Then why not move to CUBA, a workers paradise? I don't get it. Seems like all would be well in Cuba, right? Or China. Or... well now, we're running out of communist states.. .oh wait, the best one for last: NORTH KOREA! yay! workers unite, bla bla bla.

slave4bull -> RE: what those billionaires are spending $$ on (12/24/2010 12:55:40 PM)

I get it, its no hold barred, dog eat dog, survival of the fittest, billionaires who get to buy the politicians who then do what they want, while everyone else works for a shrinking minimum wage, right? Hey, why don't all you geniuses move to...Afghanistan? That's YOUR kind of country, no middle class, a ruling elite, totally corrupt government, religious maniacs dictate everything, you get to beat your women every day and blow each others brains out with your AK you carry around. Get packing, goober!  Take the Alaskan retarded bimbo  with you. And leave this country  to the REAL AMERICANS while we can still fix it

Well, those countries are hardly "communist". All three have currency and a very large ruling class, seems communism only works when your talking bout communes or worker owned co-ops

but we're hardly capitalist either
capitalism only works if you're not too concerned with the well being of children or the elderly, ect
and if you're not that concerned with quality made product(yes, I said it, capitalism creates shooty goods..more profit)

neither work, absolutes have a way of (not)doing that

but this is neither here or there...speaking of which, the politic forum is over there

Real Americans to fix it?  Is this how you fix it by whining cause 1% of millions of people are spending money in a way to don't like, and those people they are speaking about not ALL of them are Americans.  Believe me, you don't want the upper wealthy of this country leaving.  Oh wait, many already are and well you are bitching because the money isn't getting spent in the US so jobs can be created.  Sorry but billionaires are NOT the people who will fix the job issue in this country, the PEOPLE are -- ALL of them.   Instead of sitting back saying okay you rich people quit spending your money on things i think you shouldn't and support me, you start this FIX you think REAL AMERICANS will do once the wealthy are gone.  What's stopping you?  oh are you saying you can't?  You are soo oppressed and have nothing and can't do anything etc.  Poor helpless you.  Let's just whine about how people are spending their OWN money.  Perhaps we should look at YOUR funds and determine if YOU are spending frivilously, i mean after all what is good for the goose...

Its called a level playing field, toots. A sytsem that GIVES, yes GIVES a 100 billion dollar tax break to oil companies like Exxon/Mobil so that the retiring president can get a 250 million dollar retirement package is NOT a level playing field. I really can't help it if you simple minded cretins know nothing about our history, UNIONS built this country, as well as a graduated tax system, meaning, in the probable event that you are too dumb to understand what that means, the more money you make the HIGHER your taxes. No-one would deny that we made great products in 1958. The economy was booming then, in fact. If you make a million dollars a year, do you know what you were taxed at? 85%. And that's the time that all you blubbering tea party stooges say you want to go back to! What your hero's in congress were squealing about recently was...the horror of putting the wealthiest 2% of the country from  a 35% tax rate back to 38%, where it was during the CLINTON boom years of the 90's. All the while blabbering "it will create jobs". Right!!! For artists and truffle farmers.  The modern republican party is an unholy alliance of the extremely wealthy, and simple minded idiots with a 15 min attention span believing everything Glenn Beck and Fox propaganda pour down their throats.  Get your nose out of the internet for 5 min and read a fucking history book...assuming you can read, that is

barelynangel -> RE: what those billionaires are spending $$ on (12/24/2010 6:46:56 PM)

grins, did i hit a nerve?
\
ummm well gee, so YOU think you should have as much money as i have or other people have?  Seriously?  Let's just GIVE YOU money so you can stop whining.   Well gee, what are YOU planning to do with it, how much money do you spend now on frivilous things?  You are on the internet, if you have that much money problems why are you wasting 20ish bucks or more a month on something like the internet.  That is a luxury as well as cell phones and cable nowadays, so while you keep whining because some billionaires are spending money you think YOU should have, look at how you spend your own money.

Unions are a piece of shit.  I know, i watched for 5 years while they gave sob stories to non-union employees claiminmg they will get them so much more and then they didn't.  Within 3 years they were gone.  Unions ONCE were a valued commodity for people but not anymore.  Now they take money.  Have you checked out the Department of Labor and the annual reports unions file?  See how much THEIR heads are making -- yeah THESE PEOPLE ARE PART OF THE MILLIONAIRES YOU ARE BITCHING ABOUT!!!!!!  That is too funny, i love when someone who is ignorant about the actuality where the union money goes bitches at about how they don't get a cut of the wealhies money.  Maybe you should start sticking your hand out to the heads of all these unions "toots" because they seem to be getting paid REALLY WELL and are not really doing shit in the country anymore because they don't have any power too.  They mainly allow deadbeats to remain employed, they take away individuality and individual merit of employees to make everyone the same which means that that group of people CAN ONLY BE as good as their weakest link.  Is that how you enjoy being acknowledged as?  Only as good as the worst person in your group?  Why is this ALL you can hope for?  Because a company, once a union contract that doesn't allow merit increases is signed a company isn't LEGALLY ALLOWED to recognize individuals.

Maybe instead of stamping your foot thinking YOU ARE ENTITLED to the wealth of others, maybe you should get out of the union mentality and start doing stuff for yourself instead of stamping your foot saying i wanna buy pretty baubles also.  You're jealous, plan and simple.

Does there need to be change -- sure but it sure the heck isn't going to be accomplished by mine and others people's money going to the likes of you.

You know if you wanted to make this a political thread you should have put it there.  You came into this thread bitching and whining because a couple billionaires all over the world were buying things from all over the world.  Do you really think that taking a percentage of taxes would have stopped BILLIONAIRES from purchasing this stuff?  Do you remotely have an inkling what amount of money a BILLION is much less MORE than that? Hell these people were spending a couple were millions, that's like you and i buying a $5000 TV.  Seriously chick, put it in proportion and quit feeling sorry for yourself and if you are that desperate for change DO SOMETHING other than whining about what billionaires are spending their money on.

The only way there will be change in this country is if 1) people stop feeling like they are OWED something by the wealthy because they aren't, 2) people stop feeling sorry for themselves and start getting some gumption and deciding what it is they really WANT, 3) people start once they realize what it is they really want, they make the plans and get the people who can put them into execution INTO OFFICE.  No one is going to HAND you anything and even if they take the billionaires as you demand, its NOT GOING TO HELP ANY if the PEOPLE don't start voting in people who will work to do what this country needs.

You can continue to place blame -- but until action occurs, all you will be is a whiner.   You don't have to like the wealthy but the wealthy aren't going away and you better damn well hope they don't.

Now "toots"  quit crying because some wealthy people bought frivilous stuff and maybe look at your own spending.  That is all this OP is about.  When your spending holds nothing frivilous or for luxury, THEN you may be able to snif about others doing so.  But somehow i think you do buy things for luxury and frivilous, so why aren't you offering to give that money to the government instead?  Oh because you think you are entitled to these luxuries and frivilous items and wealthy people aren't?  Wealthy people should somehow be MORE generous and say here government give my money to those people and let THEM buy frivilous stuff and luxuries.

Sorry but i don't see why they should have too, if you aren't willing to forgo your luxuries and frivilousness, why should they ---- ohhh because they are rich and you aren't.

You know if I have a billion dollars, I'd buy a lot of luxury items too. I go on vacation, I stay in a hotel that employs workers. I buy a fancy car, somebody gets paid to make it. I buy a diamond ring, somebody gets paid to make it. In fact, a more luxurious purchase frequently means that more people are paid for carefully hand-crafted work. That's a plus in my book.

Maybe trying bitching about keeping that sort of product alive in the US so that the money is spent here. Unless they think they are going to make money, they aren't going to open up a business and they shouldn't. So look for a real solution instead of expecting hand-outs from people who don't think they can turn a profit.

It's not a question of turning a profit. They can do that. Offshoring is all about maximizing profit. The notion that the sole function of a corporation is to maximize the return on investment for shareholders has become so ingrained that many people believe that it is against the law for a corporation NOT to do so.

BTW, rock on, slave4bull.

As it happens, the linked article says...

This wasn't Ho's first time spending six figures on inedible mushrooms. November's $330,000 purchase matches the Hong Kong-based developer's own 2007 record for the delicacy, and he's well-known to Bunyard and other truffle specialists as the man to beat at auctions worldwide. The high prices Ho routinely pays for truffles are inflated, as proceeds from these auctions generally benefit charities

Well I mean, it says that assuming you can read, of course. [:D]

Good advice. And giving that some thought -- in the present context, of course -- a nice costume and a boffer maybe?

<snipped tea party Toot's simpleminded rant>

Notice how the loon ignored the FACT that the tax rate for those in the highest tax brackets in 1958 was 85%. See, that's the whole thing with the far right loons...they simply ignore or dismiss FACTS they find inconvenient, and do a combination of frothing at the mouth RANTS, coupled with attacking the messenger, of course. Toots is probably totally unaware that her precious tea party was formed by a couple of billionaire brothers, the exact sort who have benifited enormously from the unelevel playing field that is becomming more and more unequal with every Republician mandated "tax break". !00 billion in tax breaks here, 100 billion in tax breaks there, put together a couple of 100 billion dollar unfunded wars for empire, and pretty soon you are talking real money. So where to get it? I know, lets dismantle the social safety net so that the extremely wealthy who wrote and perpetuate the system that is gamed for them can spend as they see fit. No, I'm not mandating or even suggesting that anyone is not free to buy whatever they want. The POINT of this, that flew over Toot's head was...like EVERYTHING Republicans do, they lie about it. Its not about the JOBS!!! Its all about serving the masters who got them elected do to just that. This country is becoming a 3rd world banana republic, obviously Toots, you are a nice trophy bimbo ( since you enjoy getting so personal and insulting  with your little tea party rant, I'm just returning the favor...Toots), and you get to sit on your lazy little ass and play all day. Now here is the part where you can  tell us all about how you swept the floors at the family business, and rose to become the crybaby head of the Senate...oh wait, that' s not your story, is it? Not to worry, you'll make up a good one for us, I'm sure....ignoring the FACTS like a good little Glenn Beck zombie.  In the meantime, here are some of those FACTS for everyone else.

Have you considered that those yachts are sold in Florida and a lot of them are actually made in Florida. So by giving people tax breaks to purchase them, you are creating jobs for people working on them, then they will need maintenance, staff, all that, it creates jobs...

The company I work for is looking to open a US branch, they will go to Florida due to the tax breaks there, which means they will invest in Florida and not in another state, they'll have an office there and all that, which will be staffed by largely local people. So the tax breaks actually do create jobs. It makes so much more sense than keeping companies away with high taxes.

Ok........how do you explain the fact that the tax rate in the late 50's and early 60's was 85% for the top income brackets? And that all of this posturing and squalling is about putting the Tax rate back to 38% for that bracket, that's what it was during the Clinton boom years of the 90's. Were there no Yacht sales then? Living in S Florida for most of my life and in the Ft Lauderdale area during that exact time, I can tell you there were no shortage of Yacht sales. Here is what is happening right now: A very, very small handful of Wall Street bankers and investors basically brought the entire financial world down around us all. WE..and that is all of us...bailed them out. With borrowed money. We borrowed money to bail out billionaires, it really is that simple. Now...they have sold this bill of good that...if only they get just a little more of a tax break..if we give them just a bit more at the expense of the other 98%...they will make it ALLLL better for everyone again. Fox news and the extremely wealthy talk show mouthpieces of the far right have done a great job selling this to the masses. So here we are, having a discussion about 3% points for the top 2%, that did not exist before 2000. Remarkable.  By the way Lady C, notice how I HAVE NOT name called you here.  I am very capable of conducting a civil conversation. I treat everyone the way they treat me, its not anymore complicated than that.

Why move to Cuba when we have communism here, it being an economic system. Communism is collectivization by the state. The state forced us the community to communally and collectively bailout the wall street scum and now that they are and just could not suffer even a 3 or 4% increase in their taxes. Our communism gives...gives $20 billion a year to big agric., $6 billion specifically to ethanol producers protect them wit a tariff. Sounds as if communism is quite profitable here so what's the problem ?

Better yet, we do not ask them to really help pay for war, and in fact see that they are making money on war while the top 1% pay an average of 16.6% tax tab. The only reason they pay as much in taxes that they do...is because they are making so much fucking money.

Sound like a capitalist paradise to me. You know communism for the rich, capitalism for the poor. Merry fuck'n christmas.
