I'm getting a bit fed up with the unwarranted accusations and name-calling. I've tried to ignore it, even reported people when I felt it necessary, but it continues.

But hey, I might be seeing this all wrong. Maybe it's OK to call people names and make unjustified accusations against them. I don't think so, though. I just tried it, in response to the latest accusation and it hasn't really gone down that well.

Maybe I just need to get a 'thicker skin'? Why? Why shouldn't the accusers be asked to stop instead?

So - name calling and 'attacking the man and not the message'. It's all OK, isn't it? What do you think?

I look at this this way....

it's just online. You don't know me. I don't know you and you can call me whatever the fuck you want. If I don't like it I put you on ignore, I shrug my shoulders and don't give it another thought.

It's just online, not real life as far as I'm concerned.

I've got bigger problems in life to worry about than some name on a screen.

Maybe you need to take a break from the computer if it's bothering you so much?

Dont judge me because I sin differently than you.
If you want it sugar coated, dont ask me what i think! It would violate TOS.

Just be right then all their name-calling will make them seem infantile...then press the hide post button if they are really bothering you. I figure if they spew hate and break TOS then eventually the moderators will take care of them.

Myself I will not report anyone...I can take it...and give it if necessary…that’s good enough for me.

I say grow a thick skin and get over it. If it bothers you that much, just remember: you're two grown people arguing over the internet. Don't take it so seriously.

Or you can "man up" and fire back with infantile responses that will leave them in a pool of their own tears.

Here I'll help you out:

That man (woman) is cruelly depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.
You're so fat you get clothes in three sizes: extra large, jumbo, and oh-my-god-it's-coming-towards-us!
Yeah, yeah, keep talking, someday you might say something intelligent.
Oh I didn't know they piled sh*t that high.
Or my favorite, you are a poopie head (bam, shuts them up every time).

I tend to see it like this.  In three and a half years around here, I've managed not to call anyone an asshole or any other variation of things that I tend not to call people.  That doesn't mean that there haven't been cases of people on these boards that I have thought were absolute idiots.  I'm pretty sure that shows.  I'm not one much for suffering fools and if I think someone is a twatwaffle, it's going to be rather apparent.  Over time, I think I have learned how to convey certain messages without violating TOS.  (That isn't to say that I've never written a post that has said I would probably be moderated for My comments, but I could live with that.)

Fight fire with gasoline.

I know you think somewhat like I do. Ever try any martial arts ? Apply the same principles, use the attacker's energy against him or cause him to waste it, hopefully hurting himself. IIRC I only reported one thing, it was a mail, a scam, but it was done really well and it just so happened that I knew it. Many others may not. Regular scams, fuck it, they are so obvious.

There is one resounding chord, like an E on a guitar. Get back to basics, and in this case it means logic as well as a few other things. When someone called you a name in elementary school what did you do ? Round here alot of kids said "I am rubber and you are glue, what you call me bounces off and sticks to you".

Remain composed. Lure the opponent into a corner, but unlike some others, don't let on. For example you say "[quote their bullshit] This proves this and whatever". Don't give them the information. Put them in doubt as to exactly how to respond. If they don't give it any thought then, that's different. But if they do, they will learn how to express themselves more proficiently and sans the mudslinging. You DO have to able to prove your point usually.

People like me believe you more than most because of my background. I believe things because they fit into what I term my "knowledge lattice". If you say a politician lied, I believe it, if you say a dog made you an omelette I don't. Let the namecaller namecall. Maybe that's the thicker skin, again getting back to basics "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me".

Hertz, you are a conspiracy theorising nutjob with some kind of disorder. You need help, you are totally whacked. Come down Denison Ave. and take a right, it's the yellow house and if you don't mind we are low on papers. Set a spell, take your shoes off. We are out here (or out there). I am a deviant slob with no respect for anything, I have lost more than many have had, I have actually destroyed more than many have had. I am a total asshole.

But I am qualified to be a politician. I know how to put money in my pocket. Let them call names, just refrain from it yourself, be the better. Opponents play YOU. That is the nature of the game. Let them show inferiority. Even if we were sitting at my table and I had a gun in my hand, it's only words. In words, everybody plays by the same rules, that is a fact of nature. What's needed is strategy.

To update a saying by Sam Spade, it's been a long time since I ran home crying because someone on the Internet doesn't like me.

The reason people name call or pick holes in your profile when it has absolutely no relevance to the topic is because they want to get to you. Its bullying but I doubt they see it that way because after all, its only the internet and so not real life!
Of course its real life because if it hurts someone then it has directly affected a living human beings feelings and anything that affects a living human beings feelings is real life.
People have committed suicide over internet bullying and that is a very real fact.

I am fairly assertive in my posts. If I don't agree with something someone has said regarding a topic, then I will quote them and perhaps pull them up about it. I don't hold back because its an online friend and if they take offense at me disagreeing then its their issue and not mine. That is a lot different than name calling and getting personal.
The one thing I don't do is call people names or gang up.... grrrr I hate witnessing the gangs.

Would it bother me if a group of people started getting personal about my profile or calling me names? I think it would. I like this site but if that sorrt of thing happened I wouldn't want to come here anymore and that in itself would be disappointing.

Sometimes, what seems like name calling, is just accurate identification.

I think threatening to reort people makes one sound like a tattler. It brings on a whole grade school vibe.

Srsly? You felt the need to start a thread because you're being called names?

If you haven't learned to either play nicely with the irrelevant strangers or to brush off their opinions by your age then you need to turn off the computer. This is the internet; it *doesn't matter*.

(And your 'accusers'? Could you *be* any more melodramatic?)
