Unwillingness to go to war for something you don't believe in does not make one a coward.

I agree...but disrespecting those who are defending the nation you live in while you sit back and reap the benefits are the actions of a coward.

Some of his quotes:

Calling our Military personal murderers...
quote:

I would never do the DISSERVICE to my country of participating in it's armed forces. These "people" volunteer to commit state-sanctioned Murder. Orders are orders.

In response to a 10 year Veteran who served as a Ranger...the Army's elite.
quote:

ORIGINAL: Jaybeee

And how many people did you kill in the rangers, soldier-boy?

And what follows is his continued taunting of this Veteran. He tries to insult this man be calling him a Grunt. My guess...this "Grunt" would be called Sir if he and Jaybeee were ever nose to nose.
quote:

ORIGINAL: Jaybeee

Grunt, you've been told to answer the question, so man up, and answer. How many people have you personally KILLED?

Judging by the look in your eyes, I'd say it's a lot. Probably more than you care to think about when you've had a few drinks at the bar, looking at your reflection in the mirror behind the barman, and your control slips away.

You can tell much about someone by the eyes, and you have the eyes of someone who has murdered for his country.

So, just a number. How many?

Annnnd here is winner...
quote:

ORIGINAL: Jaybeee

just what possible reasons do you have to give ANY sympathy for current or ex-military? I can understand some dumb brainwashed 17 y.o hick wishing he could sign up, but that's obviously not you. Were you an Officer or run a business supplying the MOD?

The greatest definition of courage i ever heard: Courage is not the lack of fear. Rather, it is doing the right thing in spite of the fear.

Does Jaybeee realize that most of the men and women who have served/are serving are an example of courage? They are facing the unknown and undoubtedly there is a great deal of fear. Yet, there they are, doing a job that most of us would never want to do.

LadyConstanze, i respect your opinion, but Jaybeee is the direct opposite of our service men and women, and the direct opposite of courage is a cowardice.

Thanks sirsholly your comments hit it right on the head.

That rather depends on whether a quiet life, and a lack of debate, are your priorities in life. It’s probably unsurprising to you to learn they aren’t high on my personal list of “must haves”.

If ever I grow tired of reasoned debate and learning new things as a result, I think I'll consider myself to be very near to the end.

To Sofldan,

Thank you for your service.    My grandfather was in WWI, my Dad in WWII, two brothers in Vietnam, an uncle in WWII, another uncle in the Korean War, a nephew in Desert Storm, and a niece who is career Army.

To the rest of the servicemen and women who have worn an American uniform, my gratitude goes to you.  Thank you.  Freedom is never free.

With warm regards,
Red

from a surprising source!

I always thought Gene Simmons & the band "KISS" were a little strange. But it seems I have been wrong on this issue. This was filmed in Iraq at a USO tour of a US Marine Base.  This is COOL!!!!Thursday is Veteran's Day!  Say thank you, to those that have served and those that are serving now!

Greedy,
I saw this episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels.  I think the most touching part was when he and Sophie (his daughter) went to a VA hospital to visit the recently wounded and those who have had a long recovery.  He listened to every word that these veterans said and cried as he heard them say how much they loved their country and that they were in the military to ensure that we continued to be a free nation.  It was very moving to watch.  (I'm sure that YouTube or A&E would have that episode archived somewhere.)

Heh. I have to confess, my first thought was "those poor soldiers - haven't they suffered enough?".

Although Kiss were the second band I ever saw live. Rush being the first. I still have the tickets too.

Good lord, that was almost 30 years ago! How time flies when you're having fun.

Would you care to point out anywhere where I’ve been less than reasonable?

Sure. Your first post stated (with sarcasm quotes around "debate"):

The problem with these threads is that they rapidly (usually almost immediately), descend from “debate” into personal abuse... If certain people aren’t trolling then could they please have the manners to understand the pain that many service personnel have been through (albeit at their own behest I grant you), and more importantly, to show a little restraint and good grace

But later, when LilMichelle says, "I've blocked a couple people on here because their nonsense trolling," you swat her and call it "debate" (my sarcasm quotes this time).

That seems, um... the phrase "less than reasonable" springs to mind.

You don’t think her post was in itself insulting and abusive? Or do manners only matter now when they’re shown towards people you agree with? I didn’t agree with the tone and language of several of the “anti-military” posts either, but I didn’t resort to such language or terminology.

I'd also hardly call it either a "swat" or "unreasonable", but if it pleases you to think so then of course that's entirely your choice. I can only state that offence was not my intent.

No, I don't. Perhaps you'll show me what precisely you found to be "insulting and abusive"?

As for that second sentence (read: swipe) wipe the snot off your nose.

1. If you can't see it then I'm not really sure what more I can do for you.

"As for that second sentence (read: swipe) wipe the snot off your nose."

2. I've no desire to be patronised or insulted by you, or anyone else for that matter, when you've added nothing whatsoever to the debate at hand, so I'll not be speaking to you further. Enjoy your evening.

That seems to me better applied to the hateful crap that hit this thread, which you addressed with kid gloves while taking umbrage at LilMichelle's comparatively temperate objection. I don't think your rapier is quite as sharp as you imagine. This was a Veterans Day tribute that got mugged Westboro Baptist style. In my opinion, the "debate" (as you are pleased to call it) was off topic from the start.

Oh, and you seem to have missed some snot.

We ALL have feelings here, as human beings. You don't need to trawl for proof of feelings, RP. We are all capable of feeling insult, or anger, or sadness or elation. That's not just YOUR world, it's that of ALL of us.

It also requires thought to type anything unless you are simply moving your fingers against a keyboard.

Ah but trolls don't work that way and I genuinely had no idea whether you were trolling or not. You have to admit you do go in somewhat "full-on". Personally, I think that if one's trying to, if not persuade people, then at least offer an alternative viewpoint then it's generally a good idea not to start proceedings with a "hello, good evening and fuck you". Note however that I have done as much myself previously, upon occasion, depending upon my mood and/or the other person's initial statement.

These days I try not to, at least, not if I can possibly avoid it.

On a related note, did you see the other day that someone's now been jailed in the UK for trolling? I'm honestly not sure how I feel about that; on the one hand what the guy did was vile, and he was clearly dumber than a box of rocks, but on the other it's yet another nail in the coffin of free speech in the UK. Not that we ever had it in the first place, of course. One good thing we could take note of from America is a written constitution.
