Rates have jumped 27% in some places.

Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, health care is getting too expensive for many American families.

The study looked at government data from 2001 to 2005, looking into family health insurance premiums in locations such as Maine, Delaware, and the rest of the U.S.
In locations such as Maine, they saw an increase in health insurance premiums of 27%.

This was also seen in Delaware. The health care policy group found that premiums for family health coverage rose by $2,457 in Delaware to $10,964 in 2005. This was up from $8,507 in 2001.

Oh my, that was.. was it? ... golly gee! yes, long before Obama!

I have already posted about the increase in premiums I have endured. 24% average per annum, from 2003 to present. No Obama anywhere in the picture.

I really hope that all those who are rimming the Rethugs in the hope that they might get a little of that trickle-down end up enduring the misery of this "best health care on the planet" by trying to avoid bancruptcy.

I don't have the least bit of sympathy for them. Granny's colon is infested with cancer? Tough shit. No public money for her. Let her kids pay the $300,000 for chemo. Of course, heretic has the perfect solution. All granny has to do is meditate, and get her head straight. I mean, that's what a certain asshole put forth as the perfect solution.

Don't you even ask me for any money for your granny, you fucking pricks. Let the old bitch pray.

Then WTF is the problem?

Buying more food for more family members doesn't mean food rates went up. It means additional consumption.

And frankly, for one hell of a good price!

Uhhhh....we are discussing increases in EMPLOYERS' health care premiums. Additional "consumption" means additional costs for EMPLOYERS. Since those EMPLOYERS have to balance the cost increases somewhere else, EMPLOYERS will cut other health benefits, increase OOP for employees, or cut wages for EVERYONE.

An extra 10% in medical costs (just this year, before the onerous provisions kick in) is 2% in wage increases that wont happen.

But the cost curve is supposed to be going DOWN. ROFLMAO. Some people actually believe in magic.

Musicmystery -> RE: New Poll... is anyone listening? (11/13/2010 8:22:33 AM)

Again, not at all.

This employer offered to split the increase. They could have just passed it on.

Further, to pretend that rates weren't going to continue to increase as they have in the past is sheer lunacy. Or were you counting on this "magic"?

We don't have a health care system in the U.S. -- we have disease treatment system, and one paying largely for expensive crisis care in lieu of more reasonable health care maintenance. Among other reasons (because yes, research counts), that's why we pay more than any other country yet cover fewer people.

As far as cost/benefits, I'd actually agree we tend to over-insure people. I, for example, could easily live on a $1000 annual deductible in exchange or a lower rate, and without dental and vision provisions, but I have to choose from what I'm offered.

As for things that are indeed going to cost, like no more cancellations and lifetime caps, for example, it's about time.

And while all this spells expense to you--it actually underscores how inefficient this is and why we should go to a single-payer system.

P.S. -- Whether the cost curve goes down depends on where one lives and what existed previously.

You live in California, if I remember correctly, where everything is a voter-created proposition of a mess.

Think any politician is really listening?

Are you kidding??? WTF do you care?

Did you care if they were listening when they passed this shit??

Whst they're listening to is the results from 11/2. That's the poll that counts; you're just clutching at straws and a really suspect poll.

Oh they listened alright and they listened very closely...to the insurance cos., the hospital associations, the drug cos., and of course the bankers you know...all of their benefactors, their real constituency. Single payer was DOA because they all have almost every member of congress on their payroll.

Debates of this nature are in a vacuum...the vacuum of profits that is the culture in govt. and the culture in business and just about everybody else with any power.
