I'm a fairly hardcore conservative Republican, and although I really like both Huckabee and Palin, I really really hope that they don't run next year.

Mike Huckabee is a nice guy, and comes across that way. He also comes across as very religious, which turns a lot of people off. His base would be the people who knew him when he was governor, and maybe the people who watch his show on the weekends. I don't think he'd make it out of the primary.

Sarah Palin says a lot of things I agree with, but quitting as governor was pretty much the end of it as far as I'm concerned. Would she stay the course as president? She would need all the Republicans behind her, which she truly doesn't have, pull in the independents, and get some of the Democrats to win. I know way too many Republicans who voted not for Obama, but against Palin in the last election.

I think Mitt Romney is going to run again--good political experience, good business experience, but just like in the last primary, people are too caught up with the "oooooh Mormon" thing and he won't make it again.

Last weekend, there was an interview with Herman Cain, the previous CEO of Godfather's Pizza, who stated he was looking at running for president. Excellent speaking ability, excellent business experience, comes across as someone who could handle the authority of the job. Plus he is black, which would end the "I'm voting for Obama because he's black" that most of my co-workers announced in 2008.

I think I heard that Newt Gingrich and several others were also looking at running. I hope not.

claree, while I like a lot of what you've written, I've never heard of Cain. History wouldn't be on his side - the only candidate I can recall who ran for President with no previous political office held, was Perot. I can't take him seriously as a candidate.

There were IMO a lot more people who voted for Obama because he's a Dem than because he's black.

Of course most of the voting for the Kenyan was over party not race, but that doesn't lend itself to fearmongering, so a lot of Republicans tend to ignore that inconvenient fact in order to focus on the other.

I guess that depends on how you define celebrity, but I think I know what you are saying.

As much as I support Obama I cringed when he was on the Daily Show the other night.

It's one of my favorite programs but it just seemed inappropriate for the President of the United States to be a guest on a comedy show.

It's not just him though, it has somehow become acceptable.

McCain was a regular on the Daily Show during the campaign, and now we have two former Governors hosting talk and reality shows.

Yanno, ALL presidents US are reticent to overturn or abruptly change policies of former presidents like them or not, (for the first part because it will get them ALL caught).

For the second part, he is continuing the W policies much like breathing is proffered as evidence that you are of intelligent nature.
