Just as there are scumbags on the streets, there are scumbags in the police, just because they have a badge, it does not make them perfect as one might ask why someone would want to go into the police force if it is not for the use of force hiding behind a badge, plenty of thugs in the pigs.

Anyway, that age old tactic of divide and conquer is at work with these protests, the media, is just hedging it's bets, although thay have been known to make a mountain out of a molehill with some of the actions, just listen to the commentry when the video is shown.

Because of the scumbags, the un uniformed ones, the student protests are losing sympathy the country over, so in effect the common man is turning against themselves and that supports the government stance. So the bona fide students need to seperate themselves from the violent, which I believe they are trying to do, but if someone in their crowd wears clothing that hides features, they should be ejected from the group.

Or, back in the real world, people have seen the juvenile whinging over relatively unimportant changes for what they are; a bunch of kids moaning like fools while there are much more harmful cuts happening elsewhere.

Christ almighty. The man I mentioned can't even use his fucking arms

I wasn't talking about him. But then you knew that. If you stopped trying to score points and started actually looking at the footage you'd be able to see what actually went on - concerning the main protests, not a single incident, the details of which we don't fully know yet.

Has this been posted before? I haven't read the thread. TBH, I'm sick and tired to death of those sort of farts who will always maintain that all demonstrators deserve to have violence inflicted upon them just because they're demonstrating and that the police only act aggressively when there's 'due cause'. This sort of thread, unfortunately, always produces plonkas who will maintain this sort of line and I can barely stand to read their cretinous, blinkered, ignorant but unassailably smug, opinions anymore.

Well you know the answer to that problem. Hint: it involves sex and travel

No-one's saying the police are perfect. However, once the dust has settled, and with the benefit of hindsight, it's pretty clear that the overwhelming majority of police were tolerant and non-violent, in the face of violent assaults from a large mob. Those that were not will face charges, and prosecution, with jail, loss of job, and therefore pension, as a result.

If you've been following the issue since the demo you'll have seen such gems as the London NUS leadership refusing to condemn violence against the police, as well as the total ineptitude of the national and local NUS groups in making any kind of headway; that's what amazes me most about the whole thing - the fact the NUS are so totally moronic in their choice of routes, campaign strategy and protest methods. As just one example, it's possible to bring central London to a standstill on a daily basis with fewer than 5,000 people, if one were to employ peaceful sit-down protest tactics on major arterial routes and choke points, as London is such an old city that its road system simply cannot cope with blocked roads, and police couldn't deal with (i.e. process) more than about 500 protestors at a time. "Kettling" in those situations would only increase the efficacy of the protest. Plus any students actually charged would be charged with a relatively minor offence (obstruction) that the NUS coffers could easily pay off.

By relying on outdated "marches" and confrontational tactics, as well as failing to maintain order in their own ranks and shun anarchists and thugs, the NUS have managed to screw things up about as royally as is humanly possible. And that's the best and brightest? God help us!

PS: It's "plonkers", not "plonkas", you plonker

That's a rare event as a result of a demo, RF. The usual result is that an accused officer will get the benefit of the doubt because of the provocation that he or she had received. Or so my father's always agreed. I guess he should know - he served in the Met Police for twenty five years, five of which were spent in Complaints.

And it's 'whingeing', not 'whinging', you pompous windbag

Times have changed, and things have moved on. There's (some, limited) video evidence, and it'll be investigated.

Actually, there are at least two videos of the incident. Certainly, a demonstrator would face a probable conviction on such evidence.

And 'plonkas' is as acceptable as 'plonkers', you smug dildo.

It's the "evidence" of what went on prior to the alleged offence that's a bit thin, but as I said, it'll be looked into.

It's too public an issue not to, if you follow me.

BZZZT! Wrong, but thank you for playing.

"Urbandictionary" is not an official, recognised dictionary, you brainless wankstain "Plonker" is in the OED. "Plonka" ITYF, isn't.

*Sigh* And which version of the OED lists the word 'wankstain', exactly? My version doesn't appear to have it. People play with slang. Gawd, RF. Sometimes I think there's enough gas in you to fill an airship. But, whatever, thank *you* for playing.

Times certainly do move on, though, as you say. The students have come out of a long, long period of apathy and they need to get politically astute. The police have yet to catch up, as well. One little thing that they must get together, very quickly, is that there are now cameras on them, everywhere, and held by vast numbers of the demonstrators themselves. There isn't any point, for instance, in denying that they'd done a horse-charge - as they did - only for that horse-charge then to be flashed right across the web.

The interview on Newsnight where some halfwit was asking the palsy victim to justify "attacking" the rozzers was a bit pathetic:
Not quite Paxman...

Relatively unimportant? Raising the fees so somebody from a poor background can't afford to study anymore is not unimportant, I consider that very important because otherwise you're getting a lovely place where only rich kids can afford to study and get advanced degrees. As I said, I'm still paying back student loans, but oddly enough the guys who are trying to push through that massive raise are the ones who got their education for free...

It's not raising the fees, it's the enormous raise that will make it next to impossible to study if you don't want to spend the rest of your life repaying student loans...

The whole thing's a bit pathetic, really. I know the Beeb is famous for having no balls or backbone when dealing with a conservative government, but for Heaven's sake...

The guy was possibly waiting for a comment like "I was planning to throw something as soon as I had grown a new pair of fully functioning arms..." Then he could have come up with "Oh so they were acting in self-defense..."
