I'd like to know what others think about branding. Myself, anything thatleaves a mark is a limit.
Although after a good workout at the gym I love to go relax in a tanning bed.
So a few years ago I decided to brand a D on a certain body part for my Dom as a surprise.
Now its a way of life for us. Either the D is there or I get into trouble.
He proudly displays it at parties for others to see as well.

I've also considered henna tattoo's, although never done it yet. Does anybody have any other ideas?
Also how do you feel about branding. Permanent brands are well permanent.

::Laughing:: you would think so wouldn't you? I knew someone who spent a LONG time researching different kinds of brands. He wanted to do a brand as one stroke, not multi strokes. He went to those who were considered experts (like Fakir), had someone who was good with metal create 1/2 a dozen brands before they found a design that could be done as one stroke, wasn't to thick, and was something that had *special* meaning.

The ceremony was awesome. I have never seen as much love radiate from someone as I saw in her eyes as she lay there waiting. She didn't even flinch as he touched her with the hot metal or got her bandaged to avoid infection. During the next week, he was very careful in watching that it was cared for properly. At a week, it was great looking. At a month, she was so proud when he showed it off. By 6 months, it was barely visible. Part of his *aftercare* was using a healing antibotic. And it caused enough healing in the first week to have it that you can't even find it after a year if you don't know where to look and strain to see it.

I've found that often when a scar becomes difficult to see (for whatever reason) that you can do some light, stingy slapping to the scarred area and it will bring the scar up more visibly for a short while.

I don't profess to have branding experience, although I have a real interest and hope to do it when the time is right. I do a good bit of cutting for the purpose of scarification, though. It's not uncommon to reopen a cutting multiple times to get the amount of scarring you want. And everytime you recut it's a little (to a good bit) more difficult to do because the existing scar tissue is more difficult to cut.

I'm curious to know if any one has done a repeat single strike branding, for the purpose of increasing the scar. If so, how'd it go?

Branding on human skin is a dicey proposition at best. most of the folks that I know who have tried it either ended up with something that faded as described earlier in the thread, or with something that was not at all delicate and becoming, rather turned into a big, clunky, ugly scar. Scarification is probably your best bet if you want something that looks "brand like" but is somewhat delicate and becomming. A number of folks that I know have used that approach to apply a "Kef" to a slave's thigh with good results. Others go for the more mundane but reliable tatoo.

On a side note, think long and hard about branding, scaring or tatooing a slave with a personal mark of some kind. In the culture that I came up in, it is traditional to mark the slave's collar with the identity of the owner, but the brand, scar, or tatoo simply marks them as a slave. I know that we all have good intentions when taking a slave to keep them for the long haul, but things (as we all know) don't always work out that way.

Take care of yourself,

Leonidas

Another alternative is cutting and using tattoo ink to push into the cutting. You can do some interesting things with this technique and it's permanent and different.

well it's a fine idea....unfortunately MOST relationships don't last as long as the tattoo does. i was so flattered when one of my initial Doms stated He was intending to get me tattooed, early in the relationship. He told His four other subs the same thing! lucky me, huh? i think it's a great idea, in fantasy. In real life? i'd be having some expensive lazer treatments takin' off all of 'dem names.
i'll stick with the tat that i chose for my azz...
be well,

i wondered about branding too. When Master J first started training me, he made it clear that there would be no branding, cutting, burning, etc.
i would accept it if He changed His mind though and it pleased Him to do so.

I would'nt change a limit of mine. However there are always exceptions to every rule.
My Tan brand now is a dark D for Doug. Or maybe I should say very light D now. It is tanned all around the D. Sticks out prominently and he can show it off at parties. If he ever wants it gone..all he has to do is tell me to tan over it.

Cuttings are a decent alternative to branding for a permanent mark, although laser branding has really raised the bar on detailed and intricate brandings.

Also implants are an interesting way to have a permanent marking/brand.

They come in many sizes, some quite small, though most of the pics you see online tend to be the honking HUGE monster implants -rather than the more subtle and sedate implant sizes.

Think of braille under the skin in a design.

I LOVE my cuttings - they're pretty, subtle, and unique.

I have a rose on my chest that you don't notice unless you're looking for it, but shows up quite nicely when the skin is slapped a couple of times. I have the kanji for harmony on my arm which also isn't noticable unless you're looking for it.

I also have a stylized sun on my thigh that you can't miss, because it was rubbed with purple tattoo ink both times it was cut - looks similar to a tattoo, but not as precise or "clinical". It's got a softer look, and you can see the scars inside the ink when you look closely at it.

I admit, though, that branding fascinates me. I went to TES30 just to see Raelyn do a branding workshop, and it was magnificent. One day I'll get one myself....

I have done some research on branding and it does intrigue me. As of now i have no tattoos or markings on me yet. I love the fact that it is a permanent mark left by someone very special to me.

I'm not sure if this pertains to other ideas but, Would you ever consider any type of piercings?

I recently got a prince albert. After that experience i'm hooked on piercings lol

Greetings! I have a brand that was done with a cautry pen by my Dominant, Lord Prophett. It was gone over a total of four times in a two year period. When flogged, it becomes three-dimensional. For pics and story:

I have a brand on my left cheek of my ass :) It is a big T as that is my Mistresses First letter of her First name. I think it is fading though. It is a couple years old. I had no problems with it as we were getting married. It was my idea.

Sounds like that brand was too well cared for to serve it's purpose in marking the property.

A brand is cared for simply by keeping it clean and dry (like any other 2nd degree burn.) Similar to cuttings, when they are healing (after 7 days), they can be encouraged to keloid by irritating the healing tissues by scrubbing with a toothbrush soaked in peroxide. Brands and cuttings can also be inked with tattoo ink or with fresh cigar ash to create a shaded scarification.

ShadowHwk, Thanks so much! I enjoy sharing my brand. The brand is now a nice pink scar which raises after flogging or slapping. After four times, it is fairly permanent. The beauty of cautery brands is that when it begins to fade, you can just go back over it. One of the things we really enjoyed was the freedom to create any design (even circles) in one sitting. Also possible with the pen are intricate designs (some are shown on the website) and fine lines which are extremely difficult with strike brands. Aftercare is a walk in the park (no debreeding) except it itches like hell when healing and picking is forbidden because it will feather and blur the fine lines. A vanilla friend saw it one day and assumed it was "one of those inkless tattoos". I just smiled and nodded.

ladyshivers,

Thanks for the information.. One more question. Where does one find a "cautry pen", my web searches turned up many references, but not a source.

Thanks

Be glad to oblige. Lord Prophett and I own Prophett's Toy Bag, a bdsm oriented "store" and we sell the branding pens. Go to www.prophett.net click on the Prophetts Toy Bag banner, then to the medical section of the index. One thing we have learned through trial and error that needs to be fixed in the section that says we apply antibacterial ointment daily. We do not do that anymore. One good treatment with it the morning after and then we leave it alone. It seems to heal better without it. Daily showering should keep it sufficently clean, but of course use common sense.

Well this is a topic I've had quite a bit of experience with...and I'd say short of the latest craze of laser branding the most effective I've found to date is scalpel branding and the process is normally very meaningful one. I would never brand an initial into someone as I think doing such would signify a stronger bond than I have yet to form with anyone to date. So it is normally a symbolic design that is used to signify the transition from old life to new life. In such, if you regularly tan the area that is branded after the first couple of weeks and till about the 3 month point the final lasting brand is normally quite consistent. There is shrinkage of course and if the design is too elaborate (unlike what can be done with Lasers) the final settling of the skin can sometimes cause minor distortions which is why I like clear, concise drawings rather than ones with too many curves. Also normally at about the 3 month point, depending on final healing, I get a tat tracing around the branding in black or red depending.
