If only I was a male prostitute I could be a good Catholic.

But I am a sinner who uses condoms without prostituting myself.

Pope Benedict XVI: Condoms can be justified in some cases

Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that condoms can be justified for male prostitutes seeking to stop the spread of HIV....

When I read it first, I had the same reaction a "WTF?" But then I realized what a big step it is actually for the Catholic Church, and in case you read a bit further, he also said it is OK for couples to use in case one partner is infected, but the big thing is, he actually does recognize homosexuals and doesn't automatically damn them to hell, which is such a huge step for the institution Catholic Church, that it is almost unbelievable.

To say it is a huge step is the same as saying how backward the Catholic Church has been.

Nobody argues with the fact that they have been backwards, but instead of focusing on the negative side, I like to look at the good side, they are coming around.

Of course it is a personal thing, and some people will always prefer to look at the negative things, I guess they love to complain. I said it a few times before, I am not Catholic, I'm agnostic, but the Catholic Church has done a lot of good things that helped people (maybe Caritas and other charities ring a bell), of course they are backwards, sorry but it's so plain that it's almost idiotic to point it out, look at the age a pope usually is, a few generations behind, so what? You expect somebody like that to be a visionary and ahead of the times? How logic is that? Then they are bound by a lot of dogma, they can't just do a 180 degree turn.

Now try to be a positive person, see what this is, it is a massive step for the Catholic church, if you would be concerned about the impact it has on people's lives you would be freaking happy, but of course other people don't really matter...

First of all the term is logical.

Second, the Pope's age is not something that should even enter into the conversation.  He is in charge of a large institution.  If he was too old he should not have been elected.

Get a grip, you might be very uneducated when it comes to the Catholic Church but that is no reason to display you ignorance so blatantly...

You are aware how one becomes Pope? First priest, then slowly being promoted, by the time one becomes a bishop they are usually close to retirement age, then arch bishop, then cardinal... But of course you want a young man, sheesh, yeah I guess you also want a manager who's under 30 but has at least 25 years of work experience.

The Catholic Church is not a Democracy, but nobody forces you to be part of it.

You keep on complaining, while I think it is a great thing that they actually made a step towards being more accepting, I guess it's the difference between being a negative git and somebody who can appreciate positives and give credit.

I was raised Catholic.

It is you who have no idea what you are talking about.

You want to make it appear as if it is an appointment based on the number of years in service.

How is the Pope elected? | Catholic-Pages.com
Popes are elected by the College of Cardinals meeting in Conclave when the Apostolic See falls vacant.

so if you don't agree with the beliefs of catholics don't be a catholic. If you don't agree with whatever religion's beliefs don't be a part of their religion. Seems simple enough to me.

I said I was raised a Catholic, I did not say that I was a practicing Catholic.

Try to pull the other leg, that might have bells on...

I was raised as a Catholic, went to Catholic boarding school... Obviously I have no idea...

No, I do not make it sound like it is a job based on years of experience, sorry if you're too ignorant to understand, I was trying to explain why the pope can't be a young man, again you don't want to understand or you are not capable of understanding.

But I congratulate you on at least being able to google and looking up how the pope is elected.

It still doesn't change the fact that you are a negative git, hope you learn how to see the positive sides one day, if not, no skin of my back.

No, I never run out of arguments, but at some point it is wise to question whether the person you are debating is worth the effort.

Note that I am talking about whether.  Though it's raining here now. How's the weather there?

Let's sum it up, you complained about a rather drastic forward move of the Catholic church, complained that the pope is old and showing how you do not understand the process of how the pope is elected, then you managed to google and find out (congratulations, must be an intellectual achievement for you), then you took a cheap shot you thought was witty and you decided that you didn't run out of arguments I must be not worthy debating with and whether and weather... English might be my 3rd language but I hope I never make as much of an arse out of myself in any foreign language as you manage to do so easily in your native language... Congratulations, again, as I said, you are a negative person, hope you find some joy in your life no matter whether it is the weather or not... Misery loves company, I don't like your company... Go figure.

Let's sum it up another way.

You are someone so indoctrinated in your religion that you are unable to view it objectively.

And before you take that as insult, consider it.
