Toppingfrmbottom -> Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/23/2010 9:07:45 PM)

Ginger has 2 small lumps in her breast/nipple region, I wasn't worried, with her having cancer, it's to be expected, but what does worry me, is the huge awful red and yello bruising and discolortion all over her skin by her nipples and vagina. I will call the vet an ask IF they are open tomorow(24) but I am horrified an worried tonight. Our poor baby also does not seem able to get on the bed or in low car any more w/o help either:(

I don't know about the bruising, check online on a vet site, I'm sure you can google it.

The reason her mobility is lessening is probably because she's getting worse, and it may hurt her to try to climb things now.

Soul the 24 hour place said that to their knowledge no, her meds would not cause bruising an we should bring her in right away but we don't have the money to take her to the ER. I will see if the reg is open tomorow or if any one is n see what I can do, which is prolly nothing.

it sounds like internal bleeding and it's spreading. i don't think there is much you will be able to do. i'll keep you all in my prayers tonight.

Call the emergency place back right now. Ask them if they will accept payments. She needs to go now.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 3:17:11 AM)

Go to the vet ASAP, the poor thing seems to be in pain, I don't know if vets offer a payment plan but it doesn't harm to ask, Ginger can't ask herself for help, you're the owner and have that responsibility. The longer you wait the worse it might get.

DamnPickyDomme -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 10:12:07 AM)

i hope you were able to take Ginger in, what did the vet say? i hope she's ok.

soul2share -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 10:29:47 AM)

Any brusing is caused by blood pooling under the skin.....she needs to be at the vet's now....and it's about time for you to make a decision, pain and possible internal bleeding versus your desire to let her continue suffering.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 11:46:34 AM)

Soul, it's never my desire to make her suffer, you make it sound like I enjoy this predicament. I CAN'T afford to take her,  when I say I can't, it's not like I can't because I can't get her there, or I can't because someone said not to take her, or some other piddly excuse people usually mean when they say " I can't"  I can't because there's litterally no money to go, the last 4 or 5 months my bank account is either empty I can't make payments on any of my bills, and I am so far  in over draft it looks like a lil kid  scribbled on my account with red pen or I had 5 dollars left. Certainly not 130 for an emergency visit. Daddy can't pay to take her either, He's down to nearly nothing to, and we don't qualify for the credit card plan the vet offers, and they don't take payments. You can't get blood out of a turnip, or water from a bone dry well. You know and I know, that with out money, or a credit card, or some form of payment, the Dr's wouldn't see her. What do you think I can do,  I go in and say oh please dr, I know I have no money and I can't possibly pay you, but would you please, please, treat her for free for me , because it's the holidays and we're special, and you should be overjoyed to treat her for absolutely no money, with no idea when you'll get your money?  Yeah right, No money, no credit card no way to pay, no services. They're not a charity, they're not going to treat her for no money. They'd tell me they're sorry my dog is sick, but there's nothing they will do with out money.

So please do not make it sound like I am choosing not to help her. It breaks my heart I can't or he can't pay to have her seen with out begging money from my dad, who has his own bills and woes he has to worry about,  with out bailing his daughter's bf's pet out of a hospital bill jam.

we took her to the vet,  my dad paid for her bill.

and it's good news, the bruising in her tummy isn't serious, he says . He said the swelling from the tumors is  pressing on the skin and blood vessels  making her bruise. He gave us some anti inflamitory cream and said watch her for the discoloration worsening, and other than that she's doing well, the lumps are not getting bigger, her breathing sounds fine, as far as can be expected, the eye redness that so concerned us last time is alot better, and she's eating an drinking, so that's not a concern. It's a huge relief and weight off my heart! We were all pretty afraid it was internal bleeding or some impending sign of death.

You might want to do some research in your area, a friend of mine had a similar problem in another part of the country (she's also in the US) and she found a vet that was recommended on a couple of local pet sites and forums, the vets took care of her pet and she only paid for the medication, also contact a few shelters and such, quite a few of them offer help in cases when you need a vet but can't afford it.

LadyC The only free  or low cost service around here I know of is the SPCA will put your animal to sleep for free. And they will vaccinate your animal for low cost.

Sacramento , every vet out here is horribly expensive, some more than others.. I'll have to see if there is anything super low cost around here, but I have never heard of anything, and I've lived here my whole adult life,,  and had a few occasions where someone else had to pay the bill or there would be no medical care for my animal. Mostly when my cockerspaniel was sick, and they kept saying well you should have an x ray for this an the x ray showed this,s o you'll need that, and that test show'd this so you're going to need a specialist, and on and on till  eventually I refused more tests, and then more became nessisary, and the one last  test showed he had a auto immune disease and his organs were going into failure, and he was dying. All that time I  mentioned I had no way of payiong, we're a low income family, and nobody not once mentioned any programs or help, they just said we offer a credit card you wanna sign up, and I tried and I was rejected. They charged me a wopping 700 dollars or so for the tests and a 260 dollar fee for having my animal put to sleep. Come to find out,  because someone on fetlife mentioned it this year cause they heard Ginger had cancer and will eventually be put to sleep once she gets to sick to be happy, the SPCA would of done it for free, but I wasn't told, and it never occured to me to ask.

You should not take on the responsibility of a pet if you can't afford to care for it properly.  Low income family or not, it is inappropriate to make a pet suffer because of your selfishness.

Sometimes we do take strays in and we struggle to care for them if they get sick, I did it a few times as a student, what's better? Having the animal in a shelter where it might be put down if nobody takes it or giving it as much of a happy life as you can?

As for Topping, check around, you might be surprised how many ways there are, and if it comes to Ginger suffering or being put to sleep peacefully, you are the one who has to deal with the loss of her, but I still believe it is kinder to let an animal go without pain than keeping it around in pain because we can't bear to part with it...

KatyLied -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 2:05:46 PM)

I don't think a sick and suffering animal without the opportunity for vet care has much of a happy life, I could be wrong.  I can't stand it when people take on pets and then do not care for them properly.

I agree, but as a student I found neglected and starving cats and took them in, because I thought they would be better off in a warm place with food, the vet bills only hit when they came and trust me, working an extra shift and going without food myself to pay for the bills wasn't what I planned or envisioned when I took a half starved kitten in some fucktard chucked out. But the kitten at least got food, a home, basic vet bills and injections and as much as I could do for it. I dare say it had more opportunities than having been taken to a shelter where it wouldn't have been bottle fed because they didn't have the staff....

I agree that you did the cat a kindness when you took it in and cared for it.  I just think that people need to think through the entire scenario of what can happen when they take on that sort of responsibility.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Can prednisone or flamotadine cause the horrible bruising on her tummy? (12/24/2010 2:32:50 PM)

True, but it is very human to try and do the best for an animal or a person that needs help, hardly anybody forsees problems like tumors or cancer, you are trying to do what is best in the situation and sometimes the situation just gets out of hand. You can be lucky and your cat/dog won't need any medical attention but it can also go horribly wrong. The best b-day pressy I ever got was pet insurance, a friend said "Don't know what else to get you", considering that I spent the equivalent of a car on injuries the pets had (glass splinters in paws of cats and dogs, car injuring cat, dog eating rubber ball by mistake, etc.) it was the most valuable pressy ever...
