WaPo article: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/morning-fix/sarah-palins-mike-huckabee-pro.html

Basic premise is that Huckabee and Palin play to the same GOP demographic.  If they both run, they'll split those votes and both lose in the primary.

Note the comments after the article.  Several claiming to be Dems and liberals who nonetheless would vote for Huckabee.  (Where Palin would turn those voters off.)  If the GOP can come up with a candidate who is conservative enough to win the primary but has general appeal to win the election, they'll have a candidate.  As opposed to the silly candidates they put up from the Tea Party this year.

Steven, I think you're right, Palin and Huckabee can't win imho.
It'll probably be a "surprise" candidate that comes out of nowhere.
And if Oblunder keeps on the same course he'll lose all by himself.

I wouldn't have a problem voting for a Republican candidate who was serious rather than pandering to the far right of the party.  I was all set to vote for Bush the first time, right up until he selected Cheney as his running mate.

I don't actually vote in the primaries since I am registered as an independent.

Wasn't Bush pretty obviously aiming himself at the neocon right from the off, though? If the circa 2000 vaguely sane Sorebutt had got the nomination, I could see him appealing to the undecided, but the chimp?

Fair enough. I'd thought that had become obvious by the end of the primaries.

Can someone explain to me how we are now considering talk show hosts as viable candidates?

Obama's set the bar lower than talk show hosts, either of those two would be raising the bar.

Let me see if I can follow this, we have two failed politicians, one of which walked out on her job, who stooped to becoming talk show hosts.

And these are the people you want to be in charge of the country?

Plus there's the attraction of turning America into a conservative theocracy, so that we don't become like Iran, a conservative theocracy.

I've mentioned this book on here before, have you ever read American Theocracy?

It's worth the read.

....you'll need to explain to me how either one would be worse than the empty suit we have running the country now?

Once again, comprehension just ain't your ballywack, is it?

Care to point out where I said either of them are electable?

Just because I said they are better Presidential material than the current moron, doesn't mean I'd vote for them...It means exactly what it says...Obama's set the bar so fucking low, that both Palin and Huckleberry Hound are much better choices than Barack Hussein Obama mmm mmm mmm.

Well Mastercard, you seem to have missed my point.

Conservatives have taken to being celebrities instead of serious political figures.

Only from the people you planted evidence on.  Oh, and that little old lady you tazed, the one guy said he will be in next week to get a loan, because paying you off left him a little shy of the money he needs to send to his grandmother in the nursing home.

....and Obama is NOT a celebrity type? Yes, he is certainly also a "serious political figure" because he and his team expertly applied Chicago back-room political strategies to get him elected. (..it worked on me...even I voted for the man....) But a guy who gets a Nobel prize....based on? ... what? ......certainly nothing he had accomplished in his life was worthy of it. His notariety came from being the first black President. The prize came from his celebrity. Nothing more.

Would I ever want to see Palin, or Huckabee....or Limbaugh, or Hanity, or Al Franken, or Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann or any other talk show host elected President? Hell no. I want to see someone whose life experience and accomplishments qualify he/she to hold the office. After watching him for 2 years now I feel Obama is a failed President and not qualified to hold the office and needs to be replaced next time around.
