TotallyDude,

Nah, i don't really watch late night TV, and i don't much get freaked out when something i like goes mainstream--if that's whatcha' mean. i did see and like Jimmy Fallon's version of the "Double Rainbow Song" on Youtube.  i felt it, yo.

Oh-eM-Gee, music lovers, i just had a rockumentary-gasm!

Today's song with personal meaning: A bit of wisdom from the bio-mom, "Remember, monkey.  Know matter where you go . . .you're fucking stuck with yourself. You'll just have to make the best of it."

lol The day I noticed I could buy a Modest Mouse cd in Target was probably the last time I was weirded out by anything going mainstream, and that's been a long long time ago. But there was something surreal about seeing Joanna and her bigass harp on the stage of the dude who used to co-host "The Man Show" with Adam Carolla. Anyway I'm pretty happy for her success, it's certainly well earned and overdue.

Okay, *laughs*, i see what you mean, Uber-"girly" + Man show = odd combo, indeed.  Kinda' wished she had chugged a beer after she played.  Is that TMI?

It musta been that miller lite banner behind her

petmonkey -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 12:35:40 AM)

[:D]  Perhaps.  i don't think it's the Miller specifically though, more my attraction to girls in frilly dresses and combat boots.
i've started listening through all the posts, Pyro, and this has become a top notch Thread. Thanks for starting it. :)

Mucho love for the Milkmen. Frilly dresses with combat boots are a hot combination, but the flamboyantly trashy mohawk is what really does it for me.

PyrotheClown -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 12:44:07 AM)

Thanks for supplying it with Rock'n tunes

PyrotheClown -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 12:57:30 AM)

Speaking of frilly green dress's and something different, there's a folk band called Y'all, a two man folk band, the lead wears a frilly green dress and a pair of combat boots(he's also over six feet tall and is completely bald)

Great show live, was only able to find some of their playable songs here

TotallyDude -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 1:52:08 AM)

Bro, you might dig Danielson . It's an absolutely bonkers little indie group. The fact that they self-identify as Christian (again it's a weird kind of Christian) made it hard for me to love them at first but musically they're too much fun to sneeze at, at least as far as The Dude is concerned.

PyrotheClown -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 10:34:02 AM)

Duuuuuuuuuuude....that's awesome

Yeah, i had the same problem with some bands.

A few tunes from my callow youth in the PNW:

Jason Webley

Fastbacks

Beat Happening

Some Velvet Sidewalk

Tchkung!

Kicking Giant

Girltrouble

The Accused

PyrotheClown -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/1/2011 11:00:25 AM)

This is no longer a thread. All the music has now wound itself around each other, country intertwining with hiphop and indy soul ,hard rock bound to funk cords and punk tunes wrapping tightly around folk brass, creating an ear bleeding foot stomp'n rope....this thread is now internet dope on a rope, so start pulling on a loose piece of twine ,follow a link, sit back and enjoy the ride @_@

Fastbacks

Oh wow I thought I was the only one who remembered The Fastbacks. They were like the last band left in Seattle after everybody else got signed. We used to play a few Fastbacks songs every show when I had a radio set back in college...I think if I close my eyes I can still hear In The Observatory in my head.

Well, I'm on rec.musicmakers.percussion, since I'm a drummer and into drumming of all kinds, and I ran across this youtube thingie. It's not a pop song, it's fusion with Dennis Chambers (who is one fuck of a great drummer (except he ain't Vinnie hehehe) and Mike Stern on guitar. Dennis is doing his absolute best trying to fuck with Mike and get him to lose his internal clock (all us musicians have an internal clock) by speeding up and slowing down the beat.

It's a testament to Mike's concentration that he doesn't lose it. IMO, this is a great moment in live music.

PixieFatale -> RE: that other other other music thread (2/24/2011 11:48:53 AM)

I listen to a LOT of stuff. However, I don't ever claim my taste in music is better than anyone else's.

petmonkey -> RE: that other other other music thread (3/2/2011 3:34:02 AM)

Tom Waits in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

PS  Tyler the Creator scarred me for life. i have passed my knowledge on to others. Because sharing is good, mom said so.
