What does this mean?

1. Extend Bush tax cuts
2. Pass a budget
3. Repeal 0bama0 care

Or we will vote in people who will. In 2012. That's what it means, your silly dated healthcare polls notwithstanding.

Just to pick out the one that stands out in my mind, how do you feel about their pledge to use the power of the federal government to override the state's existing authority to regulate health insurance, and to replace it with a system where the states will compete against each other to see which state can write the laws which most favor the insurance industry, and those laws will then apply to the entire country?

By which you mean: should people be able to buy the insurance policy they want?
To which I respond: why, yes they should.

LOL, not one of these lying fuckers out here to say thats right, we are going to do what we said we were going to do.  They're off doing their socialistic nazi dance, and going to ruin this country some more.

PatrickG38 -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/2/2010 7:21:24 AM)

"Taking back" may be the most racist expression in common political vocabulary. Take back from whom, the black guy? It is not your America, she belongs to all of us.

Louve00 -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/2/2010 7:46:52 AM)

Ron, just guessing here, but not only do we not see them coming out to affirm that the nation is about to get fixed once and for all...my guess is they are praying they were maybe partially right so they can stick their tongues out and say "told ya so".  One thing is for certain though, they would rather the nation make mistakes under republican rule than under democratic rule.  You've heard of "and never the train shall meet?" Think republican philosophy vs democratic philosophy on those trains.  [;)]

While a battle may or may not be won, the fight will always endure!!

pahunkboy -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/2/2010 7:55:06 AM)

I voted.  And I split my vote.

People died for "me"  to vote.

My area needs a thru-way.   So I want the bacon.  I want it- and I want it now- or sooner!!    I must have it.  NOW.

Its incredible, the Republicans are moaning because Obama hasnt cleaned up the mess left by the..... Republicans. Are American voters really so short sighted that they cant see back to 2008 ?

This voter isn't short sighted. Bush messed it up to a fair thee well and Obama and his minions are shoveling more dirt on top of the mess. Time to take away his shovel and give him a spoon.

And while Bush was at the helm, many of these incumbant Dems voted right along side him. BTW, there is a growing number of Dem. voters who aren't too happy with Obama's housekeeping skills either.

We will see later tonight, just how displeased or pleased the PEOPLE are with current policy.
PEOPLE = voters of all affiliations

mbmbn

Let your voice be heard- make sure you find time to vote today !

I heard someone say that today will see the issuance not of a mandate, perhaps, but certainly of a restraining order.

This is a gross misstatement of the GOP proposals, which simply allow but do not require that states form insurance compacts with other states that clarify which laws will apply to non-domiciled policies.

That is an accurate statement of the GOP promise that if elected they will mandate that insurance companies be allowed to sell insurance in a state without having to comply with that state's insurance regulations.

They call it "adding competition".  And they're correct.  It will force the states to compete to see which one the insurance companies like the most.

They like slogans.

This from somebody who believes in "conservative solutions".

And who plans on voting, based on that belief.

From the Pledge to America:

An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Rising joblessness, crushing debt, and a polarizing political environment are fraying the bonds among our people and blurring our sense of national purpose.

Like free peoples of the past, our citizens refuse to accommodate a government that believes it can replace the will of the people with its own. The American people are speaking out, demanding that we realign our country’s compass with its founding principles and apply those principles to solve our common problems for the common good.

So, they are pledging to enact these things.  They have a short time.  They will be watched.
I don't see anywhere in that where they promised single payer, to tax the rich, to do any off the things you said.  Unless you are saying they said that by pledging to listen to the people?  But not allllllllllllll people WANT single payer or to soak the rich or to do any of the other things you claim they want.

mnottertail -> RE: Taking Back America November 3. (11/2/2010 2:02:41 PM)

Thats not what the polls say.  But I see the wriggling and shitbreathing is already starting.

They will be out on their ass next cycle if they pull that shit.

Of course, Americans remember that President Obama argued his government takeover of health care was the single most important thing we could do to address our growing debt crisis. This notion has since been thoroughly discredited: we now know the new health care law will mean more financial pain for seniors, families, and the federal government. We offer a plan to repeal and replace the government takeover of health care with common sense solutions focused on lowering costs and protecting American jobs. We will enact real medical liability reform; allow Americans to purchase health coverage across state lines; empower small businesses with greater purchasing power; and create new incentives to save for future health needs.

Sounds like a mandate to me. Also worth noting, the number of times 'Job Killing' was mentioned in the document: 6. Think, they were trying to link two unrelated things together? That, an the fact President Obama, did not take over health care.

Both parties have had their shot before and failed.

Wasn't their a contract with America a while back? How did that go?

Until we just start cycling through politicians, and creating our own term limits and voting out the status quo politicians, nothing is going to change.

Ethical bankruptcy comes with a higher price than financial bankruptcy.

This is just a reply to the Contract with America question. The quick information was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_with_America.

To quote that source: "The Contract's actual text included a list of eight reforms the Republicans promised to enact, and ten bills they promised to bring to floor debate and votes, if they were made the majority following the election."

The result listed is: "A November 13, 2000 article by Edward H. Crane, president of the libertarian Cato Institute, stated, "...However, since the Contract only promised to "bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny", the Contract did accomplish its promises, even if some bills failed in votes or fell to presidential vetoes."

So the answer to your question is that the Republicans did the very limited things they promised in the contract. It is noted that they never promised to pass those bills, just bring them up for a vote and they did. The Wiki page pretty much matched what I recalled the result being. They made limited promises they felt they could keep and kept them. I know how unusual that is for politicians but given enough promises, some of them will be kept. I will even say that some politicians really do mean to keep some of their promises and I am not limited that to any party or ideology.

Be well....

Malkinius

Hi. I'm a whore. A high-class one. Just thought I'd give everybody the benefit of what one of my regulars had to say about the elections: "This means stagnation of US politics. Nothing of any significance will be done the next two years. The US economy is already stagnating. The only answer is for the treasury to keep on weakening the dollar. With the Chinese not cooperating that means strong factual devaluation over the next couple of years. Buy some swiss francs and sell some dollars Aggie, then sit back in comfort and watch the decline of the US"
