I got the Dominant's handbook..... leather bound edition

Yes...but do you possess the special decoder ring?? If you have the chair, that might be enough. Maybe.

salemartist -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (12/30/2010 3:44:01 PM)

Ypu know about the ring? Now you must kneel before me while I sit in my throne and kiss my ring... kiss it now!

osf -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (12/30/2010 4:15:48 PM)

make her kiss it blindfolded so she can't see the code

and be creative on where you wear the ring

salemartist -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (12/31/2010 5:46:03 AM)

thats a differnt type of ring all together....

Buzzzz -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 5:40:59 AM)

You gotta have the Dom 101 buuk and aring on each finger and sit in the chair at the same time.. Or maybe you don't need any of it at all .. Apparently , some are born that way ;) I guess social interaction and learning from others doesn't count whatsoever .

osf -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 7:30:24 AM)

a dom intuitively understands his prey and with a few failed relationships under his belt gains better understanding

social interaction can help with technique

but mostly it's ojt

LillyBoPeep -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 7:42:19 AM)

what makes a Dom will be different for everyone probably -- well there might be a few core similarities but one person's ideal Dom won't be the same as someone else's.

that said -- (i have to agree, a gnarly chair is totally a turn on hehehe)
@osf -- your ducky avatar is so cute, i can't stand it. haha

ANYWAY, to me, a good Dom is someone who has --

  • leadership skills
  • self-control
  • plans or goals for the future -- not necessarily even long-term, but some kind of direction or idea for his life
  • "something inspiring" about him -- that's such a subjective criteria but really; a lot of my submission comes from "something about this person makes it right"
  • self-awareness
  • self-confidence
  • a sense of accountability
  • honesty
"Mastering his own life" is one that i think about, but that one is also subjective -- what do you consider "mastering his own life"? what are the signs that he's done this? sometimes you meet people at turning points who may have some left-over stuff from their previous existence, but are running full-speed towards their own realization and honesty -- i would rather look at where he's GOING, than where he's COME FROM. Dominants are humans, too, and any human over one day old has made at least a few mistakes.

but of course there are the mistakes you can live with, and those you can't.

anyway, good topic! :) maybe i'll do a journal on it.

the ducky avatar grew up to be my Domme, Miss Cillie Goos and she still demands grapes

ahhhhh cute ^_^ yay for geese!

Themasterofo1 -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 8:45:01 AM)

my opinion and please don't take this the wrong way

A Dom should be just like a dog trainer, take cesar milan for example, cool, calm collected, able to set boundaries, able to teach and lead, able to communicate what he wants via looks and body language.

CerVeza -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 8:47:08 AM)

I am a Dom because I bought My Dom certificate online and have it hanging on the wall.

subangi -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 10:00:02 AM)

salemartist,  you are constantly making me laugh! How witty and humorous.

A Dom to me is someone with great self esteem, and tends to attract people who feel a need or a type of helpless excitement?  to gain attention or acknowledgement from him/her.  I think of the "vanilla" guys who many label as dominant....Capt Von Trap, John Wayne, Elvis. They were actors, but, I know a few men in real life that are that way, and it seems like any gender, or age reacts to them in a similar manner.  The other night I watched "Gidget goes to Hawaii" and realized why I had an attraction to Moondoggie as a child...what a Dom! but....sorry to say salemartist...no leather.

osf -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 10:33:30 AM)

I'm a dom because when I joined collar me they were out of subby accounts

salemartist -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 12:48:36 PM)

Thanks Subangi!
I will send you a bill, but dont worry you can write the whole thing off as entertainment expenses.

I think laughter is key in any relationship, vanilla or D/s if you cant make the other one smile its not worth doing. life is too short.

Oddly enough nobody points out that they wish their Dom to be silly or goofy. Maybe someday I will find my muse....

LillyBoPeep -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 1:04:59 PM)

good point salemartist -- sense of humor is really important. that's one i always forget, too. haha

osf -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 1:29:33 PM)

it's hard to have a sense of humor when your Domme is a goose

salemartist -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 5:21:01 PM)

if you see my little red rooster please drive him home, aint had no peace in the barnyard since my little red rooster been gone.

osf -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 5:26:12 PM)

salemartist -> RE: What makes a Dom a Dom? (1/1/2011 5:45:46 PM)
