At least 3 inches, with a steady fall....I'm thinking 4 or 6 by morning if this keeps up.

What is it about snow that just makes everything magic?  Yeh I know, then comes the slush and mud...but that first good snow of the season, everything is crisp, white and no foot prints, it all looks new,fresh...and sparkly!

The fact that it falls impossibly silent, muffling everything around it.

Like a penguin wearing a bikini

Not necessarily--ever seen a mudslide?

soul2share -> RE: Snow... (11/22/2010 2:11:32 PM)

Snow is lovely, especially the first one of the season.  I always liked to actually lay down in it and listen to it falling......watching it spiral down out of the sky....making those first footprints in unmarked snow.  Everything looks so pristine and virginal.

Now, having said that...YOU CAN KEEP IT, DEARIE!  (And you'd better!)  If the closest I get to snow is watching it on TV, I'll be perfectly content!  [:)]

Love the snow, I would miss it if I didn't get to see it every year. A blanket of white is beautiful, and you have to have the snowball fights.

Aneirin -> RE: Snow... (11/22/2010 2:43:50 PM)

I dislike rain, well, that's not quite true, I just dislike the rain we get that stays in for days colouring everything cold, wet and grey. But because of our geography, when it snows further north and south, here it just rains and one year the amusing thing was, look at the hills of Cornwall only a few miles away, they were white with snow and reports of massive traffic chaos, but here the ground was dry and the sun was shinning, quite warm actually. Although we lost a couple of our drivers for a few days, they were stuck in the Cornish snow and sending us back sms multimedia  images of it all from time to time, it was so surreal compared to what the conditions were like for us.

I hate snow

Daddysredhead -> RE: Snow... (11/22/2010 9:50:16 PM)

I also hate snow with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns.  Now if I could channel that sun into melting the aforementioned snow, I would be thrilled.

DarkSteven -> RE: Snow... (11/22/2010 9:53:41 PM)

I don't like snow.  Much as I hate the upcoming winter, I am gratified that I will win.  When the damn stuff melts, I'll still be here.

Makes the most incredible sunsets on the mountains

gungadin09 -> RE: Snow... (11/23/2010 12:28:22 AM)

i wouldn't like it if i had to live in it. Last time it snowed here was like 10 years ago- a little powder on the ground. That's snow in Fresno.

If you go way out in the woods, away from all civilization, you may hear that softest of sounds, the sound of snow hitting the ground. There is something magical about the first snowfall of the year. A virginal white blanket covering the death that fall brought. In the old days, it would signal a period of relaxation and inactivity. Childhood memories of school closings.
Then reality hits, you remember that you're facing 4-5 months of cold, heating bills, crappy working conditions, lack of motorcycling ..........
Still, under it all lies the promise of spring.

Nothing is as wonderful as gliding swiftly through the silence on a peaceful day through the snowy forest.

Especially to a husky.

GreedyTop -> RE: Snow... (11/23/2010 3:24:19 AM)

I said it before, I'll say it again..

the BEST way to experience snow is the SoCal way.. play in the snow on the mountains, then head down, change clothes, and have supper at the beach....

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Snow... (11/23/2010 9:02:28 AM)

Ok...the magic is wearing thin.    2ft of snow, white out conditions due to high winds, bringing the temps down to -2...  After a trip to the woodpile this morning, my thoughts on the fluffy white stuff are slightly altered.    How long until Spring?

Part of it for me is traveling down a childhood memory lane. All the fun I used to have playing in and with the snow.

Another is it's just beautiful and cold. I love the cold and winter in general!

It's the mark also of a change of seasons in a significant way.
