of national purpose.

Like free peoples of the past, our citizens refuse to accommodate a government that believes it can replace the will of the people with its own. The American people are speaking out, demanding that we realign our country’s compass with its founding principles and apply those principles to solve our common problems for the common good.

So, they are pledging to enact these things.  They have a short time.  They will be watched.

I've read the Pledge.  (Well, at least major portions of it.)  Have you?

I see a whole bunch of grandiose claims and broad political spin.  (Like the portion you just quoted), but very few actual, measurable, proposals.

Just to pick out the one that stands out in my mind, how do you feel about their pledge to use the power of the federal government to override the state's existing authority to regulate health insurance, and to replace it with a system where the states will compete against each other to see which state can write the laws which most favor the insurance industry, and those laws will then apply to the entire country?

And their pledge to pass legislation stating that if these company's decisions harm or kill you, that they are immune from being harmed in any meaningful way?

Conservatives don't like solutions.

They like slogans.

They like using problems as justification for seizing power, then using the power to push their actual objectives.

mnottertail -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/1/2010 3:14:23 PM)

The fact that I know it exists and that I can post excerpts from it would indicate that I may have read at least a sentence or two.

Regarding your other paragraphs.......It ain't in the pledge I read on the republican site.  Bullshit is bullshit, no matter whos excrementing same. It would cause them total unelectability to say something that stupid, it might be something that a nutsucker said, but that doesn't mean nothing, nutsuckers are not going to pull off anything.

Say that Angle wins Nevada, thats gonna be too bad for Nevada, because they lose all the pork barrel from Reid, and she will be frozen out, period.

This is a gross misstatement of the GOP proposals, which simply allow but do not require that states form insurance compacts with other states that clarify which laws will apply to non-domiciled policies.

Actually, Ron brings up a very good point.  This is a sure guarantee to fix all our ills.  That's at least, according to the claims on the right...right??.  Let's see.  And let's see who will be big enough say what we're seeing..other than the left, that is!! [8D]

Dont know what he said, since he's blocked, so I'll assume you were being sarcastic that he brought up a good point.

rofl... typical

Louve00 -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/1/2010 3:36:00 PM)

Well, since you blocked him, I wouldn't want to be the cause of him trickling into your world.  I found it valid, though.  But, I wasn't being sarcastic about his logic.  Just found it amusing (and now curious to see what will happen).  So again.....[8D]

hardagain -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/1/2010 5:07:02 PM)

Your perspective on politics is exceedingly out of focus. And I'm being kind.

More to the point, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Most of what's happened in the last two years was done without a single Republican vote being wanted or needed. So the tired laughable tactic of claiming the Republicans are blocking everything isn't going to wash. But even if Republicans were or are blocking certain idiotic Democrat proposals, why is that bad? Bad ideas and bad legislation should be opposed.

Democrats - particularly Reid, Pelosi, and Obama - have ALREADY offended MOST of the voters.

Which is why many of those Democrats will be going down to ignomious defeat tomorrow, and good riddance.

Tomorrow, you'll find out just how out of focus your perspective really is.

hardagain -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/1/2010 5:09:33 PM)

Spoken like a typical dull, uninformed Democrat.

See you at the polls tomorrow!

Its incredible, the Republicans are moaning because Obama hasnt cleaned up the mess left by the..... Republicans. Are American voters really so short sighted that they cant see back to 2008 ?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/1/2010 6:30:01 PM)

Both parties have had their shot before and failed.

Wasn't their a contract with America a while back? How did that go?

Until we just start cycling through politicians, and creating our own term limits and voting out the status quo politicians, nothing is going to change.

Ethical bankruptcy comes with a higher price than financial bankruptcy.

We're going to see tomorrow. Let's hope polling is offbase--a lot of these races are squeakers.

I miss the days before Reagan when Republicans could make sense.
