I feel that it's respect and love. I also feel that those who trample (metaphorically speaking) on their slaves/subs and completely disregarding their safety those types of Doms in my opinion aren't even worthy of being called human.

i think it's different for everyone. One i'm speaking to right now keeps telling me he's new and wants to learn...i don't think i would have known hadn't he told me. He's got it all, and he's humble. i think, he is already a great Dom and i am excited to see how much better he gets as he learns more about it.

Competence is enormously important. If you want the right to make the decisions, then you must demonstrate competent decision making. If you have a history of screwing up, then no one with any sense would allow you to screw up their life also.

I feel that it's respect and love. I also feel that those who trample (metaphorically speaking) on their partners and completely disregarding their safety those types of people in my opinion aren't even worthy of being called human.

What you described has nothing to do with being a good dominant, but everything to do with being an alright human being.

Ditto. I'll add that love doesn't have to have a jot to do with it. Being an *alright human being* rates pretty highly.
