The idea of a dot xxx domain for all adult sites keeps being proposed. I personally think it is a daft idea and would not achieve its objectives. For one it would most likely be prohibitively expensive to register a domain on it. How out for a quick profit from exploiting people's desire for adult material is likely to pay the premium. There are many sites that have established addresses.
Would it not be better to have domains like dot JUV (for children) and dot teen (for teenagers) and maybe for adults of a prudish bent dot cen (for censored material but of a more mature bent).

I think it's a good idea for commercial adult websites, so long as there aren't prohibitive fees. It's categorization.

Why would it be expensive? And so, so what if it is? There is huge money in porn. I am all in favor of keeping explicit material restricted from youth. This seems like a good way to do it. Unless you have some compelling case to make, it seems no different than walking through the swinging door at the back of the video shop.

It would make no difference. Bots will still pick up keywords.

Use Google Safe Search. It's as good as you're going to get.

This is a great idea next step... creating youth keyboards without the X key.

How many children need to spell xylophone I asks?

From what I heard they were thinking of bottom end price of a domain name around a £100/year where as .co.uk/.com can be got for next top nothing.
Those who want censored content shout have domain aimed at them. Leave the rest of the web alone. Censorship should at worst be very limited in extent and be explicitly indicated where applied.
If dot XXX comes in CM will have to move to it and will be blocked in countries like australia.

LOL, Full. It's a hopeless cause, I know. The ones who want to see some nasty porn are going to find it, same as when it was just magazines.

Can't we just start one of those highly successful abstinence programs? Just say no?

Oh, and pass laws forbidden federal funds for anything that uses an X?

Rich, the modus operandi of the US government for the foreseeable future will be:

1. Blaming the other party.
2. Finding places to add or hike taxes.

A tax on porn sites would sail through like a hot knife through lubed butter.

any kind of adult business already has to pay more to do business online. I sell toys, I need spepcial rules and prices to use for my credit card processing, and "adult" content. Its a con to get more money, I now have to pay 3% A "risk" business fee despite being with the same provider for ten years and never having one charge back or other issue. And Im not even in the US.
I will not use an XXX domain until forced. Then possibly take the sex toys out of the store to avoid having to pay the 300% difference in registration. Lack of disposable ncome in the last two or so years has sunk many many adult sites.

And probably generate some revenue, too! We're gonna be paying off these loans for forever, and could use the money.

What is the difference between calling it xxx and cen? Either way, it's an adult site and any problems the one will have, will be the same for the other.

The point of my three domains is that they would all be for censored material.
Juv being aimed at being content suitable for children
Teen content suitable for teenager
Cen material that is censored and suitable for prudish adults.
Leaving the rest of the web to get on with being the web and catering for normal people rather than prudes and the underage.

In the OP he explained why it would be wrong to use xxx as a domain name. Then at the end he said "Would it not be better to have domains like dot JUV (for children) and dot teen (for teenagers) and maybe for adults of a prudish bent dot cen (for censored material but of a more mature bent)."

I was just trying to understand what difference the letters would make.

Well a further point is that such letter arrangements would be totally meaningless to anyone using the internet that doesn't speak English.

If the domains were heavily police to enforce their content restrictions. Net policing programs could simply restrict access to such domains. dot net is not chinese but it is still use as is dot org and dot com. Each nation would have its own version as well.
Those who are likely to target daily mail reader would happily pay such a premium to proove their prudish cerdentials.
