I heard Mitch talking about it. My clear understanding was that everything would be filibustered until the continuing resolution to fund the government and "the Bush tax cuts" were voted on.

Of course, Dream and DADT will be filibustered anyway... I think and hope.

But Reid plans to file cloture this week on at least three measures: the DREAM Act, collective bargaining for firefighters, and a 9/11 health bill. A senior Democratic staffer told The Huffington Post that it was likely to happen tonight or tomorrow. If it happens tonight, any of the bills could come before the Senate for a vote on proceeding to full debate as soon as Friday or possibly early next week.

.........

There could be some cracks in the GOP coalition to stand firm against any non-budget or tax cuts legislation though. Sen. Susan Collins' (R-Maine) is reportedly open to voting to proceed on repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, even if the other issues aren't yet resolved.

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) recently introduced a compromise bill on extending unemployment benefits. There's no indication yet that it will make it to the floor anytime soon, but if it did come up before a vote on the Bush tax cuts, it would put Brown in the tough spot of voting against his legislation or breaking with his party. Brown's office did not respond to The Huffington Post's request for comment.

Elections have consequences. He has no choice.

That attitude is exactly what's wrong with all US leaders, both Republicans and Democrats. Tell the American people what they want to hear and make a show of trying to follow through on some of it, then accept bribes from corporations in hopes of getting re-elected. He does have a choice! They all do! They could choose not to take that money. They're already financially secure so they don't need the money to survive. So what if they don't get re-elected. They would be remembered as leaders that were for the American people, not for the corporations.

The priority seems to be to improve luxury spending. I suppose people can use their tax cut to buy a new yacht.

Luxury spending is back in fashion
But lag in essentials shows income gap

Consumers are buying more luxury items but spending remains tight for everyday essentials such as food and dental care, a USA TODAY analysis finds, suggesting a growing divide between haves and have-nots.

Purchases of TVs, jewelry, recreational vehicles and pet supplies are growing robustly, government data show. At the same time, spending on medical care, day care, education is down in the dumps.

He says higher-income and older households, helped by a strong stock market, are experiencing increased wealth and spending more. However, high unemployment is pulling in the other direction, depressing spending among people without jobs and those anxious about job security.

That divide has been growing since Reagan introduced his golden shower economics.

I'm sure glad we don't have any intentional obstructionism going on.

The Republicans really want to reach across the aisle and accomplish something.  [8|]

Regarding handicapped minds, I think your post speaks for itself.

You haven't been paying attention Tazzy.

See, all bills passed by Democrats are unread by the Democrats, only the Republicans read the bills and understand what a danger to America they are.

LOL, remember how they were hooraying the TeaBagger?  Finally broke the stranglehold on Mass?

That fucker is going under the bus, he's a dyed in the wool democrat, as I said at the outset.

Looks like the nutsuckers and neo-cons got fooled AGAIN-STILL.

Like the one on the other thread... the one where the Republicans have no clue how each state has made criminal background checks a mandatory requirement for employment in day cares and schools.

Interesting to know this.

RacerJim -> RE: President Obama: FIGHT, don't cave on Bush tax cuts for millionaires! (12/2/2010 12:10:43 PM)

The Republicans should tell Obama, Pelosi and Reid exactly the same thing the latter have been telling the former for two years now..."We won. Shut up and stay out of our way. You can come along for the ride but you gotta sit in the back."

What exactly did you win?  Control of the House?

You do realize the Senate and the Presidency are still in the hands of Democrats.

What do you think the Republicans in the House are going to accomplish without the support of Democrats?

You are simply too cute. Misinformed... but too cute!

Show me a good tax consultant, and I will show you alot of rich people that paid less taxes than I did. A friend does that for a living, and a good one at that. The tax code is so hugh and complicated, so he can make good money getting the rich out of taxes. They can raise it all they want, but I don't believe it will really have an impact on the rilch. Makes me feel good if I could believe it.

tazzygirl -> RE: President Obama: FIGHT, don't cave on Bush tax cuts for millionaires! (12/2/2010 12:29:13 PM)

Which is why im all for scraping the existing code and going for a flat tax. Everyone pays in, all the way down to proverty level. Everyone pays the same amount based on all income. No tax forms, no tax write offs. You never see it, it comes directly out of any income you make, regardless of the source.

Nonsense.

Another myth.

I have two friends who are accountants and they tell me there are only limited things you can do to reduce your tax burden.

If your friend is making good money by doing that then the chances are your friend is going to end up before a judge eventually and his clients are going to be audited for the taxes they owe.

So the Republicans didn't read it, whine about it like a bunch of schoolgirls who'd had their Justin Beiber poster confiscated, and then insist on removing the single payer provision?

Perhaps because that quote has been debated to death on here.

But that's what I love so much about conservatives, no matter how many times they are proven wrong they just keep repeating the same nonsense like windup dolls.
