My best answer? Care more about both your relationship with him and him than you do about yourself. Expect him to do the same in reverse. That's the best you can do generically. Beyond that, you'll need to ask him.

I could answer the training question, but it would be pointless. What I think of as "training" and what your master does are almost certainly vastly different. That's why you need to talk to him.
