Way to go GOP! And special thanks to Mitch McConnell!

Even sadder, later on in the show, Mike Hukabee stating the bill should stand alone, which it does. Dont people think before speaking anymore?

That was very good RO, a truth perhaps and a truth based upon how well you are trained or not.

The Status Quo must be maintained at all costs as can you imagine the alternative

And are we ready for that alternative,

coz if we are not, we are in very real danger of creating that which we wish to be rid of.

Firm, it was emotions that gave the GOP back the House.

Yeah, anger...Anger at what Reid and Pelosi were doing to this country.

The state of New York is already covering these people, and they also have the option of workman's comp claims.

Really? Reid and Pelosi were 'calling the shots' of the House back in 2000?

Good for New York! What about the other 49 states? Since '9/11' was most often used by the GOP to justify everything from an unjustifiable war to an unconstitutional law. The moment, we, Americana, devote money to the actual responders, all the Republicans not only disappear, but attack the measure as if they were never part of the crowd that 'milked 9/11 for every drop'. And where are all the conservatives, who were once ranting and raving for '9/11' this and '9/11' that? Oh, now against those first responders.

Yes, conservatives are selfish to the N'th degree.

And it will be those same emotions that take it back from the Republicans who had their hands out for earmarks and playing politics as usual.

You didnt watch that clip, did you. Obviously not if you are claiming they can get workman's comp for their illnesses.

Perhaps, tazzy.  But I don't understand the point here.  Is the point that Mitch McConnell is somehow to blame for their problems, or that a bill in the Senate that might have helped them didn't get passed?

What bill, and what else was in it?  Who are the "9/11 responders" and what is their history?

Just not enough info for me to make any real judgments.

This is a battle that has been going on for over 8 years and you dont have enough info?

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2010/12/14/911-responders-bill-defeated-by-senate-gop-filibuster/

Its a stand alone bill. Nothing else attached, amazingly enough.

Im done doing homework for people. As much as you seem to get involved in the twisted world of politics, i cannot believe you have no knowledge about this issue.

Now that tax cut extensions are done if a stand alone bill is reintroduced there will be an up or down vote. Wanna bet on the outcome?

Unlike some, tazzy, I don't claim be the Omniscient One.

Thanks for the link, but I still haven't seen an analysis of the bill, other than emotional positions.  The article you quoted said:

Republicans complained that the $7.4 billion price tag was too high, while Democrats said the government had an obligation to help the first responders to the deadliest terrorism attack in U.S. history.

I guess my first thought was: "What! 7.4 billion!  How many people are we talking about?"  Let's say it's 5,000.  That is about 1.5 million per person.  How many actually have problems?  Even if it's half, we are talking about devoting $3 million dollars per person.  But even 2,500 sounds a little large.  What if it's only 1,000?  That's $7.4 million per person.

That sound about right to you? Seems a little excessive to me.

Where is all that money going?

There was another thread where you brought this up and I gave you the full text of the legislation.

I can never understand how people can post on a subject without at least trying to find some information about it.

The bill provides only for health costs in excess of what coverage already exists.

I suggest you read it before you comment further.

H.R. 847: James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010

(1) IN GENERAL- Subject to paragraph (2), payment for treatment under parts 1 and 2 of this subtitle of a WTC-related health condition of an individual that is work-related shall be reduced or recouped to the extent that the WTC Program Administrator determines that payment has been made, or can reasonably be expected to be made, under a workers’ compensation law or plan of the United States, a State, or a locality, or other work-related injury or illness benefit plan of the employer of such individual, for such treatment.

Let me throw in some first hand experience. My sister was an EMT in Brooklyn when 9/11 occurred. She worked at Ground Zero for several days afterward. She's developed a respiratory illness where she can't be near a wide variety of common organic compounds such as aldehydes. In practice, she has severe respiratory distress when exposed to things ranging from diesel exhaust to perfume. She hasn't worked since 9/11 effectively because office environments make her ill. She can't go near patients if they are potentially wearing perfume or have been exposed to solvents.

How much as the state of NY paid? Well, they've paid for her visits to the ER when she has respiratory distress- but that's it. They've denied her workman's comp claims. My family has been supporting her since then.

She has been part of a settlement for 9/11 workers thats still working its way through the courts- but AFAIK- hasn't gotten one dime to date.

So my attitude is pretty much in line with Tazzy- I'm furious. Wonder why?

Sam

Instead of all your speculation why don't you just get your little fingers tapping and look it up.

It's not hard to find.

And it will save us your "aw shucks ma, that sure seems like a gosh awful amount of money" show.

In fact, I just gave it to Rob.   Although I suspect you already know the answers to your questions but can't defend the GOP blocking this so you are playing your usual games.

*shrugs*

I didn't start the thread, and I've not been following it.

Unlike some, I don't pretend to be an expert on everything whenever I make a comment, and ask for information.

You (and tazzy, apparently) are assuming things about me that aren't in evidence.

If we "all know" about something already, what's the frigging point of posting about it?  Is this "trolling", like flcouple wants to claim?  Or you just want sympathy and an "amen" corner?

Sorry, but if you want to convince me, give me hard data, real reasons, and analysis and a logical presentation.  Not emotional garbage and anecdotal "evidence".

Reading the bill itself is ok, and a step in the right direction, but the impact is the question.

Firm

I am still wondering why the Dems did not pass this law while they held both houses (the senate with a filibuster proof majority), and the presidency.

Seriously why didn't they pass this bill years ago, if they care so much about it?

Why wait till now to make a big deal?

Any reason other than Politics?

Tazz?
RML?
Sambo?

Good question, and I'll doubt you'll get a straight answer.

Perhaps so that when they left power, they can claim it's all "the Reputhughicans" fault.?

Umm- perhaps you didn't see this link?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/09/senate.9.11.responders/

Passed the house, defeated because the Republicans filibustered. A majority does not prevent a filibuster. Or maybe they should have seen Ted Kennedy dying? No wonder the country's in the crapper....what should be a simple matter of responsibility turns into partisanship..
