lickenforyou -> Making a name change (11/15/2010 12:46:59 PM)

i'm making a profile name change. i'm thinking of "toserveonlyYou" i AM looking for a LTR, but i don't want to imply that i am not interested in just playing, also.
What's Your opinion(s)?

Lockit -> RE: Making a name change (11/15/2010 12:52:38 PM)

I tend to go for a nickname that identifies the person rather than tells me about them. Like a name from a nickname that is more like a real name. It is cool sometimes when a nickname says something about you and what you seek, but it can also limit you and is difficult when it comes to talking on the boards or in email. What do we call you? Do you wish to be called that, even if just at first.

With this nick people would shorten it to, toserve. If you are good with that, cool! You have to be happy with the nickname because it could stick for a long, long time. [:D]

PeonForHer -> RE: Making a name change (11/15/2010 1:00:40 PM)

True.  It's a bit like a tattoo, really . . . you've got to have some sense that you'll still like it a couple of years down the road.

And, yes, do what I say, not what I did.  Still, while 'PeonForHer' is a bit crap, it's not as bad as some I've seen.

I wouldn't go for, e.g., 'Poopinmymouth'.  It's a little unromantic and a potential partner might think I have chronic halitosis.

LadyPact -> RE: Making a name change (11/15/2010 1:08:21 PM)

Personally, I like it.  The intent is good, since a LTR would be your goal.

PeonForHer -> RE: Making a name change (11/15/2010 2:03:35 PM)

Aww, thank you, LP.  To be honest, if I were to come back, I'd just use 'Peon'.  It works well enough and I prefer the shorter nicks.

But, overall, I'd have preferred something with a bit of mystery or some vaguely poetic flourish, for instance like those of Undergroundsea or ElanSubdued (my joint favourites amongst malesubs' names).

Have you ever thought of promoting yourself from Lady to e.g. QueenPact, LP?   'LadyPact' does sound snappy, though.  It's got a certain gravitas (though not the sort Wheldrake mentioned. [;)])

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Making a name change (11/15/2010 2:06:56 PM)

I think "HibsManMeat" has a nice ring to it.

I will be subtle in my next life, someone remind me, mmkay?

On that one, I think it's best that I take My own advice.  QueenPact might just attract those folks who have a fetish for queening, and I'd prefer to avoid that.

I have thought, on occasion since I got My Cap, of changing it either to MistressPact or MasterPact.  The drawback to this is the brand and the scar that I've put on clip does happen to read "LP".

I think that people looking for a man to "just play with" will find one... And fast...

Better sacrifice a shot at being "Mr. Right Now" than sacrificing all hope of being her "Mr. Right." Even with a name and profile directed toward a serious relationship, your candor and disposition can still say "Casual play = ok" when that kind of partner runs by you.

LadyPact,

i appreciate Your input very much. Your advice has been consistently very good!

Regarding the name change. You don't think that it might turn someone away who just wants to play? Or, is afraid of someone who seems to want to go too fast?

Thank You, Ma'am

I personally don't like nicknames that centre around the relationship you're looking for. A nickname is exactly that-a *name*, what you want people to call you, how you define yourself.

Defining yourself by a relationship you aren't even in yet seems a little bit creepy to me.

Plus, the pedant in me doesn't like to see an infinitive as a title. But that's probably not a good enough reason to discard anything.

I wouldn't tend to think so.  Play oriented names seem to have the opposite effect, but I haven't heard any comments on these boards from it being a bad thing that a person is looking for a dynamic.  If you were going to use one with a sense of urgency (such as needOwnernow or desper84Mistress) I'd be more inclined to say to tone it down.

Two positives that I see with it is that you are implying service, which most people see as not just in the bedroom.  It also has an air of monogamy about it if a serious situation comes along.

You make a couple of good points. But, You're right seeing an infinitive as a title is probably not a good enough reason to discard anything.

That's exactly what i was going for! Thanks

And, for the record, i like Lady being in Your name.

If you want to differentiate yourself from the masses, go with a name that reflects your hobbies or interest outside of BDSM completely.  Profile names that are "job descriptions" are a time a dozen. While a nickname expressing a desire to serve may elevate your status above the guys with names like "Fartsniffer" and "BendingOver4Fem," you would be surprised how many names have "serve" in them - and we all know how sincere all these guys are who want to serve.  Why not pick something vanilla?  Those are the ones that at least stand out.

I think this is a direct version of what I was trying to express.

(And I was kidding about the infinitive-I should have put a smiley next to it.)

Good, because it isn't an infinitive anyway.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Making a name change (11/16/2010 4:31:54 AM)

Nothing but love, peon, but "to serve" is a full infinitive...

PeonForHer -> RE: Making a name change (11/16/2010 4:35:43 AM)

Oh.  I thought she was talking about the nick 'lickenforyou'.   My deepest apologies to VC.
