I'm not familiar with this claim. Since Canada's population is roughly 10% of the US population, I'd like to offer you the opportunity to back that up before I declare you full of shit.

I assume that YSG meant "per capita".  But I can't get any sources to agree with his assessment.

Canada has about 11 million guns, estimated: http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/publications/GunsinCanada.htm

The USA has about 250 million guns, about one per American: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/942388/posts

This source puts it at 300 million, again about one apiece: http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp

It looks like the USA has about three times as many guns per capita as Canada.

Those numbers look wrong to me.  Children almost never have guns, and I know a lot of nonowners, myself included.  As a result, I would estimate that, the average gun owner owns three or four guns, since so many do not own.

Three or four guns per owner?  Sounds way high...

A rifle is not a hand gun.  They are 2 different thing.

Not "way" high. Two or three is probably typical. If you carry, a weapon that you can easily conceal in colder weather, or when you're wearing a jacket, is not going to hide well when you're dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. So there's two right there.

I have 4 myself.  One rifle, one shotgun, and two handguns.  Most of the gun owners I know own more than I do.

This is proof that you have killed hundreds of people- if not thousands.

...............I can understand it is a tool but given the amount of accidents, the Columbine incident, etc. I would think it would make sense to raise the bar a bit higher and have stricter laws about who can have them and maybe include licenses like driving licenses. I'm aware that wouldn't take care of everything because even with a driving license you can cause accidents, but if people would be better educated, maybe they wouldn't leave guns about where kids can grab them, and it might cut down on the number of people who have guns but serious anger management issues.

On average, it makes me feel a lot better to know that it isn't very likely that a criminal is carrying a gun, but then we don't have the problem of criminals being already armed to the teeth.

We do need a license to have a gun. It's called a Firearm Owner ID card. I don't know if every state requires one, but Illinois does. When getting the card, one self reports they have no mental defect or felony convictions. It would be nice if that were cross-referenced legally, but to the best of my knowledge, it's not.

I think it would be great if Europe could stay less armed, but criminals will find ways to get them, no matter what passport they carry. Since it doesn't make sense to bring a knife to a gunfight, by refusing to even the odds, that's what a person who chooses not to arm him/herself is doing.

no T, he doesn't. guess there's more than one in the cleveland area, lol. i gave up trying to deal with cleveland and moved out to the sticks. having my home broken into twice while i was recovering from my amputation made me decide i'd had enough. had i had both legs and been able to get upstairs to my bedroom there would have been one dead sob, that's for sure. they came in an upstairs window and i was downstairs recovering in one of the kids' bedrooms. i have no problem with killing someone who enters my home uninvited. they're not there to sell avon, they're there to do harm to me, my kids or my property.

Yep. I have 6 pistols, and 4 long guns. I also have a few that are collectors items that my Dad gave me. My father has at least 20 and I bet I am short changing him on that estimate. He hasn't been robbed either. Got to love those military lifers Popeye. .

My man, jesus I would hate to guess....let'sjust say at least 30.

Ok, well this is from the National Firearms Association, wich, as far as I can tell, is their version of the NRA

http://www.nfa.ca/node/72

Ok, so the highest estimate on Canadian guns, from an organization with an interest in the numbers being high, is 21 million. Way over the official government estimates. The typical number a quick Googling is giving for the United States is 200 million privately owned guns.

I think your theory is shot to shit.

So... we have ten times their population and ten times their guns. Quick, let's invade Canada!

one handgun. 2 long guns.

Both long guns have been used to put food on the table and also (once after hurricane Andrew) to ward off intruders.

Handgun is a .22 for cheap fun target practice

Two handguns here......a third on the way.  First gun, acquired at 13, a 22 rifle.  Outshot the boys in my gun safety class.  Have a CWP and carry a Sig Sauer 225 9MM  when I go out.

I find it funny that everyone talks about America's gun problem, but yet Canada has more guns than we do, and they dont have half the murder rate we do.

Maybe, then, the real problem is that the USA has culture of violence?

Alpha and I own a number of firearms, and have never shot anything but targets so far.  Bambi had better watch out next season, but people have little to fear unless they try to break into the house.  Most of ours are black powder weapons, though - not very threatening, but fun to fire.

Can't post pics apparently, but here's the Mosin Nagant carbine.

We keep the Nagant for home defense as well as hunting.  Is it necessary?  Maybe, maybe not, but I'm not taking the chance.

Right. We do a peaceful annexation. Mexico, we'll probably need to invade.
