Cool - I assumed as much from your aero-tech background, but if I hadn't said anything and then later something had happened I'd never have forgiven myself.

What the hell is a noddy van?

One in which you can go "PARP-PARP!"

(I can't be the only one here who's seen Noddy cartoons can I?)

And did anyone notice we seriously hijacked a thread about atheists by talking about motorcycles.

I noticed.

I didn't care.

The ludicrous and pompous "atheists are bastards!" ... "are not!" ... "are so!" stuff got tired after half a page.

Look on it as providing a public service [;)]

Yes, I am the guilty party that started it, but we can move it back to the motorcycle thread where it belongs.

I'll just drop it instead, but point made.

Although, finally - I missed some posts; did anyone do the "God came forth in all his triumph" line as proof God rides a British bike? [;)]

Yay! Noddy pic! Bless you! [:D] Parp-parp!

(i was thinking of doing that very joke but thought everyone would go "WTF?" and jump on me, so cheers)

And it's timely too - with Christmas just around the corner we'll have, as we always do this time of year in the UK, Slade's "Merry Christmas" being played everywhere, with their wonderful and very funny front man ... Noddy Holder!

Up the Noddies!

You asked the question "Would you be willing to consider your own personal direct experience to be evidence?". I merely pointed out that our personal direct experience is not always reliable and that is why there are constraints on what qualifies as evidence.

"Merely" my ass... I never claimed that our personal experience was a reliable guide to the objective world in the first place. But since you seem to think that your point bears on my post anyway, perhaps you will be kind enough to explain in what way our personal experience is an unreliable guide to our personal experience.

We've discussed this before .

It's in the Bible.

Leviticus 91 clearly states that God rides only Harleys.

Blessed be Harley-Davidson.

<goes and checks bible>

It doesn't say that, you fibber! There's only 27 chapters for a start.

I demand my money back!

Noddy was brought back, updated, for a new audience, a few years ago. So he's on the ascendant! Go Noddy!

Parp-parp!

Agreed. Some people get very "oh FFS!" about it, but I adore it. Noddy's voice is like a cement mixer that's been washed out with bleach & gravel, and did you know he can still belt out a tune, even at his age!

IIRC Noddy said Dave was the bloke who always got the chicks, so I'm not surprised. I saw a documentary on them a while back and Dave related a superb tale about how he pulled some young filly and then managed to trip up the stairs in the guest house they were staying in while on tour, due to his massive platforms (remember Dave was a titchy chap), and the landlady got out of bed and game him a proper serve [:D]

Not quite as good as the Ozzie "epileptic groupie" story, but close.

Lucylastic -> RE: What do you think of Aetheists? (11/18/2010 5:10:12 PM)

didnt he have to keep smokin and drinking to keep his voice like that?? LOL
Im not surprised hes still got it

Yes! I did! (and tragically, still sometimes do) [:D]

Noddy H used to regularly blow mics (that means destroy them, pervs - nothing to do with orally pleasuring Irishmen), because the volume and intensity of his voice was such that the technology of the time couldn't quite keep up. On tour, they used to triple-wire 3 mics together and run them at minimal gain, in order that they'd get a signal and keep the mics intact. On one occasion he sang without any amplification at all, in a town hall, because the vocal amps went titsup.com, and his tour manager swears he was still the loudest thing on stage. Gotta love Noddy.

Barry White used to have the same problem, though his was due to bass intensity not volume.

Hang on ... Noddy Holder ... always out around Christmas ... has a voice that speaks to everyone in the room, no matter how far away ...

Good grief! Maybe he IS the messiah!

Oh hell yeah [:D]

I once went to a Whitesnake gig* and some American support band did their terrible** version of that song.

To say it didn't go down well would be an understatement. I actually feared for their safety at one point.

subjeremy2 -> RE: What do you think of Aetheists? (11/18/2010 10:05:33 PM)

Since the OP asks what people think of atheists and I assume its just an attempt to troll by some God botherer, I like 'em, they are right, they are intelligent and they stop the bible bashing fuckwits from taking over which has go to be a good thing.
I assume the OP is also American as its the onliest place where atheists are seen as something bad.
I should add that that I did a second degree in the Philosophy of Religion because its something I am interested in, not because I am religious and I know all the arguments about the existence or non-existence of any kind of god you can think of, and they all boil down to one thing, it is impossible to say anything intelligent or meaningful about something which is supposed to be omnipitant, and omnipresent.

tazzygirl -> RE: What do you think of Aetheists? (11/18/2010 10:08:29 PM)

You do alot of assuming, dont you. Pity.

subjeremy2 -> RE: What do you think of Aetheists? (11/18/2010 10:11:36 PM)

I do do a lot of assuming, because I am good at these guessing games.

tazzygirl -> RE: What do you think of Aetheists? (11/18/2010 10:14:47 PM)

An intelligent person wouldnt have to guess.

You make quite a few assumptions. The fact that religious people cannot be intelligent. Im sure you do realize how wrong you are in that assertion.

The OP is from Ohio. How do i know? I didnt have to assume, or guess, i merely looked at his profile. Again, the intelligence over the guessing game.

Funny, this argument always leaves out the ability for free will.
