Have you seen Sicko? Hillary Clinton was for single payer until she was paid to change her views. I suspect the same thing happened with Obama. The problem with the majority of both Republican and Democrat elected politicians is that they all have their price. They think campaign dollars and re-election are more important than the American people.

I finally figured out where the 700 B comes from. Here is somebody's quote I found. I hope the numbers are correct. quote: We are told over and over that extending the tax cuts for the rich will cost 700bn (they never say 'over ten years, of course). And they say we cant afford that. Well what will the middle class tax cuts cost? And how come we can afford that? One article says 4 trillion over ten years for ALL the tax cuts, so that means the middle tax class tax cuts would cost 3300 billion to extend just themselves. Which I find strange given the Dems have been calling the 2001 bill tax cuts for the rich, yet it seems less than 25% went to the rich. So, why can we afford a 3300 billion tax cut extension, but not 700bn, when we have 10,000bn deficits the next 10 years, to start with? So the 700B is actually 10 years estimate. Why then to compare this 10 year estimate with the 9 month unemployment benefits number (28B)? It can be only explained with propaganda intent. 10 year projection itself is a suspect of manipulation. How do we know it if we can not correctly predict economic growth for the next quarter? In my own opinion the current tax levels are reasonable (even for the rich) compared to other countries. The income distribution is a problem, not the taxes. Rich giving more money to the government does not necessarily benefit lower classes. We may just get more B2 bombers and "quantitative easing" for the World banking cartel. If to cut the government size, lock up the financial parasites, actually collect taxes (Fortune 500 companies effectively pay taxes 22% an average, hedge fund managers pay low capital gain on billion dollar incomes, tax avoidance and fraud is a big business) things would be OK. Bush's problem was not cutting the tax rates but rather not simultaneously cutting the size of the government and spending. Smart move would be to extend current tax status for everybody. The US economy needs serious structural reforms. Tax increase itself solves nothing, but slightly worsens the situation.
