ORIGINAL: allthatjaz I'm really not into the 16th century religious movement apart from how the Pagans were treated! you know the bit (well probably not) when Christians came along they took control of the Pagans by re-naming them ‘Heathens’ and burning them as witches. and I don't really get into the Rothchild's, though, being a sailor, I am ever grateful to them for the Suez Canal! and anyway, has that any bearing on the subject at hand? Your a very presumptions woman. I would advise that you never sit on a jury! That word conspiracy holds so many nasty connotations to it, don’t you think?. All the word really means is a ‘fringe theory’, something that departs from mainstream views. Unproven speculation if you like. It really just means that a minority has branched out from their scholarly education regarding certain subjects. I don’t belong to any secretive coalitions, I just remain skeptical about certain things and perhaps that stems back to the places I have worked in The City of London or perhaps I just have inquisitive mind that remains open. I'm also not among the masses that believe in ghosts or fortune tellers and I think people being influenced by their star signs is hilarious if not rather sad and they come in such worryingly large numbers. Opinion is ruled by the masses and the masses will throw stones at ‘fringe theorists’ even when their own beliefs have been routed from unproven speculation. Well it seems to me like every time an inconvenient fact of history disagrees with a conspiracy, the stock answer is "it was a hoax by the illuminati to confuse the people" - like seriously. But yeah, about the Vatican owning London...Henry VIII/Elizabeth I made a pretty clean break from the Pope, even to go so far as to begin their own church with the monarch at the head of it. So I find it highly unlikely the leader of the Catholic church owns the capital of Protestant England. As far as conspiracy = fringe, I would say that the one thing most conspiracy theories have in common is the idea of a big, vague, shadowy evil that runs the world behind the scenes. I don't think anyone would disagree that there are wealthy and powerful families that have influence in the world because of their connection to other wealthy families. But conspiracies take something normal and blow it up...in their mind, influential families are evil overlords, pulling the "puppet strings" of the "masses" so they can have some sort of absolute dominion. Like they're sitting in Dr Evil's lair plotting stuff. And then of course there are the specifics, which are always questionable at best. I really don't know which part of that site pahunk linked to was funnier, the part where the alien overlords moved to Mars and the moon, or the part where Tony Blair was supposed to become President of the EU. The first is just batshit, the second, however, was an attempt to comment on a concrete reality but....it didn't happen. Add to that the misconceptions - like saying "they voided the Magna Carta" like it was some great coup...according to wikipedia "Despite its recognised importance, by the second half of the 19th century nearly all of its clauses had been repealed in their original form." which basically means...England doesn't have the exact same law it did in 1215. Seriously? That is important? In the conspiracist's mind, the repeal of the majority of the Magna Carta is some sort of evil plot. It continually blows my mind how far they have to reach to find something to get scared and upset over. I get that there's a lot of ugliness in the world but you can't just blame it on the devil, whatever you think he might be.
