Using your own words, Obama is also an extremist. He was unwilling to compromise on his health care bill. It had to be signed in the dark of night last Christmas eve. It was also the reason 65 democratic house members went down in defeat last night.

More proof the american public grows ever more stupid, the GOP refused to budge.  The democratic leadership kept offering, different more watered down versions and the GOP REFUSED to move.  So we end up with a piece of shit health-care reform bill that is nothing more than a fucking sop to the insurance industry.  That is what I remember from the over one year debate.

The GOP was completely shut out of that debate. It was passed by the House and Senate, then signed by the president.

See previous post about growing more stupid.  As I recall the entire one year and change process was one of the democrats offering a different and more watered down version. Only to see it threatened with filibuster by the GOP.  Then only at the end did the democratic leadership say "FUCK IT, the GOP will only refuse anyway, so lets get this thing passed"   I am beginning to think there is zero memory of anything in this nation anymore.

Or as the late great H.L. Mencken is alleged to have said: "American's have the government they think they want; therefore the government they deserve"

Derisively,

You are right. They 'got that thing passed' without the GOP. The democrats that voted for it payed the price last night.

And when things aren't peachy 2 years from now? Or 4 years?....

The reason I voted for Obama was because I was tired of the status quo. I get the reason this election went the way it did.

But what do we do when nothing changes?

I missed it too (day sleeper) but the consensus I have picked up is that he pretty clearly blamed the economy, not the myriad policies, great and small, passed and failed, that have hurt the popularity of both himself and his party.

I give as much weight to any claim of moderation as I do to previous claims of attempts at bipartisanship. He'll have to show me. Starting with the Buxh tax cuts.

That's funny. He has long been the moderate on the Bush tax cuts. He neither wants them all to expire or for them all to continue. Of course the neo con definition of moderate is a Democrat who does exactly what neo cons want.

Only a lefty could think that is a "moderate" position

In the face of this debt, do you really think taxes will go down?

Do you think enough can be cut without pissing of the entire constituency to lower the deficit?

The Bush tax cuts will be extended for all income brackets. If they are not, Obama is done.

Actually I think they will not be extended for family incomes in excess of 750k, possibly 1mm but I think the GOP will want to show that its willing to go halfway with the POTUS on this one.
