Anyone have any weird things that strike fear in their hearts or just plain squick them out? Well I'm not too fond of insects, but that's about it. - R

WEG Strangely, on TV they don't bother me. I can look at pictures of them, I can think about them, I can watch them eating brains on TV, anything.... but in real life I can't be far enough from them. I used to be deathly afraid of all spiders, even the little tiny ones that you can hardly see. If I spotted one anywhere in a room, I'd be almost paralyzed, thinking it might jump on me, burrow into my skin and lay eggs or something. Along with that, the idea of walking through a spiderweb, even a small, fine one absolutely freaked me out. I was like that well into adulthood. I overcame the phobia by (unwillingly) sharing a cabin in northern Michigan for a couple years with a population of wolf spiders. Scary motherfuckers, they are!!! Big as tarantulas, with those scary compound eyes right up front...fangs...arggh...shivers. Anyway, I am still pretty scared of those suckers, and I have a healthy aversion to black widows and brown recluse spiders, but all the rest don't even phase me anymore. I'm glad of that. The web phobia I got over as a simple matter of pragmatism. My job often requires me to hike through all kinds of vegetation, usually while trying to maintain a pretty straight path. As a result, I have had to walk through many thousands of webs. It creeped me out for awhile, but I guess since I never had eggs laid in my brain I eventually stopped being afraid. Oh yeah...I am really put off by zombies. I mean, one zombie...no problem. But there's never just one zombie, right? They tend to circulate in packs...gaggles...whatever...so while you're beating the shit out of one, the others are coming up on you, chewing on your neck and all that. Bob
