US Carbon Trading Shuts Down, While Other Nations Step In To Fill the Void America’s only nationwide carbon trading market will shut its doors next month, a tacit acknowledegment that Republican gains in Congress spell doom for any sort of federal greenhouse gas regulations. But other countries — even mega-polluter China — are ready to fill the void.

I still find it absolutely amazing that Republicans introduced the cap-and-trade program yet suddenly became opponents of it when Obama endorsed it.

That's the crowning irony of it.  It's the perfect market-based solution to a problem that we somehow have to face.  But since their party is controlled by uneducated Limbaugh-listeners like the one on this thread, even that gets nixed.

It's similar to "Obamacare" - which was actually taken mostly from a proposal floated by the Republicans in the early 1990s, as a response to Hillary Care.  But all of a sudden those early 90's Republicans were socialists.  Who knew?

and charging higher prices solves WHAT?

You wish to pay more- fine- donate in with your heat bill.   No one is stopping you.   Clean up your neighborhood which most likely is a pig sty- litter in the road.

Clean up the graphitti-   make the place nice.

"I do not want higher prices."

You sound like a small child.  "I don't want to eat a balanced diet.  I want my candy."

Well, you can eat candy as a diet for a little while, but after awhile your body falls apart.  And then you die, very early.

We already have plenty of regulations.

And BTW-  God IS in control.

In case you wondered.

Give him a big hug and kiss from me the next time you see him.

Sure.  Why not.  :-)

Do you see him often Pahunk?

If you two go out for beers on a regular basis invite me along next time, I'd love to meet him.

You really don't have a clue how it works, do you.

I know how it works.   I grabbed the 60 MB of East Anglia U hacked emails.  It is all based on fraud.

However no one is stopping anyone from living like the Amish.  Do that for 6 months and save the earth.

I’m afraid I'm skeptical about our contribution to global warming.
Yes, I have read and listened to many of the pro climate change scientist’s reports but I have also read and listened to anti scientists, atmospheric physicists, climatologists and archeologists.

Thousands of bore holes show that the middle ages were warmer than today.
We have had a 6,000 year melting trend in the Antarctic and yet during the middle ages the Antarctic cooled and gained ice mass. We are now being blamed for the ice melt that has re-started over the last 30 years.
The Bronze age had a warmer climate than it does today and that wasn’t caused by us creating too much CO2
The USA had 5 of its hottest years in recorded history 80 years ago and in 2006 the USA reported one of the coldest Octobers since records began.

Are we just coming out of another cold period in history? Is this a global pattern that happens perhaps every 500 years or so?
I think we need to be cautious about accepting our contribution of global warming. We may well have an affect on global warming but I believe its in a very, very small way.

~FR~

Yeah, and "a vote for Bush" was "a vote for God," remember?

One would think God could make better choices.

SuzanneKneeling -> RE: Wannabe GOP chair: "God will protect us from climate change" (11/15/2010 12:35:11 PM)

There have been three separate independent investigations going through all the East Anglia emails that were illegally hacked, and none of them found anything substantive against the science.  The only thing one of them criticized the researchers for said that they could have been more open about sharing their data with the climate denialists - who have a history of mangling and misrepresenting it, so I sympathize with the researchers on that one.

You would know all this if you genuinely wanted the truth, rather than some lame excuse to hide behind.

Oh really?

I emailed the people in that batch of emails.  It is ALL A FRAUD.

Suzanne, Global warming doesn't go down well on this forum, certain people read the hoax and decided that was all they needed to call it lies and fraud. They didn't delve any further and certainly haven't updated their knowledge bases since the investigations were concluded. They still think its lies on more lies. Selective knowledge is more dangerous than lies.
Edited for smelling mistrakes

It was hard to read through the rest of your post after the second sentence left me trying to figure out what an anti-scientist was.

Thank you, Prof. allthatjaz, for taking time away from your busy research to fill us in.  And you've published these contrary findings in which climate-related journals again?  And where are all these anti-scientists [sic] then?  They seem to fail to show up in significant numbers when people do exhaustive searches of peer-reviewed literature or polling of published climate scientists.

There is little evidence that the "Medieval Warm" was anything more than a northern hemispheric phenomenon.

Global warming, allthatjaz, global.  That means average global temperature increasing.  You can - and do - have all sorts of regional shifting around of energy, from all kinds of complex dynamics.  The concern is that the earth is in the past few decades absorbing a net amount of energy, compared to the previous equilibrium.  That corresponds to an unprecedented buildup of CO2, among other GHGs.

The USA had 5 of its hottest years in recorded history 80 years ago and in 2006 the USA reported one of the coldest Octobers since records began.

And where would those five years appear on the NASA GISS record?  Other than the industrial boom corresponding to the WWII years (following a global depression), I don't see those.  In any case we've long since wiped out those "hot" years.

Again, your learned, cautiously-considered opinion is not shared by 97% of a field that comprises tens of thousands of PhD scientists in a wide variety of interacting fields.  Could you share where your special, additional information and wisdom comes from?

I just love it that people feel like they can vote on natural phenomena.  Let's all repeal the laws of gravity.  I'm tired of not being able to fly, and dammit, my opinion should count just as much as any physicist's.

Hey Jazz- re-check that Crown link you posted-  global warming is cited in that link as a FRAUD.

Yes Pahunk, we've all seen them before.

We've certainly had enough threads on them.

And they all have been debunked, except for people like you who for some unknown reason want to believe that those concerned about climate change are doing it because of some vast, global money-making conspiracy.

Not that you would ever be involved in any conspiracy theories.
