pahunkboy -> When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 12:04:18 PM)

The neighbor sent me home a bag of coffee with a scoop-- which I threw in the trash- and now she asks me if I could return it.

-- it will resolve I am sure... but what month did they stop putting scoops in with a bag of coffee?

Well, can you? If not, try e-Bay.

i use a tablespoon scoop. most of my gourmet coffee bags don't include a scoop.

I think that practice stopped about 1980.

Yeah-  I use the gourmet type-  and just use a table spoon.

The ones I buy don't come with them.

Tonight I found the scoop. It fell on the floor and rolled under the cabinet.

So now I will wash it and return it.

TheHeretic -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 5:41:00 PM)

You couldn't have just dug it out of the trash, to wash and return it anyway?

I'm now trying to think how long it has been since I saw a scoop come with a can of coffee. My brand switched from the metal cans to a dumb cardboard thing about 4-5 years ago. These go straight into the landfill, unlike the old cans which have a million and one possible uses when the coffee ran out.

I know the scoops were there when I was a teenager, I don't recall seeing them at all when I switched from a morning Coke to making coffee, in my late 20's.

depends on the type of coffee you buy.

If you buy the kind in the cans then they almost always come with scoops.

If you buy the type in the bags or gourmet coffee then you won't find a scoop.

I never buy the stuff in the cans because I don't use it up fast enough before it starts to go rancid plus I simply don't like canned coffee.

DesFIP -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 6:40:56 PM)

I buy canned ground coffee and it comes without a scoop. I bought a can of beans by mistake once and that came with a scoop. Not having a grinder about, I just used the blender to grind them.

No.  She sent the coffee over a month ago.  That is 4 weeks full of garbage to look thru- much of which is not here anymore.  Not counting if if I may have threw it into recycling mess.

[hijack]Just out of curiosity, how many scoops (tablespoons) do you people use to make coffee? I'm just wondering, cuz I use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to make mine and I'm wondering if maybe my coffee is way stronger than everyone elses....[/hijack]

soul2share -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 8:05:30 PM)

I got my coffee scoops at Dollar tree....it's actually 1/8 of a cup.

Winnie, I use three scoops for 12 cups of coffee.....everyone says I make a great pot of coffee, so I must be diong something right.  It makes a reasonably strong pot....you can't see thru it when it's done.

I'm not a coffee drinker, I prefer tea, but I could sit and sniff coffee all day!  There's a Maxwell house plant here in J'ville, and when they are roasting the beans, you can smell it all over the city!  And you can definitely tell when they are doing the dark roast....too bad you couldn't get caffeine thru the air!

gungadin09 -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 8:22:46 PM)

i use a level teaspoon of grounds per ounce of water, in a French press. (So, roughly 8 tsp per cup water). This makes a very strong coffee, but i add cold water to cool it down to drinkable temperature. So, really, it's about 3/4 tsp per ounce of water.

at work we do 4-5 scoops per 10 cups of coffee.

At home I have a percolator which makes 4 cups of coffee and I use 3-4 scoops. I usually buy Green Mountain Ethiopian Yergachaffe coffee.

I've always wondered this, too, and every time I ask, I never remember the answer.

I use about 1/4 cup for about an 8 cup pot-full.  1/2 cup for a full pot.  That's when it's pre-ground.  But typically I buy whole beans (no scoop) and eyeball them when I put them in the coffee grinder.

I never did know what to do with those scoops, lol.

Thanks! I'm not much of a coffee drinker either...but using your recipe my coffee is probably a shy bit weaker than it should be :)

thanks everyone who answered my question!

ShaharThorne -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/30/2010 10:51:33 PM)

I don't drink coffee, but once in a while, I surprise Bo with a package of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (in beans).  This coffee doesn't make me sick in the mornings (Did I mention that I loathe coffee).

Phoenixpower -> RE: When did coffee scoops go away? (12/31/2010 5:49:32 AM)

I don't drink coffee [:o]
