I got a good chuckle out of that, particularly the graph that shows "no correlation".

I agree that it's way too early to call the 2012 election or to rule President Obama "unelectible". However, in my opinion, everything still hinges on two points (and two points only). The first is the economy. If it drastically imroves (no matter the reason), President Obama stands a good chance at re-election. The second is our many military actions overseas. These have been downplayed recently but could loom large in people's minds again. A big military disaster (a la the marine base bombing in Lebanon under Reagan or a "Blackhawk Down") and Obama would have major issues heading into an election. If we withdraw from Iraq and he's able to broker something that looks like a victory in Afghanistan in the next two years, then he might stand a great chance of getting another term.

The rest of this stuff - healthcare, cap-and-trade, education,whatever - are sideshow issues. If the economy recovers and his global policy is even moderately successful, they won't matter - and if unemployment is still at double digits and we have a bloody fiasco overseas - then nothing he does anywhere else will save him.

If nothing changes, and everything is "status quo" I suspect Obama will face major challenges in the Democratic primary. He may not get to run for a second term (as per LBJ) depending on who he's up against and what sort of backing they have. Howard Dean's name has been brought up on more than one occasion and I suspect that Hillary Clinton would love another go at the Oval Office as well.

If he makes it to the general election - if things are the way they are now - I'd suspect any reasonable Republican candidate would win. However, a lot can happen in two years, so who knows?

I think Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden should switch position's.It's common sense.With Hillary as his VP,she would be able to bring together those who voted for her in the primary 2 year's ago.Joe Biden would make a better Secretary of State.

Let me throw out a somewhat different viewpoint from the liberal camp....

So the Republicans resume control of the House. Now what are they going to do? Because as more than one person has pointed out- being angry isn't a way to govern- it's just emotion. What I haven't seen is any kind of intelligent platform out of the Republicans. There's no ownership of the policies that brought us to a financial precipice and there's no acknowledgement that many of Obama's actions have been putting out fires.

So let's assume that it's business as usual for the Republicans. Well, that probably means that the economy is going to go south again because without the stimulus money, we would be in worse financial shape. And for most of us (Austrian economic imbeciles excluded) the Depression of the 1930s showed the power of gov't deficit spending to ameliorate the effects of fiscal cycles and financial speculation. When the Republicans get into power- what exactly are they going to do? Roll back the health care legislation? Gee, and things were so rosy before that legislation came into effect- and we're currently spending what- 17% of GDP on health care? And that's going to go down how? And if we throw out the green initiatives, well, then China just gets to make more money and our trade deficit keeps getting worse. Or what happens if China decides to bite the bullet and quit buying our debt?

We're not out of the woods by a long shot. Seems to me that if the Republicans do what they did back in the 30s and the economy tanks again- they're going to get thrown out of power for a very long period of time. Doesn't this sound familiar to anyone else?

You do not want an idiot like Joe Biden as Secretary of State. He is harmless as VP.

Charles6682 -> RE: A Warning to Republicans and Conservatives ... (11/15/2010 11:29:31 PM)

What happened to the "party of Lincoln"?Licoln is probaly one of the greatest President's we ever had.Yet,he was a Republican[:'(] Was Lincoln just a "RINO"?! Another liberal Republican who didn't kiss the neo-con's ass of his day?If Neo-con's really had it their way,we'd be going back to the day's of slavery and Jim Crow.....

Charles6682 -> RE: A Warning to Republicans and Conservatives ... (11/15/2010 11:33:38 PM)

The GOP has John Boner for it's diversity now.He has a tan which make's him a man of color in the GOP!

cuckyman -> RE: A Warning to Republicans and Conservatives ... (11/15/2010 11:45:40 PM)

I have never known a liberal that had a clue about economics, or much anything else...and this one is clueless.... this guy slept thru every business class on the cirriculum no doubt. Jobs are not created by government.... and the ecomomic engine that drives this ecomomy is not found in Washington DC... good grief, liberals are as helpless as children when it comes to understanding anything about the real world.... is our education system this lame to produce mush brain robots that think Barrack Obama is the messiah! Good grief..... There will be no reason in the health care world until you address tort reform and reign in the out of control lawsuit ticks of trial lawyers.... Doctors are just NOT going to practice period.... government or no government health care....

No, because it was funny.

I used to live in Ohio and it's cloudy there 300 days of the year.

Mr. Tan is like a teenage girl going to the fake bake twice a week.

We've established time and time again that you have no sense of humor, RML.

Let me get this straight, though. After Pelosi, you want to crack on a Speaker who tans?

[sm=rofl.gif]

Absolutely.

A grown man who is vain enough to spend his time in a tanning bed?

You can be damn sure I'll be cracking on that a lot.

Get used to it.

I'd go along with this. Not only do you have the sentiment to cut spending with the baggers and others that won election but there are 12 new republican governors who now own states that have very large budget deficits and a balanced budget amendment to adhere to. In Ohio, we expect major cuts throughout the gov't that will send more workers to the unemployment lines. Programs like home heating assistance and school programs are going to be slashed. Works programs such as a new rail line between Cleveland and Cincy are being stopped......

Nancy Pelosi is as an effective Speaker as there ever has been. That you don't like her politics doesn't take away from her ability to run the House. Just a guess but I think Boner takes more pride in his golf score than whether things get done in the House.

TheHeretic -> RE: A Warning to Republicans and Conservatives ... (11/17/2010 6:46:28 AM)

Sure, YngBlk. The botox bitch did a hell of a job on the budget this year, didn't she?

You know, Boehner smokes. Maybe you should give him some hell for that too.

servantforuse -> RE: A Warning to Republicans and Conservatives ... (11/17/2010 7:16:24 AM)

Allowing Nancy Pelosi to remain minority leader shows that the dems are completely tone deaf as to what happened on November 2nd. I believe the number of House seats lost by dems is now 64. Another suburb of Chicago went ( R ) yesterday.

She has done a great job in trying times moving the House along and getting things passed. That cannot be taken from her. Compare her to any number of others from the past both Dem and Repub and she comes out looking very good.

All else I know about Boner is he cries like a fucking girl.

Enjoy it for the 2 years you have it. Look at the record , republicans are incapable of governing.

You want a prediction Servant, since you seem to offer so many?

The GOP is going to tear itself apart with all the infighting that you so wholeheartedly support.

Funny that Joe couldn't remember the name of one of the Senators that he talked to.

Things like that have never stood in Firm's way in formulating his beliefs.

So ... you didn't really listen to the clip, didja?  Have it on in the background, and just floating through it, while your attention was on more important things, and you kinda missed the context?

Firm

Nancy Pelosi, the face that launched a thousand Republicans.
If she has another facelift she'll be wearing a goatee.
