"Term, and I have to breath you know. and when they spew carbon isn't this global warming?" If your lightbulbs are spewing carbon there is something wrong with them. I am an electronics expert and can say that for sure. Kidding aside though, they are either malicious or idiots. Manufacturing CFLs is alot nastier than incandescents, though they do last longer. They produce less heat, wasting less energy. I have just about all CFLs in the house with a few exceptions. One is an IQ bulb, if you can't find info on that lemme know and I'll fill you in. Another was a fixture in the upstairs apt. that was on a light dimmer. It had three 100 W high output incandescents bulbs in it, but the dimmer almost never went higher than halfway, so they lasted a long time despite not being the long life type. A 120 volt bulb fed with only 40 volts does that. What alot of people don't realize though is that a heavily loaded triac based high efficiency dimmer cheats most electrical meters. Specifically the older mechanical type, of which many are still in use. This is not because of the inertia of the armature, but the bearing load. Half wave rectification not only does that, but results in a small, temporary but constant field which increases bearing load. My Uncle and cousin did some experiments on this. All you need is to connect a 400 amp rectifier to the heating coils of an electric furnace. This makes it run longer due to lower output but results in a stronger magnetic "bias". However they didn't cut math and found that the blower motor running longer offsets the savings. I don't know what "they" know, or more specifically what "they" don't know. After the DHMO scam, I tend to think that "they" are not as smart as many think. But it does make it difficult to figure out their true motives. For one I never understood why the electric companies here would sponsor programs to help people save electricity. It is equally puzzling why the gas company would want anyone to insulate their house. But then it's just one of those things that don't seem to make sense. Even money doesn't make it make sense, so the only thing left is stupidity. Stupidity is very hard to predict, therefore backfiguring the motive is also difficult. There are a few things that may never make much sense, one would need to embrace the same perspective as "they" do. Not easy. For example, oil companies seem to have more lobby money than car manufacturers and have for some time. As such, how would you explain CAFE regulations ? "They" being so stupid would not be so bad if "they" weren't so productive. T
