Oh, yeah, I can't attend air shows because I am convinced the planes are going to fall on my head!

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 8:14:48 PM)

How is THIS for a strange phobias, Big Apes especially King Kong. Blame it on my mother [yes she takes FULL responsibility for this one]

I still have panic attacks when I see Gorillas and Big Apes; I had to leave the movie theatre when they were showing the making of it before a movie I saw this past summer to keep from freaking out, my bestfriend knew about it and she came and got me when it was over. I am cool now about the comercials for it beign out on DVD, but it was a hell of a summer having to leave the theatre every freakin time they had the making of it on 'First Look. '

I had a panic attack during Mighty Joe Young when it was in the theatre, they had to call an ambulance out, it was that bad.

Nuff said.

Eating in restaraunts, fills me with dread, I loathe it. I have tried and tried to force myself but have never overcome this.

mistoferin -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 8:23:40 PM)

Wow...suddenly I don't feel like I'm all that weird. Ok...the spider creepy-crawly thing is a given right? I mean everyone is afraid of those.

As for the street sweeper thing...I grew up in NYC and the street sweepers there were HUGE. When I was a kid my mom told me this little boy got caught up under the brushes and got ground up til there was nothing left of him. Her way of keeping us off the curb and away from the damn things.

Same with the cardboard...little boy playing inside a cardboard box got run over by a truck and it squished him flat. No playing in boxes. She probably didn't realize I'd never be able to buy eggs until they came out with those styrofoam egg cartons. Sheesh, she should have put me in therapy!

My dad's food can't touch just like you smilezz...he says it's cause when he was in the army they just piled everything on top of each other. He also can't stand balloons....not sure what that one is about.

Oh and I remembered one more of mine. People untying knots in shoelaces with their teeth...I just want to slap them.

Benji, I'd answer your question...but by the time I finished reading it I am just too dizzy!

Oh yeah and darq....we have this bridge here called the Mackinac Bridge (pronounced Mack-in-awe...not sure why) that is ginormous. The winds get really blowing hard up there and a few years back it blew this lady in a Yugo right over the side. Every year they have this big walk for charity across that bridge and thousands of people turn out to do it. Damn fools!!!

Tikkiee -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 8:29:18 PM)

I have enough normal things that put fear in my heart. Anything that could be classified as 'weird' does not come close to the real things.

WeeIttyBitty -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 8:52:19 PM)

Iam afraid of poking an aligator with a stick. Fortunatly living in Alberta I dont come accross too many aligators.

acissej -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 9:17:36 PM)

This really isn't that unusual, but I'm claustrophobic and hate crowds, tunnels and airplanes, basically anything I can't get out of quickly.  Sadly, that extends to bondage.

I'm also totally squicked out by the circulatory system.  I'm fine with blood, but as soon as someone starts talking about veins, arteries, capillaries and so on, I get grossed out and my fingers get all weak.  The bad thing is I have some hematological problems, so I'm constantly getting blood drawn.  I have no problems with needles, but my veins are uncooperative and the phlebotomists always want to talk about my veins and it makes me feel ill.

I'm scared of eyeballs, too.  Ew.

quietkitten -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 9:22:16 PM)

I have a MAJOR earthworm phobia.... when it rains... I must stay indoors until they all crawl back home

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/29/2006 9:27:31 PM)

{mental note.. put phobias under 'hard limits'}
mistoferin, Cool.. thanks for the idea.. I can give you credit of that right?? {nods head.. say 'yes.'}

*grinz*  not me!  i have this strange fascination with spiders...especially black widows.  I keep several of them on the porch.  Wellll, as many as 4 that is....Thorns absolutely will not allow me to keep any more than that.  I do end up killing them, but i love to sit and watch them spin their webs.  They are absolutely breathtaking.

Ok, i'm weird.  *laughs*

OMG

Thank you, mistoferin ... Now instead of just being afraid of the bridge crumbling beneath me, I can also be afraid of being blown right to hell off the damned thing. OMG ... Lord ... *meeps*

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/30/2006 5:20:17 AM)

Ok... I'm terrified of insects..and anything that may have anything to do with them.. My house is amazingly free of cobwebs, our girl takes full responsibility for protecting me.. Beyond that... I don't do well in high places and I hate being in large crowds for extended times (except biker rallies and some lifestyle events)

And two of my kids are terrified of cotton balls (it's hilarious to watch my son... 6' tall and strong as an ox... run from cotton balls) All of them are afraid of my hair brush... but that's because I'm an expert at swinging it. And one of my daughters is afraid of false teeth, she will hurt herself trying to get away from them.

Buses...damn I HATE buses.  And driving over bridges...especially loooooooong bridges.  I get so paralyzed that when we get to one, I often have to let someone else drive.  I am so afraid that I am going to drive off one.

givemyall -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/30/2006 5:36:11 AM)

It's not really a 'phobia', but it's one of those quirky little ways that is a borderline phobia.  If i'm reading a book, I can't stop reading it if the number of the page adds up to 13... for example 85, 265.  I get the awful feeling that something awful will happen if I stop reading on that page, it really frightens me  - it's horrid when you are tired and need to stop reading.

So now you all know that im crazy lol

I absolutely cannot stand greasy hands, my own or anyone else's. Only food grease, though...I could care less about car oil or anything like that. I will only eat french fries one at a time, and I have to wipe my hands constantly. The thought of someone eating a big juicy hamburger, and the grease dripping all over their hands, and then trying to touch me...::shudders::

I can normally sort of control my reaction (meaning I won't pass out), but I will break my own legs running away from someone who looks like they might touch my face with greasy hands. I don't know, something about the mental picture of all that grease seeping into my skin...can't even think about it. Hmmm...maybe I should put "hot oil wrestling" as a hard limit.

Rumtiger -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/30/2006 5:57:46 AM)

I too am extremly arachnaphobic, to the point I overreact a bit too much, I once took a Remington 870 to an unlucky tarantula that decided to be on my yard wall. Lord knows whats gonna happen when I go over with all those camel spiders....ughhhh.

smilezz -> RE: Weird Phobias? (4/30/2006 6:00:25 AM)

Naaaa, you're not crazy.  My number has to equal to 4.  If i am on an escalator for instance, i can not get on it until 4 steps pass by.  I never have more than 4 items of food on my plate either.

I also have this thing about counting squares.  I get really weirded out by being around to many circles/round objects.

Ok, i'm a tad O.C.Dish.  *chucklez*

Sharks.  Yes, I know that logic dictates that people have a healthy fear of sharks.  But I will not go into any body of water that I cannot see the bottom of... be it ocean, sea, lake, pond, river, creek or stream (or a swiiming pool if it is cloudy... but then who would get into a swimming pool when the water is cloudy... yuck).  As far as I am concerned there is shark in there waiting for Me.  It does no good to tell Me that sharks are salt water animals... I know that a bull shark can survive in fresh water for several days.  I have never seen the movie Jaws or any other shark related movie, so I have no idea where this phobia comes from.  What I can tell you that if I ever saw a shark near Me in the water, everyone around Me would witness the second coming of Christ since I would be running across the top of the water to get to dry land.

They have those Nicaragua where my Nana [grandma] is from. Only place in the world that has freshwater sharks in the rivers and lakes and such.

...lotta mangos though.
